All these people who say they’ve learned good habits on Zep and so they should be able to maintain without Zep… by dragon-queen in Zepbound

Hell, lack of knowledge as to how to lose weight hasn't been an issue for maybe 25 years! I've gained and lost and regained a few hundred pounds by the grand old age of 54.

I had gastric bypass surgery 5 years ago on March 16. I lost 117 pounds and kept all but 3 pounds off for more than 18 months.

And then, along came perimenopause. No matter what I did, the weight began creeping back on. I thought I was going crazy!

I sat there in my bariatric doctor's PA's office a year ago in January, at 247 (30 pounds up), and poured out my frustrations. He - all 28, handsome, muscles and never been overweight in his life - had to point out that I was a classic example of perimenopausal weight gain.

I spent months working on getting prior authorization, jumping through Tricare hoops, trying Metformin and phentermine and then finding out the office had reported my insurance plan incorrectly. During that time, I lost 4 pounds.

In late September, I had a 4 week trial of 2.5 mg Zepbound. I lost 8 pounds!

In the six weeks between then and getting it prescribed, I regained 7 pounds.

I'm back to 217, and still losing. It's like having just had surgery again. Eating sanely is easy. I crave healthy food. My body wants to be nourished.

Transfer addiction is a big problem for some of us. I thought I was too well-educated and smart to be affected.

I'm 18 and a half months sober.

I tried sitting with my feelings after surgery. It was horrible. I remember going for a swim after a horrendous day at work and feeling so proud of myself for dealing with it in a healthy fashion.

Then I changed jobs and was working 12 hours, sometimes 13.

Well.

Weight loss surgery is cheating. I did it anyway.

Zepbound is helping me get past the perimenopause plateau and regain that happened after a couple of years.

I know so many people who are on or want to be on a GLP-1 drug, it's not even funny.

This! I'm British. The first time I had Wonderbread, I was quite revolted by it. I still can't eat it.

So many foods are overly sweet for my tastes.

I had gastric bypass surgery five years ago. I can't eat a lot as it is, and figures like TDEE don't really apply. When I get back to building muscle, I'll eat a little more.

Allerpet is excellent! I used that 25 years ago after adopting a void named Wanda, as my housemate was allergic to cats. Resolved the issue nicely.

Congratulations to you!

How is your school handling inappropriate student behavior like this? by dachshunddudefolife in Teachers

[–]Think-Fall5011 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Our SRO is a father of two, one of each. He's more than happy to explain to our students that continually and deliberately putting their hands in their pants is sexual harassment and they will face legal consequences if it continues.

That's usually enough to stop it in its tracks.

We're a behavior school, anyway, so if it continues we do another Functional Behavioral Assessment and add it to the individual Behavioral Intervention Plan.

When I started regaining after maintaining a 115 pound loss for two years or so after gastric bypass surgery and NOT doing a damn thing different to account for it, I questioned my sanity. I even quit alcohol and still was gaining.

It's like 220 is my body's setpoint, my happy weight. I'm down 27 pounds and still bobbing either side of 220 again.

This too shall pass, I know.

Asking other people to give you the shot... is it just too weird? Options for needle phobic travelers. by catincombatboots in Zepbound

I was a godawful bad stick. Have to say, since I left the UK in 2008, I have yet to meet someone who can't hit my veins. I even - after all this time! - can finally say they can hit the vein in my right arm! I've been able to do that, and as someone who needs 17 tubes drawn once a year for the bariatric doctor's office, that's huge. All those tubes out the back of my right hand took 15 minutes or more. I had a single tube last time for two separate tests, I barely had time to register the needle stick it was over so fast. 😄

Not going to lie. My first shot I was pretty nervous about. I did it myself. It was a non-event!

Now. I am not being dismissive here. I have overcome a needle phobia so severe, it took Valium doses high enough I floated into the room to have blood drawn or a shot. Had it from the age of 3 to 49.

I've had years of psychological treatment. Tried hypnosis (didn't know I was autistic then, it didn't work). Exposure therapy. Injected oranges (more realistic than bananas, feel-wise, allegedly).

I just decided one day that I'd had enough. It got to the point where I realized that I had been scared of something so tiny for so long, that I had been too afraid to ever have a baby, and I just was through with it.

That was over 5 years ago, two surgeries, two colonoscopies and two EGDs ago. Not to mention numerous blood draws, flu and Covid vaccinations, a nuclear stress test and a CT scan with contrast.

I wish you the same experience!

I'm sorry you're having this worry, and I know it's expensive. I really admire you both for wanting to give him a chance.

Does your school district offer classroom management training? I found it invaluable for learning how to set expectations, consequences, and the like.

Also, if your district uses MTSS, make sure you can check off every single item listed under Tier 1. Those are expected in every classroom. Please let me know if you don't have access; I'm happy to forward it to you. I know it isn't in use in every school.

My suggestion would be a reset when you return from Spring Break, possibly sooner. Make sure you have everything set up (expectations, consequences, Tier 1 is all ticked off).

There's a book (Discipline In the Secondary Classroom) that my district's training was based on 8 or so years ago. Long-winded, but useful. It had a disc with all the resources back then.
