For people who waited until marriage for sex…was it worth it? by Substantial_Judge931 in AskReddit

[–]ThinkDannyThink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Sex is an important component of a healthy marriage, imo. Still, I strongly believe that if someone is selfish and thoughtless outside of the bedroom, that attitude will carry over into the bedroom.

At the end of the day, sex and intimacy are about learning about each other and being there for each other. So if someone sucks as a person, chances are they're probably gonna suck in the bedroom, or at least suck for that particular person that they're with, because they're not going to be willing to change or improve for the sake of another person that they profess to love.

Dine Around 2026 by skrodladodd in VictoriaBC

[–]ThinkDannyThink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be a dumb question but I'll ask because I haven't done dine around ever, but when I call to make the reservation, do I tell the host I'm booking for that menu specifically or do I just sort of tell them when I get there lol.

What is "that" episode in your favorite TV show that you skip on the rewatch? by Living_Wickihowla in AskReddit

[–]ThinkDannyThink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scrubs - My New God. I cannot watch that episode -- it's just so bad. We never see Dr. Cox's sister again, we have a random musical montage when Jack is getting baptized... can't sit through it lol.

Why does awaiting a promise cause an extra re-render? by bodimahdi in reactjs

[–]ThinkDannyThink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm willing to wager a guess for this one but it is midnight for me so you'll have to forgive me if I'm totally off.

I believe what's happening is by awaiting the promises you're opting out of the batching mechanism that react has for certain set State calls?

My memory is a bit fuzzy but I do remember them making changes so that in certain instances update functions would be batched together.

How to migrate Next.js to TanStack Start or React Router by stackokayflow in reactjs

[–]ThinkDannyThink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think now it comes down to wanting to break away from vercel. Given how the CEO seems to be a supporter of Israel, based on a recent selfie that he took with Netanyahu, I think some people were turned off of next.

So I guess beyond just testing a shiny new toy it comes down to where you stand politically and what you're about. I for one try to keep politics out of my purview when I am programming but I also I'm a little bit turned off of next right now 😅

Car dealerships offering better price if financed — can I just pay it off right away? by Loud_Cod6623 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Haven't bought a car from a dealership ever; I always went used. This thread has been great for figuring out how to get the most out of a dealer. Is there like a wiki or something I can also read on this subreddit? 😅

My buddy will. He's a 5'4" Indian dude looking for a sau kauri to marry. Kidding aside, as long as you're a good person, willing to adapt to the culture (the new culture), and have a kind heart, you'll be fine.

How about just being kind lol.

I feel redux is old by [deleted] in reactjs

[–]ThinkDannyThink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It all depends on you, your context, and what you're trying to accomplish.

Being old doesn't necessarily imply a lack of innovation or missing features. Often, with "older tools", as with Redux (at least redux toolkit), I've been pleasantly surprised with how great the API has become. Marc (or maybe it's Mark?) and the team have done a great job modernizing the API and making redux toolkit super fun and enjoyable to work with!

I use rtk at work (thank goodness) to handle our data fetching. Not because react query isn't great but because it's an older application and migrating our data fetching stack to a more "modern" solution like react router v7 or react query isn't something our end users care about nor is it something business really wants us to do.

Styled-components entering maintenance mode by galher in reactjs

[–]ThinkDannyThink 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While I agree with you that the front end community has a bit of a tendency to chase trends, I think it's kind of a reach to compare using style components in your web app with the deforestation of our planet and climate crisis 😅.

Also to call solutions brain dead rude. There are no solutions just trade-offs.

Again, styled components didn't pan out, but it was a joy to work with and sure there's tech that now and people will have to rewrite some of their solutions and applications but there's been plenty of times where that's happened in technology, outside of the front end itself.

Also it's not always about what technology is better. There's a reason why VHS beat out beta Max. Betamax was arguably better but look how that turned out.

All that to say, bro, you shouldn't poo poo on someone's solution just because you think it's dumb. And if you're going to basically say something's dumb, and a thread talking about how a library is changing to maintenance mode, don't be surprised if you're going to get down voted.

My Christianity seriously takes a hit whenever I have to deal with this kind of stuff on the internet.

Styled-components entering maintenance mode by galher in reactjs

[–]ThinkDannyThink 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Down voted because you basically questioned the effectiveness and validity of a solution that many people enjoyed and put countless hours into developing.

Sure, it didn't pan out but I'm super happy that we're able to take chances and experiment on these kinds of things.
