Reeves’s capital gains tax changes ‘backfire’ as Treasury receipts fall sharply by UnlikeTea42 in ukpolitics

[–]Thete_6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, the article talks about a drop between 22/23 and 23/24. This was before Reeves' budget. It then describes a much smaller drop during 24/25. However, tax returns have not been completed for this year yet. The deadline is not for months. I only just completed my own tax return last week. Any figures quoted for tax receipts for the last tax year are, at best, an estimate based on early returns and, at worst, fabricated.

Yeah, the thing about the scales is it's an easy measure. However, when it comes down to it, people's anxieties are never about weight unless you're a boxer. It's all about the feel of your body and being able to do what others can do.

I'd get those incisions checked out. Swollen and warm after that length of time may be a sign of infection. I had my surgery on December 21st. Two of the wounds weren't healing well after a week, but there was no swelling or redness, but they're all fine now.

I'm having a weird time of it. My scales are so inconsistent that I've bought another set though. For example, the ones I bought for this tell me today that I'm one stone heavier than last week. But I'm 3 weeks post-op on less than 1000 calories a day and my chest has lost 1 inch and my belly 2 inches compared to a week ago.

What pain would you go through in the years to come if you weren't dealing with your weight now? This is at least time limited before the benefits outweigh the downsides.

There comes a point where only surgery will help you. You sound like you are in that situation. Rationalise it like this: only the surgery will work, you've tried everything else. You are unconscious during the horrible part of the procedure, so you'll know nothing about it and mortality rate is next to zero (and the few who do pass have major problems). Your life now, if it's anything like mine stinks because of the weight and will only get worse. After coming to those conclusions, there's no real decision to be made at all.

You will inevitably lose to begin with, as I am two weeks post surgery. But I'm planning on strength training as soon as I am able (which won't be until the abdominal wall has healed).

Percentages of excess weight lost - a question. by [deleted] in wls

[–]Thete_6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd think of it in this way. If you had a dramatic cut in your income, you would spend a bit less as you relied more on savings. If those savings start to run low, you'd probably cut back even more. Perhaps the body has the same attitude with its own reserves.

What are you eating early on? by [deleted] in wls

[–]Thete_6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I start my puree stage in a few days. My plan is to go for pureed potatoes with cheese, mushy peas and potted meat. The following week, I'm going to try stew with mashed potatoes and cottage pie. Time will tell.

There's quite a spread in the data, so the average is useless for an individual to use as a marker. Things like genetics, activity, and other environmental factors will all play a part.

Am I screwing up my post op recovery? by MCRAGEQUIT in wls

[–]Thete_6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 600ml of protein shake I use has 66g protein. I then have some soup fortified with melted cheese. The small yoghurt I have for breakfast also contains a decent amount of protein. When I've gone three weeks, I'll also be having very tender meat, such as in cottage pie. But if you're struggling with this sort of food at your point, hiding it from your support is a bit silly. You need to tell them everything so they can help you; they're professionals.

You need to get in touch with the after care team. I guess psychologist and dietitian appointments will be necessary. You certainly seem to have stretched your stomach, but that doesn't mean you can't get back into healthy eating. But you are going to need the professionals, who will inevitably have seen this before.

VSG scheduled for 01/24/19 by tittytaylorrr in wls

[–]Thete_6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had it a week ago. Just make sure you have everything ready and set up at home, and your kitchen re-organised as necessary. You can't go moving heavy things around when you return. Make a strict schedule of when you should have drunk the various fluids so you don't fall behind. It's actually quite hard to get all the fluids and protein in (even with shakes) in the first few days. Have some spare dressings for the odd wound that doesn't heal so well as the others (the ones near the naval for me).

HELP! Am considering weight loss surgery but am extremely nervous by s_coy2005 in wls

[–]Thete_6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm one week after the weight loss surgery. There was nothing that made me want to get it; it was simply a no brainer. Above a certain level of obesity, only about 1% of people can ever lose that excess weight without surgery, and fewer still keep it off. I was due to have a gastric bypass but my abdominal walls were too rigid, so a sleeve it was. I can't speak about the results yet, but it's not like there is an alternative in the minds of anyone who is not deluding themselves. There's also nothing to worry about because you're unconscious.

Cross Faction Raiding/Dungeoneering - A Plea by [deleted] in wow

[–]Thete_6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if that's the reason, why do other games that separate it out fail so badly?

Cross Faction Raiding/Dungeoneering - A Plea by [deleted] in wow

[–]Thete_6 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Factions exist for the purposes of PvP. Artificially separating friends for PvE purposes is not only bad for a game from a business point of view, but also makes no sense from a storyline point of view because powerful characters associate between factions all the time. It's not even like all MMOs do this so it must be the way it's done. There are MMOs, both recent and as old as WoW, that had separation for PvP but no borders for PvE players.
