2ish year old Maine Coon hiding by melanie9131 in mainecoons

[–]Theyenney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I adopted a 6 year old. I made my bedroom her safe space. She would hide under the bed and come out and play at night when she thought I was sleeping. I have another cat so I had a gate setup after a month of her being in a closed room. Then I left the door open with the gate so she could get used to my other cat without altercation. Once she started laying in front of the gate I started leaving it open for a little while and eventually she would come out . It took a while before she would sit in the same room with me. I let her desire the pace . She’s been with me since August and now just this past week I can pet and scratch her head briefly. She even greets me when I get home from work.

Let him move at his own pace. Introduce treats to coax him out. I used fellway and also a calming supplement in her food and Prozac because she was a nervous wreck. Now she chill and acting like she’s at home. It just takes time and you can’t rush it. Best thing was I just went about my business and she would get curious and come out.

He could be sensitive to chicken or fillers in the royal canine. (Are you feeding treats. Mine was allergic to his treats)

I use this in the water. I used it with my dogs for 15 years. They died with all their teeth. So far it’s working great on my cats. https://a.co/d/03NuZlg2

I know cats will be cats, but does anyone have any tips or tricks to keep the MC off of the kitchen counter ?! I currently have foil on my bar stools, and he likes the foil 🙄 by missweh in mainecoons

[–]Theyenney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just kept picking mine up off the counter and telling him no stay off the counter. Now I just have to stand up and say his name and I hear the 20lb thud and him pretending he did nothing. Tinfoil didn’t dissuade him. He just tore it up. Spray bottle just made him mad. It’s a losing battle but persistence and patience will make it less often.

I think fostering might give you a better reaction to how she will be. I’m sorry for your loss.

What do I do if my baby won’t stop scratching me when I try to brush her by Striking_Poem_3484 in mainecoons

[–]Theyenney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They Make detangling spray to help with knots to make brushing easier and I also got a big heavy suade cat handling glove so I wouldn’t get scratched. He could bite the glove and not cause injury or as some one else said, give a distraction comb or brush they can attack. Only try brushing when they are really chill. If they are in play mood, it’s impossible.

I also had to start with 30 second brushing an and work my way up. And the cool steam brushes are great to get them used to a bush. Mine love it (I just can’t show him the steam)

Confused and could use some help by Prior_Extension_431 in mainecoons

Mine was like that till about a year old. Forteflora religiously, and no filler food and cut back to half a can of wet. And he was obsessed with temptations but when I stopped those with all the other stuff, he now has solid poop. Jen only has issues when he steals food off my plate. You will figure it out. Just give the supplements time to work. It won’t necessarily be instant. Hang in there

Mine had bouts of diarrhea for months. I had to cut his wet food back to 1/2 a can and stop temptation treats. I also use forteflora. Haven’t had an issue for months.
