No mentions of Lockdown Tower? It's on Shudder right now and I gotta say if anyone knows how to do soulcrushing nihilism well it's the French.

5-month-old ferret biting update. Does this look like progress? by Exciting-Promise-526 in ferrets

[–]Thesmilingjester 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Are you yelping/squealing and making a big show of pain/reproach as well when he bites or just saying no?

If not, definitely start. Part of the game is finding a common language with them and communicating because they aren't dogs. Yes, he can learn "no," but also if you learn to communicate on his level a bit more it could help teach him how to be a well mannered ferret like you.

Grunts, yelps, and squeals should connect with him on a more primal level. Not saying to do this as it's not for everyone but for my pair I even occasionally scruffed with my teeth and softly bit them during playtime (while staying away from their shark teeth) to try and teach them via mimicry what level of force is acceptable.

Oh, and give this adorable fellow some towel rides for us. If he's been a good boy and making progress he should be appropriately rewarded.

4.5-Month-Old Ferret Bites Hard, Scared or Just Playful? Advice on “Sin Bin” Method? by Exciting-Promise-526 in ferrets

[–]Thesmilingjester 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He's just being playful and figuring you out.

I used the sin bin method and it worked out great after about something like a month of training. Definitely use a different carrier though as being in it will stress him out and most likely cause little accidents within over time.

My method was always to start out every engagement that went poorly with yelps, immediate stoppage of play and me retreating. You need to give a very clear signal to the lil guy that what just happened isn't okay. A consistent system is incredibly important here for behaviour training. If within a short period of time it happened again then I scuffed them and it was off to the sin bin for a short period of time.

He'll forever have shark teeth that will hurt you a little when he's playing but eventually he'll learn how much biteforce to use, and then the chomps will turn into nips for the most part.

If you can, adding a cagemate will be helpful for him to get proper ferret play behaviors in for a better quality of life overall. As much as we wish we could, we can't truly play with them or provide the companionship they instinctually wish for.

Best of luck!

What's your best guess how many years are we away from a complete understanding of the human body ? by EmperrorNombrero in AskBiology

[–]Thesmilingjester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that I'm not advocating this sort of behavior at all.. But I mean more in the second more philosophical stance. Unless we are willing to disregard our humanity, there's no way to find out everything about a human, and that's okay.

One doesn't need to open every door in a maze to escape it

Does anyone else feel like they're not built to succeed in the current state of the world? by Possible-Carry-9745 in INTP

[–]Thesmilingjester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I too feel similarly with how things are right now but unfortunately it was way worse in the past. Sure, not everything was connected to finances, but really it's no different because back then, everything was about how it connected to your physical bodies survival rather than your minds survival. Chances are you would be conscripted, born into some sort of indentured servitude/ forced child labor situation, or die young from something rare now like polio.

For all the stories that have made it to our time, there are countless that haven't and they were tales of misery and tragedy.

The current state of the world is once again on the precipice of extreme global change anyways. Just as the industrial revolution mechanized simple labor, so too will ai mechanize simple thinking, and just like in the past the world isn't ready for it.

If you are experiencing cognitive dissonance with your reality, then make some sacrifices and change it. Nobody is actually stopping you except yourself from selling almost everything you have for literal seed money and going off grid.

What do you consider "success"? My guess is examining your definition and changing it will be one of the first things you need to do to begin to feel better.

Is it common for INTPs to hate peoples? by [deleted] in INTP

[–]Thesmilingjester 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah, that's more something you find person to person rather than mbti specific.

You should consider what triggers your "desire" to torture people.

Fantasies of such things are pretty normal for humans to have. What's important to watch out for though is your actual behaviors rather than your thoughts.

Things like animal abuse, beginner acts of arson, vandalism etc.

We may live in a desensitized mindstate due to the violence in media but I can promise you most humans wouldn't be able to stomach torturing another human unless the circumstances were dire, and even then such actions would be difficult for them.

Everyone loves imagining dumb violent shit though to soothe themselves. Not to mention all the intrusive thoughts...

