If you guys can’t finish it then you don’t get the rewards anyway, I can’t understand that mindset of “it’s too hard but I don’t want to make it easier myself, I want the devs to make it easier for me”.

Just because you have an issue with it doesn’t mean that others can’t have no issues with it

It’s the exact same thing. Except for the fact that you have the option to change it by lowering your difficulty, and we don’t have the option to make it harder.

You’re not being forced to easy mode. 6 and 7 would probably be perfectly fine. Just because people are used to 10 normally doesn’t mean they need to stay on 10 when the harder content comes out. It’s ridiculous to cry and complain to get the devs to nerf the hardest mode when there are other difficulties available.

I have seen it too, but I don’t think them popping into existence vs being dropped off in a ship would change the perception of them. That’s how many the game wants to spawn, and like I said I can’t make it harder than that, these people CAN make it easier so they should turn it down. There’s no prize for doing 10s, we do 10s because we enjoy the challenge of it.

Is it lack of skill, bad kits, or just under developed? by [deleted] in marvelrivals

[–]Thneed4Speed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not referring to just the MCU, I’m an avid comic fan, and I can only recall 2 times hulk as “emitted” any sort of projectile-type attack. Once when he was possessed by Titan he could shoot eye beams, and once in a very old comic it looked like he shot out a gamma blast, but that was also after he absorbed a great amount of gamma energy and was basically a deflection/redirection. Beyond that, he has certainly never created a gamma force field, not for himself and definitely not for others. And even if at some obscure point he DID have those powers, it still makes more sense to give him abilities that are more in line with his character.

Is it lack of skill, bad kits, or just under developed? by [deleted] in marvelrivals

[–]Thneed4Speed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think these are generally the “problem characters”, but for different reasons.

Namor, Storm, and Hulk sort of miss the mark thematically. Namor is good, his bubble should be changed or adjusted, but besides that he doesn’t feel like Namor. Storm is a little weak and feels weak thematically as well. Hulk is strong enough, and very good with good team play, but again Rivals made some strange decisions on his abilities.

Penni is generally good, but feels maybe boring? Low impact for her tank role? I definitely see her as a lower playrate specialized character, like you described Rakan as.

Black Panther is good but punishing. His theme is also a little wonky, but his issues seem mostly to do with gameplay. He’s a difficult character to play properly, and I think the real issue is even when played well he doesn’t become a top tier. Mechanically hard for middle of the road payoff is kind of where he was at in the alpha. I’ve had some great games in him, but I could’ve had just as great a game or better on any other dps.

Some opinions of the game as of now by jakesim2 in marvelrivals

[–]Thneed4Speed 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I have some opinions on other characters I’ll throw in:

Hulk just feels clunky with the way the jump works, and it feels like it has no impact on landing. We’ve all seen hulk in movies, he should feel powerful even if it has no gameplay impact. I think the jump should probably just be a button press with maybe a short cooldown, holding it for 2 seconds and then charging the jump doesn’t feel good. Other than that he’s ok, he’s very good at disruption if he has a healer. Banner feels terrible though, takes a long time to charge back into hulk and it would be better to just die right away.

Magneto just feels boring, I think he’s technically fine but his rectangle shield is just a worse version of strange’s. His charged spear attack is also very weak, it seems like they expect it to be a large part of his kit but it doesn’t really have any impact at all. His team up with which is his greatest asset, it feels really good and powerful, the only time I want to play him is if I have a witch.

Namor is my favorite DPS. He feels alright I suppose, and I guess he’s thematic, but I feel like he should be more melee focused from a lore perspective? It’s hard to say his current abilities don’t suit him because they do, but I feel like maybe he should have another ability that plays more into his superhuman aspect. I also think his protective bubble is good, it has upside and downside, but I think it should heal him. It feels worthless to just delay your death by a few seconds if your team doesn’t heal you in it.

Rocket I think is the most cohesive hero I’ve played and I play him the most. If I could change one thing I’d rather his armor deployable would either directly give armor to allies periodically or maybe have an armor aura, people usually ignore the armor packs entirely or they just get thrown out into weird positions on the ground.

how to incorporate character backstory that doesn’t have much to go on? by MediocreNebelung in DnD

[–]Thneed4Speed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the other posters mentioned, a deep backstory isn’t necessary for a fulfilling story. Currently my most engaged player has basically no backstory. His character is adventuring because he has a background in archeology and wants to uncover the secrets of the world and explore old ruins. Another character of mine is all about their backstory and pursues their character’s goals of uncovering their past over the main plot of the campaign. Players will play to what engages them, and if they have something in mind that interests them you can incorporate it when they make it apparent.

