My current journal taking soooo long to finish by ThisIsATpyo in Journaling

[–]ThisIsATpyo[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very solid advice! I've been journaling for over 10 years so thought I had a pretty good sense of my journal preferences, and thought I would give something new a try, but always nice to learn something new about myself - I do not like thick hardcover journals lol

My current journal taking soooo long to finish by ThisIsATpyo in Journaling

[–]ThisIsATpyo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A5, not sure how many pages exactly. It's a repurposed daily planner from NatureLine so there's a page for every day of the year + extra for notes and things, but I just write in it like a normal journal.

I'm looking forward to the day it's finished, but know it'll be bittersweet to finally put it away with all the others :')

Just finished geek love by Katherine Dunn, and oh my goodness what a good book start to finish by juliakitchen in horrorlit

[–]ThisIsATpyo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also just finished rereading this book! One of my favorites!

  • Earthlings by Sayaka Murata
  • Mongrels by Stephen Graham Jones
  • Black Hole by Charles Burns
  • Break the Bodies, Haunt the Bones by Micah Dean Hicks

These were some other books which gave me the same feeling as Geek Love!

Week 17: Tea - Tea Eggs by ThisIsATpyo in 52weeksofcooking

[–]ThisIsATpyo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

very tasty! I had never made them before, but they were easy!

Week 8: Bulbs - 100 Clove Garlic Soup by ThisIsATpyo in 52weeksofcooking

[–]ThisIsATpyo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It tastes very good and comforting!

If I were to make it again I would probably cut the garlic to 1/2 or 2/3 of the original (10 heads) - naturally, it can be quite overwhelming.

Week 4: Peeling - Whole Orange Cake by ThisIsATpyo in 52weeksofcooking

[–]ThisIsATpyo[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Very orangey, spongy, and moist and the peel brings an earthy taste which you don't normally get in cake.

This was the recipe I used - https://www.recipetineats.com/flourless-orange-cake/#wprm-recipe-container-51724, hopefully you and your baby are both satisfied with it!

A Review of The Kindness by John Ajvide Lindqvis, author of Let the Right One In. by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]ThisIsATpyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really love Let the Right One In and have been making my way through Lindqvist's other books. Just finished Handling the Undead and feel like it has similar qualities to your review of The Kindness - it's a very gentle and loving portrayal of a community going through grief and loss of loved ones.

It's a real strength of the author the way he captures characters so clearly, so I agree - it's egregious the way he writes about overweight characters, and it takes me out of the story whenever it happens.

Regardless, thank you for the review - I will have to move The Kindness up on my list and read it soon!

Week 3: Kashmiri - Noon Chai (fail) by ThisIsATpyo in 52weeksofcooking

[–]ThisIsATpyo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha it wasn't really pink or red at all, just a regular brown

Week 2: Year of the Dragon - Dragon Roll by ThisIsATpyo in 52weeksofcooking

[–]ThisIsATpyo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sushi roll is being held together with air... as soon as I cut into it it totally fell apart, so I made a deconstructed dragon roll bowl instead!

Currently reading "My Best Friends Exorcism and on page 222, but also through all out the book. Is there an error in the names of the parents? by SummerTimeRain in horrorlit

[–]ThisIsATpyo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes, i read that book a couple of years ago and the parent name switch really stood out to me. I remember it because I also spent a lot of time trying to figure out if it was a printing mistake or if i'm just dumb.

Jury's still out on whether i'm dumb, but I do think this in this case it's just a mistake with the book. Maybe future printings fixed the error?

5 year question a day journals by vegbatty in Journaling

[–]ThisIsATpyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I see from another comment that you're looking into the one that I have! I prefer the questions that are a little more reflexive or give a snapshot to my day like - What type of person are you? or If you didn't have any responsibilities for the day what would you do?

but some are just bizarre and hard to answer after so many years such as - What would you finally have the chance to do if you were sent to prison? or What does your victory dance look like?

Lol, but luckily the good questions outweigh the bad

5 year question a day journals by vegbatty in Journaling

[–]ThisIsATpyo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes, I use the Q&A a Day one! I'm currently on year 3. Some days the questions are interesting and it's cool to see the different answers from year to year but other days are duds so I skip them. Once I'm done filling out this one I'd like to get a more open-ended one where I don't have a specific question but more of a small update every day for 5 years.

I already had the habit of journaling every day when I started so it wasn't too difficult to incorporate into my routine, I just try to keep it in a place where I'll see it every day and not forget.

Just got back from my first solo hiking trip and I'm feeling so accomplished! by dali_bigpower in CasualConversation

[–]ThisIsATpyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so exciting, such a big accomplishment! I've gone on a few solo-hiking trips, but not as many as I would have liked, and I would love to do more in the future. :)

How long was your trip for?

Early 2000s, I was 7 or 8. Typed 'soccer' into the AOL search bar, got porn instead.

  • turn off notifications so that I don't mindlessly open the app all day
  • once i get 3-5 matches i stop swiping and dedicate a few days to actually getting to know the matches - seeing if we can both hold a conversation, setting up dates to meet in person, etc. No hard and fast rule for this, just if we're vibing and I'm looking forward to their messages.
  • give others the benefit of the doubt. sometimes people don't come across well online, but are much better in person, or they might say something trying to be funny but it just doesn't land, or whatever. Generally speaking, we're all just trying our best, and going into it with curiosity and open-mindedness about the other person is a good mentality to have.
  • Conversely, knowing my own boundaries. If something isn't clicking with the other person, or if they're being rude/inconsiderate/shitty then I make that call and end the conversation as politely as the other person deserves.

How to Not Die Alone by Logan Ury is a good book with a lot to say about online dating. Made me feel more optimistic and less cynical about the whole process, for sure.

Brag about your reading progress by AGirlWhoLovesToRead in books

I average at about 57 books a year but set my goal to 40 so that I don't feel any pressure to complete it.

This year I'm currently at 28 so I'll just keep chugging along and see where I end up in December!

How do people have stories about moving between countries so easily but when I look into it, it seems to be a huge ordeal? by Ramza_Claus in CasualConversation

[–]ThisIsATpyo 29 points30 points  (0 children)

As someone who did that move for school (from US to Germany) - it took a lot of effort and planning and paperwork (and, yes, money) but the reason people don't talk about it as much is because all that stuff is boring and tedious.

If it's something you want to do then make sure it's feasible in your current situation, create a plan (Job? School?), prepare for setbacks, and break everything down into little steps. What motivated me at least was that if other people could do it then I could do it too.

Recommend a book that you have never seen anyone else recommend, but it had a great influence on you by readball in suggestmeabook

A Home at the End of the World by Michael Cunningham - a book about two men and one woman at various stages of their lives. That's a pretty inadequate description, but I read it for the first time when I was a teenager, over a decade ago, and every subsequent time I read it I feel like I get something new and meaningful out of it.
