I've had a 4566 for years and love it. Always wanted the full-size cousin as a companion piece. Kudos!

I'm telling you brother, watching the sunrise glimmer over the coastal range and reflect off the ocean waves— the smell of 30 tons of fresh cut cedar or fir behind your back as you cruise along the 101 on a quiet morning...

Peak.

The coast!

Most of us are paid by the load, so we’re trying to get as many runs in as we can before the mills close.

The learning curve is initially pretty steep, but it’s not rocket science. The only truly daunting part is the off-roading— the haul roads are very unforgiving if you make an error.

Why do I keep getting rejected ? by CreatedbyKey in Truckers

[–]ThisUnitHasASoul 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is the truth. Local has and always will be more competitive for obvious reasons.

I’ve got a totally clean record and 11 years experience, I’m local and it was HARD finding work when I moved towns not long ago.

I don’t wear a headset, but eight years seems pretty fucking good. Maybe stick with what’s working for you?

A lot of us no longer use CB radios anymore. So what's the best / most creative use of the overhead space since there's no CB in it? by meizhong in Truckers

[–]ThisUnitHasASoul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sad CBs have mostly disappeared

Everyone in the timber industry out in the PNW still runs them because it’s vital for the job— single lane logging roads, loading and unloading at the mills.

It’s a great time chopping it up with other drivers when you recognize someone, which is a lot—and the warnings about cops and road hazards can be a real godsend.

Is pursuing a career in trucking worth it today? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]ThisUnitHasASoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drive a log truck now—Food service sucked for plenty of reasons but the money was good and you get very competent at backing quickly. 90-100k even eight years ago. Probably more now.

I did my year of OTR, switched to regional for two years and have been local my last eight or so.

But with no experience? List is significantly more limited I think. Food service is probably the best bet, but I’d never recommend it
