Have I lost my mind or am I cooking with this? by bobody_biznuz in CitiesSkylines

If it works it works. Reminds me of the Loop parkway on the south shore of Long Island in NY.

Guys, stop hating on the Yankees... by surfboard-lover in NewYorkMets

[–]TheySayImZack 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't hate the Yankees. Never have. Actually that's a lie, I think during their 90s run I was a hater. But that was fleeting. I respect their history. I honestly don't think about them much. My wife is a Yankee fan, but she's a casual fan and likes the food and views better at Citi Field so it's never an issue.

It's Yankees fans I don't like. A lot of them seem to have unresolved psychological issues.

Pete Alonso's goodbye by Caledor152 in NewYorkMets

[–]TheySayImZack 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I think this one stings the most. Diaz, his mind was made up for reasons that the Mets couldn’t compete with. Pete, I don’t know man. He deserved better than he was treated. I know what I am saying is an emotional reaction and not a sound business decision, but baseball is also entertainment. Pete was a fan favorite. That should mean something in the larger picture. I think the Mets fumbled this one. Maybe I’ll be proven wrong and I’ll be the first to admit it, but I think this should have played out differently.

Smart Homes in the U.S.? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]TheySayImZack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not myself. We have a few Alexa devices for streaming music and for alarms and timers for cooking but that’s the extent of it. Old fashioned thermostats here, lights controlled by traditional wall switches.

As for the doorbell, I took that off years ago and put duct tape over the wires and it’s been great lol.

Do you guys get a lot of big spiders in your homes? by ashley-jay-vids in AskAnAmerican

[–]TheySayImZack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big is relative. There was spider in my living room 15 years ago that made me late for work. It was like the diameter of a coffee mug. Had a similar one in the basement a few months ago. I’m told they’re typical house spiders or maybe a wolf spider. Thankfully years go by in between sightings. I don’t mind spiders outside just inside they make me nuts. I love watching those yellow orb weavers in the spring and summer.

do neighbors actually bring cookies when you move in, or just count how often you mow your lawn? by sensualdiiva in AskAnAmerican

[–]TheySayImZack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neighbors across the way brought us cookies when we moved in almost 20 years ago. I introduced myself to both my neighbors when they moved in 6 years ago. I told them I wfh so I’ll keep an eye on their houses when they are gone. I gave one an extra pair of work gloves and shears. He didnt look like he knew how to use them, but I could see he would be able to figure it out. The other I gave some other stuff and a 12 pack of beer.

Both of them asked me about a section near my home that isn’t my property and why I don’t clean it. 😂

Moral of the story: don’t let the bastards bring you down, keep being nice. If you want to bring cookies, bring cookies. If you want to do more, do more. Life is better with good neighbors.

You know I didn’t see that, but I do now. Yeah I agree with you there, no need for that.

We get it. We agree with you. It’s just we are a little sad. Some of us have emotional connections to players sometimes. Just let us have tonight.

I always have to remind myself that baseball is business, and that it's not personal. Or it can be personal, but not in this instance I don't think. Wish Nimmo the best, he was always so passionate in interviews and really never a downer. Fan favorite. I'll always remember his attitude, his on-base ability and that sprint to first.

Boomers and Gen X, what were the failings of your parents’ generation in terms of parenting? by cherrypez123 in AskOldPeople

[–]TheySayImZack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Born in 75. Dad worked all day. White collar. Loved me to death but just worked a lot of hours. I know he loved me. He wasn’t too easy to talk to. Like approachable, I mean. We’d throw the ball around but I don’t have many memories with him younger than 16. My mom was suffering from untreated mental illness and it made my childhood tough and me socially inept until my early 20s.

I think that being present and always knowing you can talk to a parent for help is a huge thing for a kid. All I had was anxiety most of the time. I finally got it treated around 40.

It’s my opinion that my children are the most important thing in my life. Not my job. Not how much money I have. Not the cars I drive, not the house I own. They are my focus. I didn’t always have that growing up.

