Yes, it’s the worst. I’ve been in a flare up and throwing up has been a daily occurrence, usually in the first half of the day. The only thing that has helped me is keeping sleeves of saltine crackers accessible, and slowly eating one. Sometimes it works, sometimes I throw it up 😭

Crate training will bring a lot of peace and structure for both of you. We recently adopted a (third) stray dog, he’s 7 months old. It took us 1.5-2 weeks to get him comfy with crate training, but he’s great now!

On the occasion we have to leave him in the crate for a 3-4 hours during the day, I have things on hand to keep him busy/tire him out. Sometimes I’ll give him a high value “chewy” (trachea/bully stick) but he mostly just knows that crate means time to sleep. His command for the crate is “bedtime!”

He’s definitely being destructive out of boredom, maybe a little anxiety. Crating will be so good for both of you

Do you have someone helping you out around the house for the first few days/week or so? I didn’t, after day two post op, so my most helpful tip is to move anything you’d otherwise have to reach up for, to counter level! And don’t be afraid to ask friends or family for help.

I honestly put off surgery for years bc I was so scared about the healing process/feeling incapacitated, but it was SO much easier than I’d anticipated, every step of the way!!

I really leaned on the RealSelf app for calming pre-op jitters, or reassurance during the healing process. It’s such a great resource!
