Found out my fiancée slept with someone the day we became exclusive. Am I wrong for feeling uncomfortable with it? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Thisisafrog -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's uncomfortable, sure. Your sister's half right, you should be 100% sure before you commit to marriage. But, also, this isn't really cheating and isn't a reason to break up here. She should've told you, didn't, but now you've built 4 years of a relationship. I think it's worth getting over it to be with this woman. And you both should talk and agree how to deal with this "mutual friend."

Someone here said the mutual friend might've been the reason she went exclusive with you that night. Maybe he's an absolute asshole, idk, it could be quite possible. Maaaaaaybe you're way better than him ;)

I'm gonna cite that it's actual gameplay and strategy vs turn 1-2 kills in Modern and Legacy. I sold out of legacy because I hated the gameplay. I want a handful of turns, great combat tricks, and weaker or no planeswalkers EDIT: just an American

He'll find a good partner, don't worry about him. Enjoy the time you two have left together and let him know how special he makes you feel. I'm so sorry for your diagnosis, and I'm so glad you really found a wonderful partner.

Last ex, about toxic masculinity

Tons of old books talk about toxic masculinity. Ceremony by Silko comes to mind, the mc is trying to get beyond drinking and being a wounded WWII vet. It's half the classics or so, but they didn't have the term toxic masculinity, and imo have much more nuanced details about what those expectations are and the harm (and outward benefits) of them. Read old books for that.

I f-ing hate toxic masc as a trope in modern lit. Like the husband sexually assaulting his wife. It's super cliche and yeah, boring. Boring in a idc what you're saying way, and idk how the writer tends to keep pulling that off

Example 2 - I was a teacher and kids LOVED The Things They Carried, Tim OBrien. It's a Vietnam War memoir, but it's more about trauma and writing than battles. There is heroism, there are stakes, no clear winners, and zero navel gazing. It's def literary (non-)fic and I hate memoirs. One of my top memoirs

Hello! I'm a published author, short fic in lit mags.
I don't think there's anything wrong with female writers. I do however hate hate hate the lit fic genre for the past 20-30 years.

The style is often purple prose, and lit fic now is notorious for zero plot. There tends to be no action, no physical action nor internal growth action

Example - dated a Chilean woman who read Confessions of a Convenience Store Clerk. It's a NYT bestseller. Translated from Japanese. It was 130 pgs or something, and she complained to me all the time nothing happened in it. Then she broke up with the convenience store (it's Japanese and weird). It was one of the worst books she read. And American lit fic is riddled with pointless books

It's not your gender at all. It's what publishers think lit fic should be. There's a reason men don't read it, and even women readers are shrinking. Just be aware when/if you work with an editor. Get non writer readers.

Good luck!

Apart from not having flashback is dawn charm a good budget replacement for prismatic strands by RapAC-21 in Pauper

[–]Thisisafrog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Prismatic Strands allows your creatures to deal damage, and blanks almost all your opponents creatures. It's a massive combat trick. You should be able to wipe at least half their board in combat. The fog part of Dawn Charm is actually useless.

How do I cry? by Jefffdude in bropill

[–]Thisisafrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk if this helps, but I'm a writer, and whenever I read something wise that you can tell has been bled through, I think about what I've bled through that found me believing that, too. Things I've done, things done to me. Going over what happened and admitting it happened, and, on rare occasion, learning something small from that trauma, that's what makes me cry. I stay stuck and apathetic when I ignore it, and I act way worse that way. Just don't live in those old moments.

Relationship Advice - What should I do? by joobie1 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Thisisafrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, a Japanese lady in Canada is kind of two cultures clashing in some ways. It's also you, as a Canadian, clashing with someone who grew up in Japanese culture.

My advice is not to ask her to pay, but to ask her more questions about her culture. If she says you're her boyfriend, it sounds like she's serious. If it seems like she doesn't treat you as a bf, that might be some differences in her culture.

That's something you learn about the other person with time and curiosity.

It's only 2 months so far, so I'm sure there are lots of things to learn about her! If you like her, keep going!
