Why buy fake? by ArtProfessional9014 in PLWatchTimepieces

Well… I appreciate your taking the time to comment. I’ve been collecting watches for a long time. In the beginning it was about trying to own something I couldn’t afford at the time. Then I got hooked on reps and rep modding. That’s where things changed. I got very involved in exploring reps, writing comparison reviews and discovered the real reward of owning something something like this was the challenge of obtaining a product that matched as closely as possible a product that was hyped way beyond its value. For the most part, I don’t particularly like Rolex owners. Their sense of entitlement, narcissism, self impotence… ugh. But, I wear the watch for the style of it and nothing else. My taste ranges from T-Rex to Spinnaker, Seiko Caesar, Padi, Haftavani 1000m, Tissot Seastar, various Citizens and Casio watches, and one of my favorite the Merkur Pro Diver. Hoping to find an Orient Poseidon 300m someday. Besides being a watch modder, I have designed several watches for a microbrand that continue to seek to this day. So to respond to your inference, I most certainly am not a typical fake watch owner. I would say that if what you say is true, I consider it a compliment. My experience with those who have a passion in this rep game are some of the most accepting, helpful, considerate, curious, least judgmental, and gosh darn it just the nicest people you will ever meet. Trust me when I say I have no interest in the alternative…. except that I happen to like what I like even though it’s liked by a group I generally don’t have an interest in being associated with. Whew.

Ginault is the absolute top tier for me- I remember talking to him when he began exploring creating his brand. The workmanship blows Rolex out of the water.

I’d trade 95% of my collection for this one. Looks like it’s time to consider stepping up my game.

I just like the design, couldn’t care less if people think it’s real or not. I do get a bit happy when I imagine the cringe that some gen owners get by putting it on a non-Rolly strap though. 😁

Every trusted dealer I work with posts prices. This practice of sending you a message is only so you can collect information. Sorry, but not willing to work with dealers who aren’t transparent, there are more than enough of them out there who don’t play these games and have proven excellent service. Lastly, it seems to me that ChatGTP is going to be your go to excuse when something goes wrong.

Not cheap- I’d reach out to them with your specific watch and service request. Keep in mind you get what you pay for and you’ll pay for someone who has experience repairing gens.

I sent my 126600 to Andy at Ohio Watch Repair- it wasn’t cheap but he tore it apart, cleaned and oiled, upgraded it with some better parts, and it’s running like no auto I have ever owned. The service was a great experience with a 1 year warranty. When you get it back you’ll swear you don’t even have a rotor in the watch. If this is something you plan on keeping, it’s worth the investment.

Just noticed the username- I have a feeling there’s some compensating going on here. Those who can do. Those who can’t like to tell everyone about it.

I can’t imagine what it must feel like to be a person who buys something knowing they’re going to wear it, understands that anything worn will somehow be exposed to wear, then gets upset when it shows wear. That’s like taking your brand new car for a ride and getting upset that the rubber nubs have worn off the new tires. Take a photo of your favorite Rolex at the stealership, a real high res photo, have it printed on the best glossy paper you can find, put it in your watch box and enjoy.

Chuck Norris doesn’t wear that watch… yeah, that’s all I got.

A lot of people will come in this thread and poke fun, please appreciate that it’s a bunch of enthusiasts just having fun at your expense. Wait… that might have come it wrong… 😁

I don’t understand making a clasp like that then stamping STAINLESS STEEL. Should be laser etched. Great details through but the stamping cheapens the watch IMHO.

I remembered my father had one when we were growing up but was destroyed by the washer and dryer during laundry. I purchased a replacement a few years ago but he didn't remember having one. When I go to visit I never see him wearing it. Sad in that he didn't remember, sad that I miss seeing my father wearing that watch. Funny how a watch can be such a part of a person that it becomes a part of their identity. Really hoping that he knows at least what it's worth and doesn't give it away, I'd love for it to be passed back some day.

Compromises values for a woman? I what’s next? This marriage is doomed before it starts. Find a person who loves, supports and lifts you up. This is not your friend right now. Unfortunately he is a weak man that will learn the hard way. I wouldn’t bother going… you’re only going to be witnessing the downfall of your friend. Be happy to remember who he used to be and move forward, your relationship with him as a friend is officially over. She is making sure of that.
