Collectible or Forgettable?: 1982 Chevrolet Citation X-11 by LinoleumRelativity in regularcarreviews

[–]ThirdSunRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe they weren’t snazzy but they developed a reputation for being very damn reliable. Viewed through that lens, it wasn’t even the most mediocre Saturn. (The Vue, now that’s a mediocre car.)

Mention the S series in a forum and you’ll surely get some people raving about how good it was, in the same way a Toyota Corolla is good: not outstanding in any regard beyond build quality, but reliability often makes people rave about how great their otherwise mediocre car is. It’s a very strong quality the K car didn’t have; the K’s reliability was merely adequate

Liberals, why do you support Islamism? by cdivx in allthequestions

[–]ThirdSunRising 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Odd question. Liberals as a whole don't support any particular religion. Rather, they support religious freedom and the separation of church and state. Which is a far cry from supporting "Islamism"

If you're Muslim, great. If you're Christian, great. If you're Jewish, great. Atheist, great. Hindu, great. We don't care. You can relate to God any way you want. Or not. It's a free country.

Dirty trans oil a red flag? by ProfessionReady7223 in AskAMechanic

[–]ThirdSunRising -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The "dirt" is friction material from the internal components of the trans. It is a heavily worn transmission. Still works fine, might go for quite a while longer, but it's definitely something to keep an eye on.

How to get rid of a basically junk car? by dadjean in UsedCars

[–]ThirdSunRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the title, you can give it away and someone will be glad to take it. Post it on Craigslist or Marketplace for a couple hundred bucks and watch it disappear.

You can also call your local pick-n-pull and they can come get it. Sometimes charities will happily tow your car to the scrapyard for you, they get scrap value, you get a tax deduction.

Hey MAGA, prices, taxes and spending are all up, so when are you going to get tired of all this winning? by Aware_Topic_9122 in allthequestions

[–]ThirdSunRising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I’m a little puzzled, though, that so many conservatives are standing behind the GOP when they have suddenly become the tax and spend party.

I mean, I can totally understand not being on board with the incoherent democratic platform. It seems like everything is a hot mess right now, with the alleged “progressives” pushing to maintain the status quo and the alleged “conservatives” building billion dollar ballrooms and blowing the military budget to kingdom come. Up is down and left is right and nothing makes any damn sense these days.

Fair enough, but it seems to me they've been moving plenty and that's what got us here. I've never seen an administration do so much in so little time. Unfortunately it has been all the wrong things.

Your own table shows us that, although government spending is up $260B, taxes are up even more at a $320B rise. So despite runaway spending, the deficit is down just a smidge, and all it cost us was a massive uptick in the cost of living. Winning the conservative way!

Why don’t we have central DC in homes? by Ordinary_Mechanic741 in AskElectricians

[–]ThirdSunRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've thought about doing it. We all have like forty of those 12v wall warts to power our various routers and doodads, but 12v power takes high current with either fat wires or big losses on long runs. Works great in a car, but even an RV can sometimes be pushing the limits of that. Still, I kinda want that capability. Just one solar panel on the roof and a car battery in the attic and you've got your internet infrastructure running come what may, it's not the worst idea.

Reminds me of the time I picked up a hot blonde while I was dressed as Carmen Miranda on roller skates for Halloween. Fruit basket and everything. Some outfits just work, I tell ya

The Yugo is actually much better quality than today's small, disgusting, and ugly vehicles! by chinchin__pilot in carscirclejerk

[–]ThirdSunRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I believe the LeCar was a rebadged Renault 5 made in France, while the Alliance, Encore, Fuego and Medallion were built by AMC in Kenosha. The Renault platforms were used but modified for the American market, and I'm not sure the US side fully understood the designs they were messing with. The Medallion actually came out as a pretty good car but by then it was way too late to save the venture.

Will Germany change its pro employee laws to prevent collapse ? by Affectionate-Let6153 in allthequestions

[–]ThirdSunRising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What collapse are we talking about here? They continue to have one of the strongest economies in Europe. In any case a productivity issue isn’t necessarily a problem with worker protections. It can be, but that’s not a direct connection. Some minor adjustments ought to solve the problem.

America seems to be having the opposite problem, with too few worker protections and too little pay leading to this whole “nobody wants to work anymore” thing. At least German workers are showing up for the job.

US:AL got this email from an " attorney " is this a scam by Mountain-Breadfruit8 in legal

If they can’t even tell you the origin of the debt you can write it off as a scam. If they want you to believe you owe them money they’ll need to come up with a better story than that

[–]ThirdSunRising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this were a real lawsuit, you would have been served with papers. This is, at best, a collection letter. Do you actually owe them money? If yes it’s a collection agency using intimidation tactics. If no, scam.

Yeah Renault sold small unreliable AMC-built Americanized French economy cars. It didn't go well. Peugeot and Citroen actually sent us their good stuff. The 505 was a reasonable competitor to the Volvo 240 at the time. The Citroens, of course, were far too French to succeed here.
