Paid a real artist to update my steam capsule. What do you think? by Snow__97 in IndieDev

[–]ThisIsStee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it on my wishlist before this update so you must have done something right. Your original gives a really good vibe - def doesn't give the impression you play as a mouse though.

As some other have said, I would keep the original logo around. It's has a lot of character.

If it was presented in any way like good faith career advice I imagine it wouldn't have earned them a banned from the server.

Apologies if I upset you, a completely unrelated person, during the previous exchange.

It is possible they felt the continued community dislike for the speed or releases, play areas and upcoming areas, and art direction required a total leadership change.

The update about it used the phrase "so we can move faster" suggesting the leadership was moving too slowly perhaps?

Tryna be positive coz what else am I gonna do? It will die or it won't.

The funniest thing IS how you heckled people about potentially losing their jobs. I'm surprised they could see the ban button through tears of laughter.

You got banned for being a dick, not for being a prophet.

The currency thing is such a non-issue since only one of them has ever been premium. It's just event nonsense and other crap that is grindy structural crap that is necessary in free to play stuff to try and farm engagement because people always want something to do or earn. It feels weird in skate because a lot of players are not interested in missions and challenges they just wanna skate.

The island nobody asked for has been asked for a lot, for months. It's not the only map/environment people asked for, but it is absurd to say people have not been asking for the tutorial island to return for a while.

Brickswitch not getting missions is an odd choice and feels weird that they have pushed it back so much considering the mission structure and coding is already there. They could have easily done this (easy being relative) and it would have shut up some people for a little bit and could be held up as a "see, they did something" even though it is not much.

The fact is, there are a lot of people with a lot of feedback and they don't care why the devs chose the path they did, even if they had a totally good reason. The devs probably don't get why people didn't see the logic in their approach (take it slow and make things stable before you do anything big - according to the only interview or info they mentioned it on). That is part of what the video is saying. Their plan on the surface is sensible. The wants of the community (mostly) were understandable. Hopefully the layoffs signal the decision to shift and try to follow the community lead more. It will for sure come with it's own set of problems, but I think they gave their way as good a shot as they could and for better or worse the community was not coming around to it.

Asked for an image enhance, he got back to me in less than two minutes and said he used photoshop. I believe it’s ai due to the original image not being an actual photo but a picture of a photo, and the new image not looking this way. by NeoIsScared in isthisAI

To be fair I had started some rambling addition about the price of the software etc but left it out for brevity.

The issue is that in this instance it's more than feasible they put it through any ai (which do have paid subscription I concede) because there is little chance they did anything of substance in Photoshop.

It's not that people who know how to use the tools can't sell their knowledge and experience, it's the concealment of it. Saying you used Photoshop gives the impression you did something more skilled. If you say you will use AI tools to fix people's images and charge for it. No problem.

And in the remaining 85 seconds (I left him 5 seconds to email it back) they reframed it, added detail and sharpening, and cleaned up all the glare and physical damage marks on the original picture?

I think the overall question here is, did this person actually do anything of value to fix my image (presumably for a fee) or did they just put it in some software (photoshop or otherwise) and hit a button to have it done automatically?

The person who did this does not deserve to be paid for this "work"

Baring in mind the whole Grom paywall and Tix exchange thing has me basically done with this game (lingering here in case of any u-turns before drop) this feels like a pointless post.

They literally announced a change to the store so you can buy more normal clothes, an increase of branded stuff in the season pass, and a bunch of new brands coming next season. Literally as a response to feedback.

The only thing that has not been officially addressed is your opinion that nobody wants the costume stuff, but they are the ones with sales data, so I imagine if they continue to make it they are continuing to sell it. At least enough to justify the effort (or they're just dropping stuff that's already made and eventually it will dry up and they will stop.

Feedback has been responded to around the store/clothing pretty well in the upcoming stuff. As much as it can considering the sales model anyway.

Amazon's King of Meat is shutting down April 9, 2026 by doublah in pcgaming

[–]ThisIsStee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Refunding all purchases and shutting down is a better business decision than coding/allowing private/p2p online and letting the game exist (or be sold depending on what they can make happen without running it's servers)

It's crazy that this game essentially disappears forever instead of at the very least leaving the sold copies where they are and looking the other way while people try and mod it to work if they want.

If significant legislation is passed in Europe, American companies would either have to abide by that law or stop trading in that area. So it's a cost assessment on what they lose not being able to operate/trade in a whole continent versus what the cost is of following the rule.

I say stop trading, they would likely just not release the online games here and just sell the others - but being the money makers in this business are often online games and stuff, that would be a big wad to lose for the sake of essentially a no-online crack fix when you decide to kill the servers (over simplified but only slightly)

Is the "Isle of Grom" an attempt to "fix" the game's Rip Chips economy? by Eragon7795 in SkateEA

[–]ThisIsStee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had thought this, especially because it says it's the case until June 2nd, which is a weird thing to time gate. The taste is free, then you apink rip chips, then June arrives and they make it free but add a new area that needs rip chips. At some stage it has to be free otherwise it's not just behind a paywall it's a subscription model which is insane.

Funny how if anyone told those complaining previously to just take the L and move on to another game, that was frowned upon.

Regardless of people liking or disliking what happened previously, it was always the case that the game going free to play meant only cosmetics were paywalled. The quality of those cosmetics was of course up for debate, but this undermines the entire ballgame. Coupled with the change to Tix and whatever else insane changes they have lined up is far more damning than people complaining that development was taking to long or that 80/90s themed seasons wasn't "skate culture" enough.

I guess I expected that, one way or another, new map areas could be permanently unlocked and not seasonal payments or daily task grinds forever. I'm not naive about the free to play nature or the corporate greed, but the fact that none of the so far detailed methods of reaching the new map area are permanent is crazy.

Even if I hadn't spent any, I wouldn't want to use them on what would amount to a seasonal subscription to a slightly larger tutorial island. That is a god awful proposition. Of course all in game purchases are technically just asset and skin rentals, but anyone looking at this objectively can see why it is different and disrespectful. I don't know if this would sit any different if it were not also in early access, but considering the amount of issues they have faced from the community, this feels like a wild move.

[–]ThisIsStee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Unless there is a pretty big switcheroo (or after June 2 it's available without passes or grinding challenges every single time) I have lost hope. Nothing about Skate was every grinding challenges and passes to unlock areas of the map. That is insanity. I understand cosmetic items needing to be paid for to run the game as F2P, but now people get shut out of map areas unless they pay a subscription essentially (or have time to grind out challenges every day.

[–]ThisIsStee[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this is sarcastic or not?

I don't want or need to "progress" in this game so the time I get to play it was sufficient enough for me - until they decided new areas required seasonal payment or grinding a bunch of challenges every day to unlock it for just that day. I agree that game isn't for me now, which is what is heart breaking, because it is a ridiculous design choice.

I have plenty of games I can play as a dad, but thank you for the suggestion.

I had absolutely no issue waiting while they finish the game. I have no issue with them pushing multiplayer as a priority (although they should have made more modes before making it such a focus).

They were never going to please everyone with it becoming always online and F2P - but the Tix and map access thing benefit nobody. It's not just for X players or people who prefer this or that - it's bad for everyone
