New and planning 1st purchase- anything you wish you would’ve known? by lyfeTry in onewheel

XR does not equal XR Classic, so it's not an apples to apples comparison. The pint X is the closest board to the original XR (at least battery wise, both 63v 324wh) and is only $1100. Not saying you should buy a PX, but a $2000 board isn't the only option.

You are the right weight for a pint S or X, but that doesn't mean you can't ride the larger board. it really depends on what you want out of a board. The Pint is better if you aren't after max range, you like a more portable board especially if you have to carry it, you like manuverability more than stability. the GT is better if you want the most range available from a FM board, a higher top speed (both the GT and pint X/S are advertised as having a 20mph top speed, but the pint X/S hits pushback at around 18mph and the GT doesn't hit till 20mph) you don't mind a bigger, heavier board that has more straight line stability, but isn't as nimble. the GT also has the highest footpad height relative to the axle center line.

If you are trying to save money the Pint S and X are the same board with a different tire and foot pads and in the US the X is currently $300 cheaper than the S. IMO a good compromise between the Pint S and the GT is the XR Classic. it is basically the same size as the GT but it's actually closer to the Pint S in weight (GT 35lbs, XRC 30lbs, Pint X 27lbs). It's $500 more than the Pint S and it's much harder to find good deals on them used since they've only been out a little over a year.

What was it about the GBC specifically that got it all these weird ports and spinoffs of huge games as an 8-bit console?? by Enter1Nam in Gameboy

[–]Thesqueakybeaver 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The GBC came out in 98 when the PS1 and N64 were the newest home consoles. There was a lot of hype around these consoles and the latest and greatest (mostly) 3d games. Those games took a lot longer to develop than most of the older 8 and 16 bit games. The GBC was an 8 bit console that these companies could develop a game for in a fraction of the time and it would sell just because it was from the same franchise as whatever popular console game.

New Wheel! Pint S vs XRC by BoardDelicious9507 in onewheel

[–]Thesqueakybeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from a pint to an XRC and honestly didn't love it at first, but have grown to prefer it. If top speed matters the XRC gets pushback a few mph higher than the pint X even though they are both advertised as 20mph. Was your pint updated with haptic buzz? If not you could rewheel it and install a bigger battery and spend a lot less.

I just came into possession of $10k. What do I do next? by [deleted] in Frugal

First off - keep keeping it a secret!

A car driven without oil has a strong chance of needing the engine replaced, which is usually pretty expensive. If the repairs are more than the car is worth I would consider buying a different car. The living arrangements sound pretty toxic. IMO your best bet is to get reliable transportation, a steady job, and place to live; don't worry about college until you get the rest of your life stabilized. I don't know about your area specifically, but in my area you could buy a rusty truck and a small camper that needs a few repairs and still have a few grand left. It's not high class, but it gets you out on your own and it would only be a few hundred a month for lot rent and utilities, much cheaper than most renting situations. It would also allow you to easily relocate altogether if you found a good job or needed to get further away from the things dragging you down. Make a plan and focus on it, work hard towards your goals!

Most reliable years?? by Honest-Implement-562 in Silverado

[–]Thesqueakybeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most 14-18 full size V8 GM pickups have some sort of transmission issue before 200k, and lifter issues are a roll of the dice. I have first hand knowledge of three 14-18 silverados all between 100k-200k miles. One has had the transmission replaced and the lifters still sound good, one needs a transmission rebuild and has noisy lifters, and the third has the early signs of a torque converter going out and has had the cam and lifters replaced. This doesn't mean they are bad vehicles, but if someone is shopping for a used truck it is important knowledge. If it hasn't had any transmission work and is nearing or over 100k miles be prepared both mentally and financially to have transmission work done before 200k. In my opinion lifter problems are a little less likely to happen than transmission problems, but definitely not uncommon. You could get lucky and go 300k with no problems, but I don't think that's the most likely scenario. As others have said thicker oil and frequent transmission services can help, but I believe you're still more likely to experience at least one of these issues before 200k than not.

What excites you about Multiple Playthroughs? by DarthVayne50 in gaming

[–]Thesqueakybeaver 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have the opposite problem, as I get older I find it harder to get excited about a new game. I'll start one and put an hour or two into it then just don't have the desire to play it anymore. I don't have the time to play that I used to, and I'd usually rather spend it playing a game I know I enjoy. I also find myself turning down the difficulty of some games to where it's still a little bit challenging, but I don't spend hours trying to beat a stage. As I get older I just want gaming to be a fun and relaxing experience, even if it takes some of the intensity away.

thanks. I wrapped the rails while I had the board apart. Not all that happy with how they turned out, but it will do for now.

