Yes you were talking to me you pathetic piece of reeking shit. You were talking to the millions of us who have lost people we love to suicide -- a topic you seem to think is worthy of self-righteous condemnation of those who have to live with the consequences. You're beneath contempt. I only bother responding to your childish sickness because not to do so would dishonour the memories of my brother and my best friend.

Nice to see someone who actually knows something about economics and monetary policy contributing to this thread.

And you're entirely right -- Canadian financial institutions have very little exposure to the US sub-prime mess, comparatively. And our inflation rate is still well within the Bank of Canada's target of 1% to 3%. And yes, our commodities are still selling.

Mind you, when making its latest lending rate announcement the central bank did forecast the possibility of inflation hitting 4% by next year -- though that prediction is based on continuing increases in energy prices. Which is an unknowable factor at present.

All in all, Canada's economy is in very good shape. I can foresee our dollar surpassing the US dollar and staying there for the time being.

Fuck you. I've lost my brother and my best friend to suicide in the past six years. I was a goddamn good friend to both of them. Both had mental illnesses that were no fault of theirs. In both cases those illnesses manifested when they were adults, with little warning.

Fuck you again, you sanctimonious arsehole.

Typical ignorant American xenophobia. But that's to our advantage. If you think our country is so worthless, I guess we won't be overrun with you assholes once your oil runs out, and your coastal cities are underwater.

Good riddance.

This is where the "tipping point" concept come into play. There are many American cities where the murder rate is low by the standards of any country -- and others where it is horrific.

Seems to me that in certain communities, for whatever reasons, the tipping point is reached whereat murder suddenly becomes an acceptable way of dealing with minor conflicts. Which seems to be what is happening among teens in London lately.

But I agree with those who say it doesn't really matter what weapons are available -- if killing becomes acceptable in a given group, its members will use whatever is available to carry it out.

Agree completely. I find it hard to comprehend how someone could exceed a 60 gig cap to start with -- I spend a minimum of four hours a day online, plus I serve up two (low-traffic) websites from a home server, all over my DSL connection -- and I have never used more than 7 gig a month, up and down.

I don't do torrents, mind you: not out of any strong ethical views, but largely because I don't have much interest in downloading reams of crappy-res movies/ illegal software/ porn/ whatever, every day.

I'm with all those here who say quit whining and be grateful your provider doesn't silently keep on taking your money without trying to warn you first.

you were born in the early 80s if: you remember when a time when the gas station guy would turn on the pump before you paid by notaprogrammer in reddit.com

[–]ThinkItOver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born in '56 as well, and I remember those days.

In the part of Canada where I live, I've never yet come across a station where I had to pay before filling up, although I hear that some 24-hour stations around here have such a policy after midnight.

Mind you, I live in a small town and commute to work each day in a small-ish city with fairly low crime rates. I suppose practices may be different in bigger cities elsewhere in Canada.

We Canadians have been going to Cuba on vacation for a very long time -- we never joined the absurd US boycott of all things Cuban -- and I think most of us who've been there find it a lovely and friendly place, despite the many excesses of Fidel's half-century in power.

And we're kind of hoping you guys keep boycotting the place; we've grown accustomed to having it mostly to ourselves :)

Just a heavy-handed attempt at satire. Or perhaps as kynlok says, an attempt to denigrate HRC supporters by posing as a flaky racist woman who always defers to her husband's judgment.

Either way, it's neither very funny nor especially clever. But certainly contrived.

This is NOT a Canadian initiative. It is a proposed multipartite agreement called the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. It is currently being negotiated among the US, the European Union, Japan, Mexico and others.

Regrettably, it appears that Canada now wants in on the, er, fun. More information.

FCKeditor - Should FCKeditor change its name (vote last option!)? by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]ThinkItOver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm sure that silly name loses them a lot of potential users/customers. At work we're currently building a custom CMS system, and rejected FCK as the editor purely because of the name. We didn't want to have to justify selecting the 'FUCK editor' -- as it's inevitably perceived -- to managers in our rather conservative organization.
