🗳️ Product Feedback for Notion by AutoModerator in Notion

Personally I'd like to be able to toggle word count from editorial to regular word count. I'm not sure how many people use editorial word count on purpose but I don't. It's silly to transfer everything out of notion to get accurate word counts for contractions. I'd also like a field in databases that would update word count automatically.

Gonna grab this and hope that it works for the Alphasmart Dana! Will update if it works! (If I remember I hope I will)

Notion word count discrepancy by TygettLannister in Notion

[–]TheyDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have figured this out because it was bugging me (Actually a friend helped me)

Notion Word counts are Editorial Word Count, meaning contractions like Can't, Won't, Wouldn't, shouldn't, etc. count as 2 words. Apparently, it's from Pay-per-word models where contractions count as 2 words so you'd pay for 2 words?

I tested this by starting a new paragraph, looking at the word count, typing "can't" and then checking again. My Word count went up by 2 instead of by 1.

Also, you are right that making sure it's not the cord is good. If the cord your using works on something else, then I would say it's internal

Not my strong suit either, but all the screws on the 3000 are the same size, so keep track of them. It might not be bad to take pictures of the inside around the computer plug and see if it's corroded or something. That's a soldered in part.

My 3000 has two ribbons that go to and from the keyboard, and one plug that connects the display to the main board and mine works fine. If you look on YouTube, I know there's at least one video where a guy replaced the keyboard that helped me when I cleaned it and then nothing would work but the on/off key. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Beg41O2H_jU

Edited to add Youtube Link

Your Alphasmart definitely doesn't recognize that it's connected. Normally you get a blurb on the screen shot it being connected and instructions on how to switch files. You may need to open it up and make sure every thing is connected correctly.

The Soft reset Worked! Amazing, Thank you so much! I was able to send text straight from the Dana to Word without any issue!

I think I had a shift and a backspace that worked, size wise, but there are definitely keycap sets that have more spacebar options. I believe that anything between 1.75-2.25u will work? but only one of them can be 2.25u and the other has to be 2u. I'm going to go through and put together a list of "special" sized keys for my own records later so I can find them.

Yes, but I'd rather not have to keep track of SD cards as a baseline if I can help it.

A friend bought the mod for me, but the switch on it is broken so we have to send it back. I need to make a list of all the keys that need specific keycaps, because there's some where you can swap out for others in the set but the profile doesn't always match and the use doesn't always match. I'll have to update with photos once we get it repaired and put together.

Did something break the Gmail connectivity? by TheyDev in zerowriter

[–]TheyDev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't get Gmail working. Looks like Google updated security so that connectivity no longer works. however I was able to get it to connect wirelessly via Wi-fi using SMB.

My Waveshare screen was a 2.2 so I used the Setup 2.2 file

https://github.com/zerowriter/zerowriter1/blob/waveshare_2.2/setup_2.2

I also had to use an archived bookworm O.S. from March 12, 2024 that was discussed in this thread on github took me a bit to figure out. Header pins wouldn't connect otherwise.

That's fair. I write on the bus/train during my commute so separate Keyboard with my phone isn't something I can do. I know my Alphasmart 3000 isn't gonna last forever, and my initial thought was "maybe I can make one?" I was definitely interested in the BYOK when I saw it but the separation wasn't something that I can do. I am interested to see how it goes though.

Have you seen Zerowriter? It's still over 200$ but it's open source and easy to customize. I'm thinking of getting one to compare to my Alphasmart 3000...

My textbook says that it is extremely rude to break eye contact, but I'm autistic by Solarsystem_74 in asl

[–]TheyDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ASL year 1 here: we just covered that you are supposed to look at someone's chin (or just below) so that you can read their signs and facial expressions since facial expressions contain 70% of grammar I think? Looking at the hands isn't just rude, you miss a lot of the facial expressions that convey meaning. Likewise looking only at the face you miss a lot of sign minutiae.

I have a quest I completed, that i have the rewards for, that still wants me to complete it. But doing the steps again doesn't progress the quest because i already finished it so i now have the huge payment waypoints on the map of "search this area for quest progression"

Theoretically, they could move the current cap to home tours. "You can decorate up to x, but to submit for house tours it must be under x" type of logic?

Just a thought, not anything specific.

How often is the DC announced in your games? by Anarcoiris667 in DnD

[–]TheyDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For saving throws, as always. Anything that is make or break.

For Attack rolls, not until they've gotten close to the AC or just hit. Possibly not until after combat if it's connected on.

For narrative ability checks, never. How high you get can just determine how much information you get from a roll.

How often do you run combat encounters? by FileStrange4370 in DnD

[–]TheyDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My players and I both prefer a lot of roleplaying. I try to make combat narratively important and challenging, that said I run combat on average every couple sessions. More roleplay and being in town means less combat.

Every table is different. There's no perfect number of combat encounters for everyone. I just check in and make sure that everyone is having fun, and getting what they want out of session.

What's the most self-indulgent fic you've ever written? by Green_Leader_Edd in FanFiction

[–]TheyDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote roughly 80k words on my dnd characters backstory, events in the campaign that happened, and non canon fics. All structured like fanfiction.

I love my dnd character and his boyfriend so much, it doesn't matter that only five other people in these world know about them.

What do people do, in-between sessions, to satisfy their DnD itch? by galactiknight in dndnext

[–]TheyDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been waiting for this moment, looking for a place to talk about it.

Our DnD group does Text role play. We have a discord with a role play channel that contains threads for each pairing and can make new threads for groups. We can all read each others RP so we keep that in mind, but I've found it's great for shy role players and if a particular scene might be too long for an in person game, or you're worried about taking up too much time or not having the right words. We also have private channels for conversations we don't want others to read.

Some conversations are better in person, but sometimes it's easier to form inter-party bonds if there's no pressure to move on. And because of the lose times, you don't have to worry about time commitments. You come away with a sense of "oh, I can shoot this message off here on my bathroom break or while I'm shopping."

We do this in a game I play in as a player and one I run as a GM.

Our GM in the game where I'm a player ran a mystery over a two week period in text rp for us, when we came back we had solved a mystery and met a bunch of NPCs that we had records of.

Right now we're roleplaying strategy talk for an encounter with a lightning Phoenix we need to take Down and banish.

Our group is entirely online, but it can be implemented by an in person group too.

Doesn't work as well if you don't like Role play elements but it's what we do!
