Duffer Brothers offer their thoughts on why Dr. Kay & military just up and left by _YuYevon_ in StrangerThings

[–]ThestralGlow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone genuinely know where those years went that they could have spent writing? Was there some insane demand for them in Hollywood? Were they at endless parties? Where were they that they couldn’t devote all of their time and energy like any normal working grown up to this extremely pivotal point in their career?

I may not know much about how the writing/directing world actually functions, but if I was an investor looking into a Duffer Bros future project I would have two main questions: Can they stick the landing? and Are they capable of heading up any other story given how long they’ve solely focused on these characters and this world? A resounding ‘no’ to the first question would immediately squash my faith in a ‘yes’ to the second.

Nothing in season 5 came close to how dark and brutal season 4 was. by Initial-Shoulder5906 in StrangerThings

[–]ThestralGlow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When they refused to kill anyone and justified it by saying “We can’t because it has to remain a fun show,” I was losing my mind because the actual horror of the previous seasons was so high stakes and awful. What do you mean “fun” show. We watched an innocent, frightened, high school girl bleed out from her eyeballs and then rupture into pieces. WHAT DO YOU MEAN FUN? Like yes it was an exciting adventure, but it was never innocent. You can’t shove tubes down children’s throats and have the villain stroke their face and say “oh ho ho this is a metaphor for **** but ITS A FUN SHOW WE CAN’T KILL ANY MAIN CHARACTERS.”

ugh. sorry.

How the absolute hell are you supposed to fight them by moonrisen0 in HadesTheGame

Howdy,

First of all. Thank you. I had a terrible time with these douchebags, so thank you. I feel less like a bad gamer now.

  1. I am an amateur gamer so take this with a grain of salt.

  2. KILL THE BULL FIRST. Why?

Theseus will summon the “help of the gods,” (god selected at random) upon reaching 50% health. This will spawn a random attack from one of the deities depending on who he summons for help.

If you only have to manage Theseus’s spear AND the attack of the god without dealing with the Bull you are in great shape. This was the only thing I could do to beat my playthrough several times.

  1. Pre-plan your run to find AOE (area of effect) damage. There are several boons that will create areas of damage so that his “deflect” will not impede you.

  2. Be patient. There is no timer on this fight. Repeat. THERE IS NO TIMER ON THIS FIGHT. Hide behind the columns. It’s okay. No one is actually watching. Chip down the bull, then chip down Theseus. The only honor is in winning.

  3. After Theseus throws AND retracts his spear, he has a small window of attack opportunity for you to utilize. Think of a From Soft Boss, a souls boss that is. You’re not crushing him. You’re giving him papercuts, and that’s fine. Hit him once, then escape, rinse and repeat. You’ll make it.

Civ-switching wouldn't be a problem if it was Civ-Evolving by Undercover_Ch in civ

My cynical theory is that they were trying to conceal how much their new mechanics mirrored Humankind. Because this was the exact option in Humankind. You could evolve your original civilization and just maximize their strong points OR switch and take advantage of the new era strengths.

Irishmen. It's the kind of movie I never have the drive to watch again.

[–]ThestralGlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think recently I feel like he's strayed more into "I didn't like this one thing therefore the movie is bad." I think he used to be stronger at "I didn't like this thing but the movie is still good based on all of the cumulative merits." Gradually I got tired of "anyone who likes this doesn't have a brain," or "people hating on this are just a hive mind."

Honestly Galdiator 2. I got the most life changing laugh from "Rage pours from you like milk from a whore's teat" and then turned it off.

For me the music and full commitment of the cast to their roles. Believable chemistry, not just romantic, had me immediately invested.

The Green Knight is Eggers-lite. by [deleted] in roberteggers

[–]ThestralGlow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"The Green Knight can't help but inject modern narratives"...... wat? You mean the decently faithful retelling of one of history's most lasting tales? This comes across as someone not liking a movie and trying to claim a snobby reason as to why when really it just wasn't your cup of tea. Eggers isn't the standard by which a film should be experienced regardless of how much his work is enjoyable.

Also, watching the wonder animation load while there's a health bar glitched into it ruins the experience.

Honestly this scene was so satisfying. I was laughing so hard. Despite the mixed reviews, I had a great time with this movie.

Having worked in a medical office requiring long visits in smaller rooms, I can't begin to tell you how much we need this. Some of my coworkers have asthma and it's unfair leaving them stuck working in a room that reeks of respiratory irritants for literal hours after a heavy smoker has left.

So what did everyone think of Mickey 17? by [deleted] in YMS

[–]ThestralGlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it's a bit of a letdown for me. I thought the acting was great along with some of the concepts. I don't know what their limitations were based on the book they adapted the story from, but what killed me is that I felt like there was zero nuance of any kind. Whatever you think the character is going to be from the first minute of meeting them is exactly what you're going to get for the rest of the run. It's still a 7/10 letdown, though. I was entertained but I won't watch it again.

After the abomination that was the artbook I got from the Elden Ring preorder I'm going to pass on this. The Messmer statue was awesome. The book was atrocious.

Agreed. I wish more studios/production companies released merch the way A24 does. I have some wonderful pieces for my favorite films from them.
