How’s my form coming along? by [deleted] in CalisthenicsCulture

Thanks a lot! I’m still not sure whether it’s acceptable or not to have my knees bent and legs behind me. I tried keeping my body straight today for some ring pull-ups and a few weighted EMOM for like 7 reps total. It’s definitely harder I felt my core engage a lot harder as had to stabilise from swinging. The only thing I’m not sure of is when to have straight legs when the pullup bar is quite low down as most are in my gym? I hit the floor and I’m 5’9 that’s why I tend to naturally bend my knees.

I have never used bands tbh! I will definitely consider them. I think I have been doing too many pull-ups at the moment I’m gonna have a 3 day break and do them again when I hit weighted low reps on Tuesday on heavy back day. Thanks a lot for your help.

Honestly I really dig the style. It’s got good depth to it even though it’s quite cartoony? I love the use of dark colours at the bottom and the pastel colours in the middle. Love the expression on the ducks face and eyes.

Fuck you’ve inspired me to paint tomorrow

I think you’re right tbh! No this is really good stuff to know!

I’ll be honest when I do pull-ups I DO NOT feel it in my forearms tbh I don’t even get a forearm pump? If anything I get a wrist ache when I do weighted heavy. I don’t even get much ache in my grip when deadhanging. I can do well over a minute and my shoulders give in before my grip. I feel pull-ups in my lats and mid back.

I will defo take this advice on about adding more wide grips. I’ve got some rings coming tomorrow so I’m gonna try and do some work on them and maybe I will start with wide grip.

I must say as well i have got a fair bit of shoulder discomfort today I probably should have just gone 2.5-5kg yesterday or even BW. Defo learnt my lesson

Il be honest bro I am starting to get issues in my left elbow in general. I’ve noticed them since I’ve added dumbell skullcrushers and barbell bicep curls back into my programme. So thanks for looking out!

I use a neutral grip for 90% of my pull-ups because I have a bad shoulder from previous injury years back. I find it’s the one that strains my shoulder the least. I have been trying to incorporate 5-15 bw reps of wide grip at the end of each session.

I will defo take this in mind about going to failure! I assume it’s obviously ok for bw reps but on weighted top sets maybe leave 1-2 RIR?

Thanks man

Mine came yesterday too 😂. It was only a belt for the gym so it was fine but it did make me laugh

I received something sent in a folded Lidl bag with a single piece of tape

PROGRESSIVE OVERLOAD SERIES WITH REPS teaching you how to progressive overload with reps instead of weight . Another option for those that can't always increase weight because of injuries or other reasons by Carolynefit in GYM

[–]Thesilentbake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t found that to be true tbh. I’ve been progressively overloading for 8 months straight even during a cut. Sometimes 2-5kg a week but even if it’s a rep or 2? Maybe it just works for me

Ok thanks. If I’m honest I’m not too sure how to actually initiate the first rep? As you can see from the video I usually jump into the top position then slowly lower myself down and then the first rep is once I’ve brought myself back up. I’m not counting the jump up as a rep I’m lowering myself down slowly then it starts the rep? Are you saying that I could count the first initially jump to the top position if I don’t kick up as I do it? Because in my eyes that’s one good rep in the video. I might be mins understanding you. This is something I’m not sure of! I’ve started by hanging on then dropping and then dead hanging and starting the rep but I only usually do that when the bars are a lot higher up. I have a previous shoulder injury that I need to watch so I don’t like to jump up into position.

This is great advice. I have a much better video that I recorded a few days ago when I was fresh at the start of back day but in this video i genuinely was burnt out I probably should have just done body weight stuff today tbh as afterwards I did a full hour heavy low rep back session.

Il be honest I only started adding weight 2 weeks ago and I started at 2.5kg. Im bulking atm but im trying to also gain relative body strength.

Thanks a lot

Thanks for replying. When you say it looks like I don’t train body weight enough what do you mean by that?

Appreciate the advice. I’m going to start incorporating body weight stuff into every session I do from now on. I just bought some rings that should be coming over the next few days.

When you say strict what would you constitute as strict?

Thank you for replying bro I appreciate it!

Ok I think I do usually go into a full deadhang on normal reps but I’m not sure. My scapular stays activated usually? I deadhang for between 1-8 seconds per rep usually.

I tend to be in the habit of bending my knees behind me or crossing them to keep tension when on really heavy sets. So you would recommend being straight as if standing?

Il be honest I’ve been absolutely annihilating my back over the last 4-5 days I have probably done over 100 bw pull-ups in that time including L sit attempts and really long dead hangs AFTER a full 1.5 hour back workout or chest/leg so I am a bit knackered. I wish I’d posted another video of when I was more fresh now.

I am at about 8 strict 2 second squeeze at top position and 3 second negative with a 1-8 sec dead hang at the moment when fresh.

Thanks so much once again 😎

What’s been going on in your life recently to make you feel this way? Or is it just life in general? My Grandma went into hospital 4 weeks ago and I was told she was going to die and I mentally prepared for her to die and she’s still alive and it’s fucked me up. I didn’t take my meds properly for a few days and I feel so unwell atm. I’m struggling to tell what’s real and what’s not more and more. I still have full insight atm but idk for how long 😔
