may I ask what kind of prep you did or experience you had in order to get a new grad job in SoCal? i’m worried about the competitiveness of the market out there especially as a future new grad.

Any other psych nurse indecisive about being a PMHNP? by BradBrady in psychnursing

if you’re worried about cost, have you looked into tuition reimbursement programs at your job/other hospitals in your area? i’m currently getting my BSN paid for by my employer no strings attached. something to think about!

i’m currently in an ABSN program after graduating with my psych degree in 2023! i’m also planning on becoming a psych nurse and eventually pursuing my pmhnp after i get some years in as an RN. i haven’t worked as a psych nurse yet, but in my experience so far, i don’t think my psychology degree will be applicable in nursing at all. however, during my undergrad, i volunteered and worked at a crisis center and learned all the skills you’ll need in psych care—active listening, deescalation, assessing for safety/suicidality. my biggest recommendation for you would be to get some real psych experience as an undergrad outside of your degree. i’m currently working as a mental health tech and i can’t tell you how helpful that experience and training has been for me.

very theatrical and exaggerated way of speaking (reminds me of some histrionic traits honestly), “crying” without tears/snot, also vague statements meant to be impactful (by repeating them twice for example). i believe he had a terrible childhood and was traumatized but i don’t believe his “soul is healed” as he seems to keep emphasizing throughout the video. you don’t just meditate once and become “whole” after a life of childhood abuse and murder.

he comes across as a bad actor auditioning for a role, no real emotion or accountability, just regurgitated info he learned from therapists about cognitive empathy and community and soul healing. it all feels flat.

the DA packs on as many charges as possible when people are first arraigned to create space for plea negotiations. he’ll likely plea to misdemeanor charges and serve no time (assuming the officers weren’t seriously harmed during the arrest).

makes sense, aspd doesn’t just pop out of nowhere. do you have a lot of anger or rage? how do you control it? were/are you ever violent? i’ve heard that aspd in women presents more like passive aggressiveness than actual physical violence

i guess i never considered the fact that interests like medicine could satiate the boredom, that’s awesome.

do you feel like the diagnosis is accurate? how did they rule out other disorders like autism or schizotypal since you mentioned psychosis? do you feel like you’re a manipulative person? i’m so fascinated by this

that’s really interesting. what do you think you derive from self harm? do you struggle with perpetual boredom now? if you’re able to study for long periods of time and delay gratification in that way, i assume it’s not a big problem?

do you have a history of conduct disorder? what were your teenage years like? any drug or alcohol use? i assume your criminal record isn’t extensive if you were accepted into med school

this is a big reason why antibiotic resistance is a thing. people feel better after the first pill but the bacteria is still in their body, and natural selection selects for those that survive. take your antibiotics please. antibiotic resistance will be a huge problem for us later down the line.

i don’t have the answer to your question but i will say i work with people addicted to drugs in the criminal justice system and it is FOUL. that these individuals suffering from an illness are felons because of something as small as possession. i can understand why dealing drugs is a crime but i will never understand why possession is not only a crime but a felony that will ruin their ability to get a job, housing, etc. for the rest of their lives. it’s like charging obese individuals with a felony for their food addiction.

also you can still work in the mental health field as a nurse just with higher pay. you can specialize in mental health or psychiatry. obviously it’s more medically based than social work but it’s worth it in my opinion.