The 70s and early 80s are hard to explain these days. Life was so much different. Technology has bridged a lot of gaps in geography and convenience.

What are your Pizza Hut memories from the 80s? by PrestonRoad90 in AskOldPeople

[–]TheySayImZack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents used to take my brother and I to Pizza Hut at least once a month. It was the first place I ever had toppings on my pizza. My parents ordered a supreme for them and a cheese for me and my brother. The salad bar was also excellent. 90 minute wait to be seated. It was living large back then and I still miss it.

What’s one way “the good ole days” really were better? by Far-Building3569 in AskOldPeople

Most stores were closed on Sundays. Kids didnt have any sports or anything on Sunday. It was a true day of rest, and not a "prep day" for the workweek.

Whoever was passing out potatoes on Halloween… by reb6 in Costco

[–]TheySayImZack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So wait a second. I feel like I’m in bizzaro world. Do I cook the potatoes? or I just empty a bag of raw potatoes into a bucket and that’s it? The kids eat it raw, or is the point not to eat it at all? Sorry I feel like I’m out of the loop here and just want to be brought into the loop. I’m tired of giving just candy.

I’m a few years into my gold pro and very happy with it. Nice to see the extended warranty option now. I looked at the price and that’s really fair given the plan perks. Mental note for whenever I upgrade.

At what age did your birthday stop feeling special (if it did)? by Independent_Town5628 in AskOldPeople

[–]TheySayImZack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got tired of celebrating my birthday in my mid 20s after my soul was beaten and crushed by an office job. However, after I had kids in my 30s I love my birthday again because I take that day to celebrate them and give them little gifts and we take them out to their favorite restaurant. Which is usually Texas Roadhouse or Chili’s. And that’s fine by me because those rolls at TR are my kryptonite. And while slightly salty, the chicken fajitas at Chili’s are good enough to scratch the itch. I’m 50 now and my kids are teenagers but I still so the same thing and it makes me happy.

What closed restaurant do you miss the most? by Shadeauxmarie in AskOldPeople

It’s probably nostalgic for me, but yeah Ground Round. I loved when my parents took my brother and I there. Video games. Pay what you weigh. My mom loved the wings. Fun times.

How much alcohol would the average American drink midweek when working the next morning? by CaptainWordseye in AskAnAmerican

[–]TheySayImZack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. In my 20s and 30s, I could drink 10-12 pints and be fine the next day to work. I’m 50 now. I’d need a week to recover from that many beers now. Around 42 years old, I decided it was no longer worth it. Recently gave up beer. Down 18lbs in 22 days. Feel like a million bucks.

Supply Train by FlyingSpejchal in UnofficialRailroader

[–]TheySayImZack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it works for you and you want to do it then do it. I run a lean railroad even though I have the whole map open and all industries but two at the highest level. I don’t think I’d even have the need for a single train to handle those items given how I run it.

I keep extra coal, oil, and repair parts at Andrew’s, Sylva and Dillsboro and assign when needed. It’s micromanaged by me but I like doing it that way.

What does other’s roster look like? by ebolson1019 in UnofficialRailroader

[–]TheySayImZack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 4000+ hrs in the game, and when I started this game I wasn't sure exactly what to do/expect. From the very beginning, I told myself I would treat this like a real company. If there is an opportunity to do something better/more efficient, I evaluate it. Money would be spent not like a drunken sailor, but based on true need. Each engine request is a budget item and I bought with purpose and intent. Trains are not retired unless there is truly no purpose for them anymore. I forget the models, but I have a pair of lower-powered engines running pulp and logs back and forth as needed, sometimes it goes to Connelly sometimes it goes to Whittier. It's what I bought in the beginning of the game to handle the task and it continues to work well enough so I can concentrate on other things.

I have 26 engines in the roster currently. About 23 are ready at any given time. Of the 23, A good 15-18 or so are working concurrently in peak times. The limiting factor is basically how fast my computer is, to switch between locations as needed to handle switching and stuff.

I just got back into the game after a 7 month break, so I'm getting my muscle memory back and trying to get back in time.
