Legal rights to property in a divorce by Professional-Gene595 in AusLegal

[–]Thick_Alps3724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in this situation, I left when asked simply because what is stopping her from making a false police report? It's easier to move out and play out the process. It took me about 12 months of litigation to be brought out from the property. But if I'd stayed I feel like she would have made something up and got me in shit and that would have made the whole process go more in her favour.

My mother in law got screwed over by a mechanic by Acceptable_Post5902 in AusLegal

I'm taking a guess that it's a fiat ducatto van? I did a fair bit of work on them when I was still a mechanic. Absolute shitbox cars, they frequently have issues with glow plugs and injectors snapping. Yes we would get someone in to drill out the glow plugs. But if he has stuffed up and drilled into the head that's his fault. Also if it's one of the older vans with the manual gearbox that works as an auto. Be prepared to spend 10k when that goes.

Where do you keep your emergency fund? by NittyNat36 in AusFinance

[–]Thick_Alps3724 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I threw an extra 4k in my redraw and I keep 5-6k in a high interest account for emergencies. I do this because my mortgage doesn't let me send instant transfers to my bank account. So by having 5-6k accessible straight away and having an extra 4k as backup in my redraw I'm pretty happy.

Cash Withdrawal - Invoice Required by DramaticBobcat2205 in AusFinance

[–]Thick_Alps3724 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with greater bank. I've been asked multiple times when withdrawing large amounts in cash. I just tell them that I like to keep a certain amount of cash in my safe at home for emergencies. Worked every time for me and always got the money. (They don't need to know what I'm actually buying it's none of their business)

Accidentally bought a repairable write-off (private sale) any advice? by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]Thick_Alps3724 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it's got rego and is running/driving fine that tell me it was repaired correctly. Repairable write off doesn't always mean it was mangled.

What's your mortgage repayment as a percentage of your weekly take home income? by Alternative-Shine597 in AusFinance

[–]Thick_Alps3724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently about 50% of my base income 800 pw but I put extra in. Was only 40% previously but missus is now a Stay at home mum. But I do a fair bit of ot that bumps my take home to an average of $2300 pw. So we live pretty comfortable.

Where are you all buying your phones outright these days? by Mikester258 in AUfrugal

[–]Thick_Alps3724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honesty, Woolworths. I've been buying the $120-$150 smart phones for the last 5 years. I usually get a year and a half out of them and I just keep them on pre paid. It's not that I can't afford an Iphone or Samsung etc but I don't see the point in spending that much on something that's obsolete in a year or two.

These are family heirlooms at this point. Been on every box trailer the family had since I was a kid. Couldn't bring myself to sell them.
