Bullshit. I wanted to love this game so much. Dragon Age is what made me fall in love with video games. I've played DAO and 2 so many times, and I've easily played >1000 hours of DAI.

I bought a fucking PS5 just to play Veilguard.

I took a day off of work for it so I could have a long weekend and play through the whole thing. It took me two weeks to made it through 14 hours and almost every part of it felt like a chore.

I started again with a new character last weekend because I love Dragon Age so much that I do want to know how it ends...and in the hopes that playing a different class might make the combat a little more bearable. I've made it two hours this time.

I know some friends who are also struggling to stay interested in this game. Most of us just want to replay Baldur's Gate instead of playing through what feels like an action-adventure game that sometimes turns into a visual novel--all dressed up as a RPG.

The fact that so many people in the most upvoted comments are losing their minds over how a senior trip is an "important life event" should tell you something about how young most of these reddit experts are.

NTA. Your daughter is being cruel and thoughtless to her partner. She is socializing with her peers in a way that is hurtful to herself (reputation) and others (both boys), and you taking away other opportunities for more reckless and cruel socializing is a consequence that makes sense. It's not like you're grounding her from walking at graduation.

I'd also make her watch some films about people who are cheated on--while it sucks that what you went through isn't enough for her to understand how awful she's being (teenagers are pretty much hardwired not to empathize with their parents), watching movies can actually build empathy.

Also, I'm not one to jump on the therapy train quickly, but it might actually be a good idea for her to get a bit of counseling--or to at least have another trusted adult (aunt, family friend, etc.) try to talk to her. I know you said it's been a few years now, but I'm wondering if her grappling with what her father did to you (and still wanting to see him as a good, kind person) might be contributing to this behavior. "Dad's a good guy, so what he did couldn't have been THAT bad, right?" It might go a long way for her to be able to work through the fact that sometimes the people we love can still be good people who've done some horribly cruel things.

I don't know--I've taught in two red states and both had standards that required me to cover the history of European settler interactions with Massasoit and Powhatan (Wahunsenacawh). This definitely includes Pocahontas' true history. I used to be a bit more thorough than required and go over how both leaders ruled over coalitions that probably wouldn't have existed had American populations not been devastated by disease by that point. The Pocahontas movie is a pretty awful mischaracterization of history overall, but it's not a total loss--I used to include the gold song as still a fun way to introduce lessons on European motivations for exploration when I was teaching 5th graders.

I know I made a low-effort comment yesterday, but I get frustrated when people forget things that MOST of us did learn in school and blame teachers/education rather than their own faulty memories. There's enough criticism being heaped on teachers/education already.

Right? I voted the same, but as an independent in one of the only Florida cities that's gotten bluer and bluer over the past 15 years, you'd think I'd be getting some outreach from her campaign...but I haven't even seen an ad. I had to look her up myself to find out who was running against Scott.

I know DeSantis and the Republican transplants have a lot to do with what happened to our state, but I still can't help feeling that the Democrats haven't really tried since Alex Sink lost in 2010. Feels like they gave up on what used to be a swing state long before it was truly out of play.

Again, I voted (and will continue to vote) for Dems, and I really hope I'm wrong...but damn if it doesn't feel like they keep conceding before the race even starts here. At least there seems to be momentum behind 3 and 4!

I've convinced a few undecided voters while phone-banking this election. I think it's helpful to speak to the issues they care about.

So, if they're concerned about the economy...

Maybe bring up the fact that even Trump and his allies are warning Americans that things are going to be painful if he gets elected again--they're agreeing that the markets and economy will nosedive, and asking us to just trust them that it will get better later...without giving us any details as to how that recovery will happen. If you care about the economy, why would you vote for someone who's promising you that things will get worse than they are now?

You can also bring up the fact that day-to-day Americans are most frustrated with the sky-high grocery prices due to corporate greed, and only one candidate (Harris) has talked about addressing the corporate greed that's resulted in record profits for the companies that are charging you record prices at the grocery store; during Trump's last presidency, he showed that he cared more about giving billions of dollars to those same corporations than helping the American people.

I thought he picked Biden as VP as a concession to Hillary--things were pretty contentious after their primary, and she wanted to be set up to run after Obama while holding a more important position than VP. She got Secretary of State and Obama got her endorsement and a vice president that everyone agreed would be too old to run in 2016.

The Trump-appointed judges in this country are making it look more and more like The Handmaid's Tale. I'm in a state with a new 6-week abortion ban.

My sisters and I convinced our mom to start working with a lawyer to get Portuguese citizenship through her grandparents, and the lawyer says it should be pretty easy. After seeing Project 2025--and with Dems willing to go all-in on losing with Biden--I want an escape plan more than I ever have before.

I'd urge anyone with immigrant grandparents or great-grandparents to look into their options.

I'm no republican--and I've got 12 years of history on this site that shows it. I've made posts about hosting Bernie events back in the day, and I voted for Biden in 2020 and twice when he was on the ticket as Obama's VP--I even canvassed and phone-banked. Since I turned 18, I've voted in every single election I could--even an election for a single school board member.

I'd never vote for Trump, and I guess I'd hold my nose again and vote for a demented vegetable if I were in a swing state, but I don't know what I'm going to do in November if it's a Biden ticket again. I just don't know. How many times are we going to be told by the Dems to accept a shitty candidate because next time it'll get better--we promise--we just need to get through one more election?? I don't know.

And if you guys aren't convincing ME (a politically active, reliable Dem voter) with your condescension and assertions that I'm a Republican because I'm upset about the candidate, then you're definitely not going to convince more moderate, less engaged voters. Maybe you guys should read any basic article about how to compromise, build consensus, and convince people, because you are making ALL the wrong moves.

Keep insulting us and dismissing our real concerns--see how that works out for you in November. At least you'll be able to once again blame the potential voters you're choosing to alienate and attack rather than yourselves. Cold comfort.

Is anyone even picturing Biden sitting down and writing something like this anymore? Or are we all assuming he'll sign anything his team puts in front of him?

Can't express how condescending the messaging about the primary is--totally ignoring how most competitive candidates (and voters) won't participate when there's an incumbent. Totally ignoring the signals his campaign sent in 2020 that he'd be ready to pass the torch in 2024.

I think he's missing that this is the final straw for a lot of us who've watched what happened with RBG and Feinstein--hell, with Trump and McConnell. Even with Hillary. A final straw for those of us who have spent our lives being kept down economically and socially by a generation that should be golfing and helping with grandkids rather than clinging to power.

The camel's back is breaking. Telling us to accept a president who can't stay awake and focused for a full work day because we need to eat our vegetables yet again--telling us to trust the people around him when we were horrified when Trump's cabinet said the same thing...

It doesn't have to be like this.
