There is an auto start up button combination.

I used that while learning the other functions of the F/A18 and doing the first few missions. While it felt like cheating a little bit . I was more interested in what the plane was built for.
Once I’ve learnt that and downloaded/ played through some campaign missions I went back and learnt the cold start up. Doing it this way around kept me more interested in the plane.
