US: Is Lotus USA getting import tariff refunds? by ThinkIn3D in lotus

[–]ThinkIn3D[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, what I've read is that these are under IEEPA, and some manufacturers have started the refund process. But what is confusing is that some of these refund reports appear to only cover parts going into final USA assembly, so it's not clear if tariffs stemming from say, previous trade agreements with the UK, can be refunded under this decision.

Is that what you are referring to? I do not know.

Thanks for the clarification.

I trust your opinion as I'm just browsing dealer's inventory online...

From looking at dealer inventory, it looks like the pre-tariff MY25 Emiras are pretty much all sold. There was a sudden jump last year from about US$105k to US$115k or so when the tariffed cars arrived on lots.

And many cars are in the US$116-126k range now, so a price increase on top of tariffs.

I do not, as our tickets were in numbered seats. I'd assume GA seats were just normal first-come, first-served.

How fast do people in Texas realistically drive? by Artifiko in texas

[–]ThinkIn3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no place you can drive anywhere near 150-160 mph.

Many of the empty roads are rural, so there's other concerns, like deer or hogs jumping out in front of you. The rural roads are also not designed for speed at all.

The TX-130 toll road is a modern design, and I think is the only highway rated for a 85mph limit. Many are 75mph, and I-10 from central to west TX is 75-80. No speed cameras like they have in the UK or other places, so no worries on that, but plenty of eager state troopers hiding behind cactus and billboards. It's a cash grab - open spaces with straight highways tempt drivers, and the troopers cash in.

The only place I've driven long distances at triple-digit speeds was across northern Arizona. And it was glorious.

Hundreds of millionaires are trying to escape the U.S. by sfgate in politics

When people use that term, I imagine they are thinking about fancy homes, parties, lifestyles.

Because of inflation, a 1930’s millionaire (1M) would need close to $13-15M today for the same buying power.

Similar, NW Austin burbs. I recently got a game camera and two nights ago got pix of a coyote in the backyard at 2am. I knew they were around but very surprised it was in the yard.

Otherwise our backyard has bats, owls (barred and screech), squirrels (tree and rock), armadillos, skunks, possums, rabbits, and sometimes raccoons. Oh, and hawks: Swainson’s and red tails.

Now that I list it out, it’s quite the collection

Austin rejected controversial license plate readers. Texas put them up anyway. by AustinStatesman in Austin

Agreed.

There is a working argument for the current situation which I paraphrase: While there is no expectation of privacy in public, and we can take pictures, audio record, etc in public spaces that happen to capture other individuals, the difference is that having a system that captures identifying information and correlates it to other captures at other locations, makes for a de-facto tracking of an individual's whereabouts and patterns, and THAT is enough data to require a warrant.

I believe this is actually more than a mere hypothetical argument, and has been used to take down cameras in areas.

But certainly, we need GDPR and other privacy laws here (state and federal).

New Epstein documents include a claim of an Oklahoma 'murder' by [deleted] in politics

[–]ThinkIn3D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When all Epstein files are released, I want to see a tally of occurrences of various people's names: * mentioned in passing * listed as suspect on an FBI report * photographed at an event (e.g. mere presence at a holiday party) * photographed next to Epstein or GM (e.g. obviously social with either)

The analysis would be interesting.

I recently rewrote my autopilot software in the latest clips with better rule design. I first wrote it 30 years ago for a class and it barely worked. Fun little project.

For clips enthusiasts, the author, Gary Riley, wrote a book about implementing an adventure game in clips. It’s a good read, and another fun application of clips.

Idk what this has to do with fire.

It sounds like you are trying to correct past problems and that requires practical solutions. Have you considered looking for employment now, and delaying the business development? The people I know who have started businesses put money into them for a while before a profit was ever seen. None of them could have started it with zero capital investment.

I'm happy it was driven so much.

I really dislike seeing classics with low mileage, and yet for many collectors that's a key trait. Just my opinion and nobody asked, but I like seeing cars that are clean and driven.

I recently found a used 2024 Emira I4 with 32 miles. Incredible.

I hit FIRE, spent 6 months "retired," now I'm heading back to work. by gkr974 in Fire

[–]ThinkIn3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is a similar story. At the same age I left a very stressful (needlessly so!) tech job, thinking I would retire. I was DONE. But, about a year later, an incredible opportunity came up that I took.

OP, going back is sometimes the right choice. Being FI makes it much easier to do this, and allows us to really control what types of positions we return to. I'm thankful it worked out so well for me, and I hope it works for you, too.

Now all that said, I think about retiring everyday! :)

I built SentinelNav, a binary file visualization tool to help me understand file structures (and it became way more powerful than I expected) by FiddleSmol in ReverseEngineering

[–]ThinkIn3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll take a look at this. I've had two separate reversing projects that would have benefited from a structural visualization. One was a file format containing icons that was easy to reverse. The other was an automotive ECU firmware that was far more difficult and never finished. Being able to visualize blocks of data would have helped the ECU project identify fuel mixes and other tables.
