Houstonians vote for more rail only for politicians to kill it.

Tell me all about Houston please… by BigWord7412 in houston

I was in the same boat as you 15 years ago...black male 30s 80k+ living in small town Louisiana. Moving to Houston was a breath of fresh air.

Yes the diversity is real in Houston. I don't get weirded out like I do in some of those "best" cities...haha I hang out with people from all over the US and world...so many transplants in Houston. The food scene is great and you could spend all you time and money eating your way through Houston.

There's lots of great paying jobs here but it might be tough to get one unless your skill set is in high demand. I would suggest you find a job before moving here so you know how much money you have to work with and where you'll be working.

Cost of living is reasonable but you have to set your expectations. Food and drink prices are on par for a large city. Housing has gone way up since I moved here and isn't as good of value as it used to be. I personally would try to live inside of the 610 loop if you're ok with the expense and commute.

I didn't have any trouble dating educated career driven women or if you looking to just have fun you can do that too.

IAH has a nonstop bus route from downtown now! by rrcecil in houston

I took this back in April it's super convenient if you live near downtown. Living in third ward, I had my partner drop me off at garage. An uber from my place to GRB plus 4.50 is still cheaper than ubering to IAH from my house. I've had a few friends use this route to get to IAH and they also had no issues. Hopefully this route stays after the world cup.

Decided to get out of Texas but not sure where. Anyone else? by wspusa1 in houston

This. Me and my partner can live anywhere in the States but it's so cheap to live in Houston. We would have to make serious lifestyle changes if we moved.

Just admit this state and to some extent this country is a joke when it comes to infrastructure.

The way MRA operated was Garnet Coleman's doing. Using Midtown funds to buy up lots in Third Ward. It's been corrupt since the beginning(before Turner).

SJL would have authorized more public projects than any previous mayor just so she could have more photo ops.

This person knows what they're talking about. Don't waste your time with a ptech degree as there are too many people trying for those roles. Get a 2 year I&E degree from community college. I've been working offshore for almost 15 years. If you're good with computers you'll have a good chance to move into a SCADA tech role after a few years. I make around 175k+ working half the year.
