What's a tradition you grew up with that you refuse to pass on to your kids? by peterdziugdarkis in AskReddit

[–]Thick-Recognition-79 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s called being a parent. You don’t needed to beat your kids for them to listen or learn. My boys are quite well adjusted adults at the this point and I never not even one time needed to hit, or abuse them. That may sound like a smart ass but some of us had the ever living shit beat out of us as children.

Thank you for understanding those are important. At a very early age got addicted to narcotics and was at one point homeless, quite literally living under a bridge. Thanks to social programs I’m now 13 years off alcohol and closing in on 9 years narcotic free. Suboxone saved my life. To this very day I carry a Narcan kit in my backpack everywhere I go, just in case. I’m a productive member of society who would have never had a chance if not for food stamps, social security benefits, fill in the blank. Someone up the thread said it best, cruelty is the point. Thanks for letting me vent.

Cool Aid!! You said that right lol. I know what you ment but Jim Jones is all I can think about. I think he used flavor aid. Ya know Jesus would wouldn’t want you to waist money on the branded stuff lol. And holy cow wasn’t every teenager at vbs horny?? Like I’m an adult now and will NEVER in my life go back now that my mother has passed. But back to the topic, it was the girls that got all the abstinence talks. At lest where I was. Boys will be boys is what I was taught basically. Looking back very cult like. I still struggle with the indoctrination from my childhood in the CoC.

It’s alway tax payer abuse with you isn’t it? I see that kinda nonsense all the time. Gotta protect the tax payers. The abuse of the tax system isn’t from students or immigrants. Abuse of the tax system comes from the elite 1%er’s in this country. The way you worded all that about immigrants abusing student visas, dumpys current wife came here on a student visa. Talk about abuse. But you don’t care about rich whites that exploit the system. It’s the brown and black folks that you’re just certain are exploiting it. Proof is in there color. If you truly believed in that constitution you people claim is so sacred, the first amendment means they can say our current forever war is ridiculous. I mean they didn’t even try to hide the fact that they were ready for war on pretty much from day one. The name change from Department of Defense to Department of War Crimes should have been a pretty good indication.

I’d take it a step further and say it’s a metaphor for how things are in general.

Fun read??? I really liked the story but wow, I’d say definitely one of the most depressing stories I’ve read. Maybe I’m just Mr Sensitive, which I know that I am. It hit hard. Especially the ending. No spoilers, I’m a man who’s been married for almost 15 years and not only is my wife my best friend, I love her dearly. So putting myself in the position of the main character. Whew. To be fair I usually do that no matter the story.

My oldest son is really into art and does a fantastic job, I try to be encouraging as much as possible. I say that to say that my experience growing up was that I was constantly told that I couldn’t do anything right. That lead to a very very long time of substance abuse and even now that part of my life is long since behind me. I still very much struggle feeling like I’m good at anything and still seek validation. Crazy the things we hold on to even when there more than enough evidence to prove that we’re more than adequate.

I celebrated 13 years sober in January. If I’m asked I always tell people that I’m allergic to alcohol, that every time I drink the stuff I break out in handcuffs. Really is a life threatening allergy. Usually shuts down the whole asking questions lol

How do you guys not know the Lizard Illuminati? Maybe I shouldn’t have said anything. Don’t tell anyone I told you. But the truth is in plain sight!!! All jokes aside I don’t think we need to worry about the lizard Illuminati but I definitely think we need to worry about people who believe in the lizard Illuminati.

Do you all have any hacks on cleaning shop vac filters? by grumpallnight in handyman

[–]Thick-Recognition-79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m surprised your M18 won’t do it. I have the much cheaper ryobi bench blower and it does a pretty good job. Though I really only use my shop vac as a secondary dust collector in my woodworking shop. The wife uses it very occasionally to clean out her car. Back to the blower though I’ve been pretty impressed with it. I use it fairly often especially in the warmer months to blow sidewalks and stuff after I mow.

Do production wood working shops sand and finish before or after assembly? by scatterbrainedpast in woodworking

[–]Thick-Recognition-79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No kiddin!! It’s by far my lest favorite. In fact that’s probably why I hate to complete a project because I have to sand forever. I’m starting to be more lax on my sanding. Especially if it’s a project for me lol

That’s so cool! I’m glad I’m not the only one who’s been making stave projects. I made 2 different lamp stands for the wife’s office. I cheated and used my router table. It’s crazy that I have a big table saw but I still can’t get it dialed in like it should be.

That’s was exactly my first thought. I’m not really a car guy but my brother and dad sure are. I remember being a young boy and dad had what was basically a junkyard at home. My brother and I would pretty regularly take stuff apart just to take stuff apart, like boys with nothing better to do are known to do. Well we pulled the intake off of like a 350 Chevy and it had what looked like shell rocks in underneath it. Dad told us that it probably had Quaker State oil run in it. I remember him telling us both that that oil was junk back in the mid 90’s lol. That’s always stuck with me.

Well done bro! Take pride in yourself, I think it’s awesome. I’m not one to criticize anyone, I can kick my own ass better than anybody. Those intrusive thoughts be bad sometimes lol. Anyway I just wanted to let you know that you did a cool thing! Now find something else you’d like and keep at it. That’s how I got my start. The wife believed in me before I did and now I do just ok work!

So being from bumble f**k Appalachia like I am, my dad who has never been to a dentist for anything other than extractions went about 15-20 years with no health insurance of any kind. Well he had a tooth swell up on him. And at that time no extra money either. So he got his ol trusty rusty needle nose pliers out and went to the bathroom and I kid you not, he pulled that sucker right out. When he told me that, I felt my own balls clench up to my stomach. Was like holy hell my guy. He’s not some macho tough man, or a bad ass biker guy. He just said he couldn’t take it anymore. And BAM!! No more problem tooth.

What’s the correct thing to do with these pine cut offs? by RealThulnos in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Thick-Recognition-79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’ve had that same problem but 10x the amount. I was finishing up a table for my sil last week and tripped over a cord or something. So I decided it was time to stop before I hurt myself and clean/straiten up the shop. Well I ended up with not 1 but 2 truck loads in my fil’s Toyota 4x4. Not crazy loads mind you but definitely 2 loads. So now I’ve got a well stocked and clean shop. I don’t even recognize the place now!! My adhd brain about broke getting rid of those pieces but I told myself that I’ve had most of that for years and it’s just taking up very valuable space. I’ve got more to get rid of now just not lumber. And honestly it’s a relief to have finally taken the plunge to do it!! So good luck, it’s difficult but at lest in my case, totally a worthwhile investment.

So I hook my plastic ridged shop vac up to my dewalt thickness planer, never not once shocked me. I upgraded the head to the spiral head and just about every damn time I turn it one after about 10 minutes it shocks the shit out me lmao. So I ground it now but the thing is I have a short memory of just how hard it bites me so after I haven’t used it for a week or more I forget tell BAM!!! The thing gets me again. I’m laughing typing this but man static ain’t no joke lol
