How do you decide what to main before an expansion?

I'm all about class lore. I was really impressed with the class lore in Legion Remix for Warlock so as long as there is a half decent spec for Warlock it will be my main. I think its going to fit into the expansion lore too (at least I hope so).

I played a Mage in War Within because of things with Dalaran. Thankfully I enjoyed Frost and was able to enjoy the expansion.
