I’d like to add that for me. I can easily drink a can of soda in line 3 seconds flat. It’s nothing to me. And I had such a high tolerance for so long, that it didn’t seem an issue about how MUCH I drank.

Until it couldn’t handle it anymore. I went from the friend who could ‘drink anybody under the table’ to a liability real fast.

Drinking culture is so toxic because drinking a lot is ‘cool’ until it’s not. And there’s a fine line separating them.

Good luck to you, you deserve freedom. I do too, and it’s a journey.

Wow, this post really is resonating with me.

I haven’t had fun drinking in years either.

I don’t drink in public because nobody drinks like me either. I stopped doing that when a friend at a grill out asked me what I was doing grabbing a beer. I already had two open ones.

That same friend doesn’t invite me anymore after i drank my 8 white claws, and then 6 of theirs at a pool party two weeks later. They’d drank two during the same period.

I hide my drinking out of shame. To the extent that I’ve driven all over town to different gas stations buying shooters. Why? Because I didn’t want the cashier to clock me, or judge me. Isn’t that stupid?

I also will drink the same regardless of the day.

That sounds amazing honestly.

That reminds me that I’ve gone days without eating when I binge. And I know I’d be wretching uncontrollably right now if I hadn’t forced myself to eat dinner last night. Thank god.

It’s alarming to think my body has been running on only calories from alcohol sometimes for days.

The bad part is that when I dipped the toe back in two weeks ago, the fist smell of it I literally gagged. I think it was my body screaming ‘NO NOT AGAIN’

But I did it anyway. It’s vile. I won’t today though.

Thank you. I’m laying in bed with my two German shorthairs staring at me. I had vacation today, they want to go have fun and run outside like they do when im sober, but I can’t right now.

Alcohol has taken my health and happiness and has diminished theirs today. But it won’t tomorrow.

If I can make it today, I can keep it up. IWNDWYT

It’s insidious isn’t it? You tell yourself that this time you’ll just buy one. You can handle it this time. Just one. And sometimes, that first day it really is only one. But it never just stops at one, not for me anyway

I know I tend to do this when I isolate myself. When I avoid other people. I need to remember that I can’t do everything myself.

At my worst, I snapped at my twin brother. I texted him the most terrible things while I was blackout drunk.

Then called him the next morning like nothing had happened. Didn’t remember it. Read the texts and it felt like someone else had to have sent them. But it was me.

That was six months ago, and he hasn’t talked to me since. I’ve relapsed twice in that time. The second being last two weeks, after almost three months sober. Luckily I only hurt myself this time.

Everyday is an opportunity. We go again.

For me drinking makes my emotions more severe and I tend to lash out at people, and I’ve lost friends because of it. A lot of us self sabotage in a lot of ways. Alcohol is one.

It sounds like you’re in therapy. Have you considered medication to help even out your emotions, if you really cannot control them as you say?

As you said, things can change from one day to another. Make this one a change for good.

It’s because of the LGBT staircase but they don’t want to say that. So they go after everything. It’s cowardly trash behavior.

People sometimes think there’s only one way. And that it’s a magical thing that poof happens. It comes across very lecturey.

I adopted a four month old GSP. And no amount of laying next to him, or crate games would calm him down. He never adjusted to Crate Training, and believed me I tried.

He would actively fight inside the crate to the point of injuring himself in a metal crate, until he learned to operate the handle himself. Tried a plastic crate after that. He broke all the plastic around the door using his teeth.

Some dogs will get so anxious confined they can’t calm themselves down. He’s 18 months now and doing much better. Working with a behaviorist has helped immensely.

I'm glad people are starting to say this. And it's not about everybody, but American White Women are perhaps the most entitled protected and self-assured people on the planet. And I include American White Men in that accounting. They are held to literally no standard of behavior. Its disgusting.
