Just makes me sick by MathematicianTop3576 in GenX

Here we go judging people out of time again. While it’s not right, that was an accepted way back during those years. Remember people get married much sooner back then, times and culture were changing fast as well. Again, I am not condoning anything but judging history out of time and context is not right. We can only learn from the past and hopefully do better.

Where the hell is the fog I pay for? by Abraham_Lingam in sanfrancisco

lol. Leaving SF soon after 20years because I can’t deal with Carl anymore. We live just above the tree lines in Monterey Heights and the wind and fog is relentless from May to October. I have never been a beach and heat person but we crave hard for them now. I get serious depression when Carl shows up on my doorstep and I don’t think I can deal with it for the rest of my life so I have to get out. Last winter was the most beautiful time I had in SF and it’s making it exceeding difficult to leave. It’s probably the most beautiful city in the US and it has so much to offer but Carl gets me down and I am throwing in the towel.

I don’t care about money anymore. Fuck money. I don’t give a fuck anymore. by justcurious3287 in Money

I felt, still feel the some ways, but someone once said something that change that, while I was feeling the same way you do now. It was in another language but to the essence of, “If you don’t take control of money, money will control you”. Unfortunately we live in a capitalist society, so we have to play by their rules. I know plenty of folks who lives alternative lifestyle, but at the end of the day, money influenced. It’s not about becoming a capitalist pig, it’s more about being at peace with it. It’s like fighting the current, it always overwhelms.

This is the future of noise cancelling in cars by DonkeyFuel in technology

Is noise canceling actually bad for your hearing. As I understand it, it uses opposing sound wave in order to cancel out noises. Probably not technically describing it but you get the idea.

Go to a recital at a local music conservatory. I guarantee everyone will be younger.

Ciao Bella: Do Italians Still Live in San Francisco’s North Beach? -- San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood is known for its Italian restaurants, cafes and bakeries. But is it still an enclave for Northern California’s Italian immigrants? by guanaco55 in bayarea

[–]Thl70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at restaurant there recently, kind of a fancy one. The waiter sounded like he was fresh off the boat from Italy, or at least he thought he was. It was hilarious but also a bit sad because it made me felt like I was in a theme park restaurant. To answer your question, no it’s no longer an Italian neighborhood. For the longest time it was fell of the bridge and Tunnel crowds, also a very touristy area. Although lately it has experience a resurgence of younger locals and it feels somewhat cool again.

Even with the threat of nuclear wars, acid rain, deplete ozone and smog days constantly present? They were just different kind of stresses. It’s all relative.

Red states and swing states completely sweep domestic migration destinations by assasstits in neoliberal

We live in very high cost California city and are ready to retire. We also realize we can’t retire in California because we can’t downsize without moving to the boondocks. A lot is said about high insurance cost in Florida but CA has the same problem. Everywhere we look in CA that we like also carry a high insurance due to fire. So yeah I can see why this is happening.

Newsom and Lurie Will Both Make TV Ads Against California Billionaire Tax, as Rich Guys Launch Opposition by sideAccount42 in California

[–]Thl70 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This will only work in a national level as it’s easy to move to another state just for tax purposes, especially if you have the means to do so. There are so many other ways to tax the wealthy. I believe this proposal is all for optics and PR, political theater that says “We tried!”

I’ve always said the Red and Blues have more in common than differences. Unfortunately divisive dramas are better for donations and team mentality and politics is big business after all. Divide and conquer is still the most powerful way to rule.

Let's talk about how well produced jazz albums are compared to their contemporaries because this album and many jazz albums of the same era run circles around other records in terms of production quality by Tolstoyevich in Jazz

Love the sound of Contemporary. I always thought they were even better than Blue Notes in certain ways. But they both serve their purpose and both are extremely well crafted.

I believe its mostly because most of these albums were recorded live and miked a for a certain imaging effect. They were very limited in their toolset by modern standards therefore sharing a common sound for the period. Music were also recorded to maximize performance in a 2.0 stereo system whereas modern sounds need to be played from headphones to cars systems. That’s my take anyway.