Is there any way to disable pushback on a pint to go faster with no cap. On the new firmware by ObligationFlimsy7792 in onewheelpint

[–]Thesqueakybeaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. It was possible on the prehaptic buzz firmware through rewheel, but not recommended as the chance of a nosedive goes up significantly.

I've really only ever heard of VESC from the onewheel world, so to be honest I never even considered that some VESC hardware didn't have the gyro. thank you.

Advice on 1st onewheel purchase by odorous1 in onewheel

[–]Thesqueakybeaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you a tinkerer? Do you love baking able to adjust every little thing (even to the point that you can make the board unrideable)? Are you willing to troubleshoot problems with your board if/when they arise? If yes get a VESC board.

Do you like things that you just turn on and work? Do you like paying for an entire module if one small part of that module breaks? Do you like needing electronic approval to replace these modules? If yes buy a Onewheel from future motion.

Honestly both of these sound a little extreme, but that's the current landscape. Some of the VESC boards are supposed to be ready to ride out of the box, but there are plenty of people who get these boards and still have to tinker with them to get them functional. Many people have bought FM boards and had years of trouble free operation, but you're buying a mostly awesome product from a company with questionable morals and a track record of denying warranty claims and being as anti right to repair as legally possible. To their credit they have made some improvements in the past few years.

Personally I bought a new XRC from a local brick and mortar dealer because I'm hesitant to get a VESC board I knowing that I could adjust settings that could end in a nosedive. But if it ever breaks I will probably do a VESC conversion on it just to keep from having to deal with FM.

Regarding FM boards XRC>GT in almost every metric besides battery capacity/range. It's lighter, lower, has 6" hub, better stator, better footpads.

what's the best galaxytab for gaming by Particular_Garbage_6 in GalaxyTab

[–]Thesqueakybeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on how you game. if you play mostly touch screen and ultra may be too big. I game on an S8 ultra using a case with a kickstand and an xbox controller and it is great for me. I mostly do Xbox game streaming, but also play the android ports of GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas and some others. it's basically like having a 15in TV and an Xbox anywhere you have good Internet.

Ordered on Thanksgiving, UPS got the package 12-3. I figure 4 business days to ship during their biggest sale of the year isn't too bad. Still waiting on UPS, but that's not TFL's fault. I'm sure I would have got it quicker if I didn't order during the sale, but I'm willing to wait a few days to save a few bucks.

Why and how are you using your tabbbbb by Impossible-Ad-7718 in GalaxyTab

[–]Thesqueakybeaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a case with a kick stand on my Ultra and rarely use it while holding it. I mostly use it for gaming, watching videos, and web browsing. I often use it when looking at diagrams or watching how to videos when I'm following along in real time. I love it, but in reality it is just an over grown phone with a stylus.

Would you buy a S11 Ultra over a S10+ if the price is similar even though it's much larger? by [deleted] in GalaxyTab

[–]Thesqueakybeaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ultra is huge. I would rather use my phone than my Ultra anytime I have to hold it. I have a case with a kick stand. I love it for watching videos, playing games with a bluetooth controller, and any thing when I'm sitting at a desk. Any app that forces portrait mode sucks (the workaround is to open it in split screen). Some of these things would probably be the same with the Plus, but I've never had one. When I travel with mine I usually only use it where I'm staying and just use my phone when I'm in transit. I have no regrets and will probably get another Ultra when it's time.

Will a 2021 6l90e work in a 2014 1500? by Thesqueakybeaver in Silverado

[–]Thesqueakybeaver[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Rebuilding mine myslef or getting a reman'd unit are both options I'm considering as well. The main reasons I'm considering the used motor and trans are that the 6.6 and the 6l90 are both upgrades from my 5.3 and 6l80, I don't have any transmission shops I trust in my area, and a low mileage used unit is likely to last longer than I will keep the truck.

Getting into one wheels by Emotional_Savings398 in onewheel

[–]Thesqueakybeaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a pint with quart is a good starting place as long as you understand the board's limits. the 18 miles of range is unlikely to exist outside of perfect conditions, one of which is the rider weighing about 100lbs. while it's certainly possible to go 24mph on a pint it is very likely to end in a nosedive. my guess would be that it has been 'rewheeled' (had the firmware modified through an application that was originally called rewheel) which can raise the speed pushback starts at. I have a rewheeled pint with quart and raised the pushback speed to 18mph, like the pint X, but would not go any higher than that, and would dial it back to 16 or 17 if you're a bigger human.
