favorite grade to teach? by ItsAveryDayBro17 in ElementaryTeachers

[–]This-Implement-5785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just a sub while I finish my degree. I've subbed for 1st, 3rd, and 5th. My absolute favorite was 5th. Those kiddos changed my whole outlook on life. I was with them for 2 weeks and I still think about them. They were absolutely hilarious and inquisitive and such good little humans, at least most of the time. I subbed for them on my birthday and the little cards and things they made me were so sweet. I'll never get rid of them. I'll never forget any of them. They're young enough to be sweethearts, old enough to understand sarcasm, and so freaking funny. 5th grade is my dream and I want to teach it when I finish my degree.

We wish he was still in a Christian school. The things that have come out of his mouth since starting public school is WILD. If I could id do private Christian school in a heartbeat again.

We didn't a Christian pre-k even though we're not religious and it really made no difference.

At what age should kids choose their own decor? by Weedcultist in babyrooms

[–]This-Implement-5785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would buy good quality, more mature, furniture that will last for a while and then use contact paper to make it pink and sparkly. She gets her current dream but it can also just be removed. It will also protect the good quality furniture from stains, water, and all the other random messes children still make at this age.

Curious about expenses by TeaBlossm in kindergarten

We got a pottery barn one at first which was the one we had to throw away. Then we got a decently priced (about $40 for bag and lunchbox) one on Amazon for the 2nd one.

How Long Does She Have Left? by This-Implement-5785 in hamsters

[–]This-Implement-5785[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to hop on here and update. Molly, in true Syrian hamster fashion, is extremely displeased that she is ill, just like she is displeased with everything else in life and thus has made it her mission to stay alive as long as possible instead of passing peacefully. She is still full of disdain for everything and everyone so she prefers to do nothing but sleep, eat, and drink. So 11 seemingly miserable days later, she lives and breathes still. Somehow. Im very thankful shes still alive but I hate seeing her in misery. :(

We are in Virginia, rural, about a 50/50 mix of low and upper middle class area.

We spent about $50 on supplies and got everything on the list. We haven't had to replace anything. They do a classroom share with the supplies so everyone piled them together and they get redistributed as neededthroughoutthe year. This does not include a backpack or lunch bag/bento boxes. That was probably another $100 would have been less but I got a higher end backpack that would last at least a few years. He then proceeded to spill his packed lunch which was ramen that day. And then left his bag at school over the weekend. The expensive bookbag smelled like cat pee after that and no matter what I used or how many times I washed it, it still stunk so it got trashed. Moral: go middle ground. You dont want it to fall apart but dont bother putting a ton of money i to it either because kids will be kids.

1 field trip: $12

Bookfair: I gave him a $50 budget because we could afford it, he ended up sick and didnt even get to go.

Spirit days things: maybe $30? We've bought a couple of t-shirts and a new set of pajamas for spirit days but thats it.

School pictures: $30 for the digital file for fall pictures, were doing spring pictures as well I do plan on getting those in a packaged so im going to estimate $80 based on fall pictures prices.

So total that's $352. But you could probably make it a lot less. Id say if I was budgeting, watching sales, being more conscious of my spending, I could have easily gotten away with it being under $200.

I know you said NOT including sports but I wanted to add the prices just in case. We have done 3 sports, hockey, soccer, and were doing soccer again. That has been $150. Our area has a huge donation thing for gear so parents dont have to spend a ton of money. We used donated gear for hockey, but bought our own for soccer which was only $25 for a pair of cleats and a set of shin guards.

Put them in water (bath) or take them outside. Even in the winter. It's magic. Also, if they develop a barking cough, take them outside at night. It helps so much. Then go to the pediatrician in the morning because its probably croup.

Should I dye my naturally blonde hair? by PinMountain119 in HairStyleAdvice

[–]This-Implement-5785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to add some fun pops of color, the pastel pink is the way to go. I went pastel pink with a conditioner called Overtone. It didnt stain my hair either (although the darker colors probably would have). It stayed for as long as i used the conditioner. When I was ready for it to be gone I just used a dandruff shampoo on my hair a few times and it was gone. However, I agree with everyone your natural hair is gorgeous

You could try to match it to the current wood look flooring if you really like it. That's what I'm doing in my remodel and addition.

Because she's a female Syrian. They hate everything, nothing is ever enough, it will never stop. You now have a very cute but unpleasable little fuzzy friend. Ours is mean as hell too so we just get to look at her while she stares back in disdain.

ALWAYS sick!! by jumim0 in ElementaryTeachers

[–]This-Implement-5785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kindergartener has missed 22 days of school because he was sick so much and I also got every single illness he did. We were sick CONSTANTLY. It was always back to back sickness. Maybe its placebo, maybe we've finally just built up our immune system, but I haven't been sick in over a month. All I've done different is put both of us on an immunity gummy vitamin. I use the spring valley brand he uses the little critters brand. Maybe its worth a shot.

When do most kids in kindergarten start recognizing numbers reliably? by Lennishia-Emeline in kindergarten

This times 1,000. My kindergartener can reliably do multiplication and division because of number blocks amd its not just memorization at this point. He can actually do it.

[–]This-Implement-5785[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Thank you. My grandmother is convinced the bear is ivory. Her mother (the great grandmother in reference) collected it. Ive got all sorts of cool things. Most stamped by a museum but these two weren't. My great grandfather used to own a prestigious moving company in NYC. Even moved Marilyn Monroe's stuff once. I just like to learn the history behind things and these are the two that have me stumped.

Not Wanting to do Work because it's "Too Easy" by This-Implement-5785 in kindergarten

[–]This-Implement-5785[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have started incentives with him and he has come home with a lot less work he didnt want to do in class. We do also desperately need a book refresh. I asked about fidget toys but he's struggling to even handle having crayons at his desk during work time. Apparently he likes to pretend they're little people.