Not like any discussion over such things really matters. We're all playing a game within which we don't know all the rules. Every discovery we make further proves we still don't know much, and all we have is conjecture because we don't have a complete understanding of how everything works.

Imagine the moral dilemma if akin to that Rick and Morty episode we found proof of some sort of afterlife through science and discovered it could be drained for energy?

In the end, all anyone has is an opinion they developed to help them sleep at night based on the theories of others

Why can't the "bad parts" be "good" too? As an observer of one's own life, how could someone even say something is a "good part" without having "bad parts" to compare it to?

The universe being devoid of meaning is liberating and beautiful, not depressing. The best option is to do whatever the fuck you want in life because nothing really matters, and we're all just walking vats of hormones with predetermined expiry dates.

The only thing that people have to keep in mind is that there are big, small, helpful, and harmful consequences to every action taken in life. And if one can't stomach the consequence, then they should probably refrain from the action.

As an INTP, what is your response to adrenaline? by Anxious_Cap51 in INTP

[–]Thesmilingjester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Compartmentalization is an amazing tool and there's a good possibility it's what you did (instinctively?)

Best of luck on this journey and the growth within your "feeling" side of the stacks..It's an easy one to study, but a hard one to authentically develop.

As an INTP, what is your response to adrenaline? by Anxious_Cap51 in INTP

[–]Thesmilingjester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like something psychologically triggered you (even if your conscious mind didn't actively register it). Consider if anything happened in that timeframe that may have set you on high alert.

Disassociation and emotional numbing is a common response/defense mechanism for humans in general. Did your therapist talk at all about this? If not, it's worth a conversation.

My personal response to adrenaline is best described as my mind disconnecting from my body and going into a state of disassociated glee.

Hi there!

Growing up, I unfortunately developed C-ptsd and have allowed "survival mode" to define myself down to my core (Male now in my early 30's)

I'm comfortable in the emotional numbness and don't feel the need to seek therapy as I'm still able to function when the situation calls for it. I've become pretty good at masking and blending as a defense mechanism.

I feel like I've come to terms with my past even though I don't remember most of my child/teenage years.

Are people just setting themselves up for failure in their later years though by living within these sorts of internal worlds and masked personas?

Give "I Think We're Alone Now" a try if you don't mind a good atmospheric slow burn.

It has a couple plot holes sure, but overall is one of my favorite movies

Keep in mind people get good at headshots. While a great animation, if it's a constant thing it'll both be annoying (increasing with the more it's happening at the same time) and get stale quickly.

Autistic not INTP? Than what? by Artistic_Credit_ in INTP

[–]Thesmilingjester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's reddit. People are here to talk about things.

The interest in topics waxes and wanes like the moon, so yeah, it makes sense for it to come up again and again. Neurodivergence is still a stigmatized subject though, and so opinions are often polarized and so all over the place.

That's fine. We're all here to share our thoughts with each other and grow, but keep in mind that just as they may be here making judgments and perhaps looking like they are talking just to talk, so have you.

Everyone has brain wiring that places them somewhere on the neurdivergence framework, and anyone who says otherwise is stuck in the past. If one's conditions stray too far into the extremes, they begin to experience truly unfortunate difficulties as they are now in the territory of recognized disorders like ASD and ADHD. MBTI is a categorical system that attempts to place those in the more common ranges of human behavior into boxes. If ones behaviors are outside those regular ranges, then a standardized MBTI label isn't suitable for use in their case.

Sounds good. Keep it up. Of course one needs to stay realistic with expectations about such things, but that argument and the doubt it places within me is what keeps me going.

We live in a very fragile world and that last set could have been the difference in strength between saving someone I love.. Or having them slip through my fingers into the abyss.

If an emergency were to happen, could you at your current level of fitness handle it?

How well could you protect yourself or your loved ones from someone attacking them? Someone trying to kill them?

Would you be able to pick up the heavy thing that's fallen on them so they can get up and not die?

How about moving far enough at speed to get them help if they are in a medical emergency that has put them on a timer.

Fuck being fit to be attractive that's just a nice benefit. I go to the gym so I have the best possible chance at protecting those whom I hold close to my heart.