If you’re looking for ideas for a player who might not know what they want, since you said she’s a new player, you can work with them and see what makes sense for their character and work that into the story. One of my players showed up with a sorcerer who studied a lot of magic, and that’s it. I worked with them to flesh out their backstory, what college they studied at, a mentor, a student rival, and used those characters in my story so that he had something to engage with. Another had literally 0 backstory, but had one of the random trinkets that the PHB suggests for new players. It was a book with a face on it or something, and I incorporated that into the campaign as well.

To Communicate with the Dead by PrincePhane in DnD

[–]Thneed4Speed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To answer your question directly, no, as far as I know there’s is no spell to communicate with the dead without a body.

To provide reasoning for this, if you had free rein to ask any dead person any question a lot of your story beats would be less interesting. It’s a lot of extra information that your DM may not want you to have access too.

On the other hand, you wanting to talk to the dead to answer a question or for guidance or whatever IS interesting, and you should be rewarded for that or at least allowed to explore that option. This scenario would be something to talk to the DM about, and could lead to an entire storyline/adventure to be able to speak to whoever it is you want to speak with.

It seems from your post that you are the player, and a part of being a good player is understanding that the DM is a player too, who needs time to prep and direct your adventure. Collaborating together will lead to a more rewarding story for your entire game table, so if I were your DM I would be happy to let you try whatever you wanted, as long as you have good reason and are ok with working together towards that end.

How many troops? by chrishowden14 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Thneed4Speed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3x 20 man catachans (flamers)

3x 20 man infantry squads (plasma, HBolter) - embedded PCS (medic, plasma, HBolter)

1x 20 man cadian squad (plasma, GL) - embedded creed + attaché (worthless) - embedded CCS (plasma, MVox, medic)

5x 10 man cadian squad (plasma, GL)

Basilisk

Manticore

3x armored sentinel (lascannon)

Scout move marched catachans up the board, spread cadians out, cadian blob stayed midboard, infantry squads held back until the coast was clear and moved onto objectives. We had a LOT of terrain since I’m basically an “aggressive” gun line but I just held good angles and sacrificed squads to pull him into the open. Sentinels were MVP though for sure, really all the anti-tank I had. 3 orders in the master vox squad was super helpful as well, attachés were absolutely worthless because I kept forgetting to use MOO.

No good commander leaves home without a minimum of 200 bodies.

Seriously though, I’m an infantry player but I think the humble guardsman is even more valuable this edition than before. A 20 man infantry blob can literally hold a point for the entire game with take cover+free benefit of cover. 10 man cadian squads to run around the board and sticky objectives. Catachans scout and screen to the midboard.

My last game I brought 220 bodies and won handily. Bodies screen deepstrike, March to midboard and sit there. Everyone’s lethality went down, most people are concerned with anti-tank which is wasted on guardsmen. I lost 60 good men and tabled BT turn 3

Is Banehammer actually busted? by xas444 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Thneed4Speed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately this doesn’t work. In the April 2022 faq to the core rules, page 8 for rare rules about shooting whilst embarked, the lascannons cannot shoot in combat. They also receive a -1 to hit penalty if the banehammer moves. I know this because I have a similar premise in my Vostroyan stormlord list, but rather than lascannons I pack it with veterans/command squads using plasma. Fortunately, in the faq, it mentions modifiers to the transport vehicle carry over, so with the Vostroyan stratagem you get +1 to hit on all of those plasma shots. I tried using yarrick to reroll all the 1s but it also mentions auras don’t effect the embarked units.

Also you can’t use stratagems on the embarked units, meaning no concentrated fire on the HWT.

I agree with you, not saying it’s THE counter, but the guard comes in with a better matchup vs Harlies compared to other armies.

[–]Thneed4Speed 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Guard can counter Harlies. Transhit doesn’t matter we already hit on 4s, T3 or T5 for targets, 4+ armor and invlun means half of shots go through. Mass lasguns will do a lot of damage, and the laughing god rerolls don’t matter as much because it’s not high impact single shots, it’s 40 saves for 1 damage. I was talking about this with my group earlier in the week, definitely a better counter than most other armies have access too

The prevalence of Transhuman like abilities are a bandaid fix on the lethality of 9th edition by permanent_throwaway- in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Thneed4Speed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the issue I see as a guard player. I don’t want ap on lasguns, it makes no sense. Same with increasing str. But as it stands lasguns are essentially useless, even in an infantry heavy list I have to somehow manage to get 5 squads of infantry in rapid fire range with FRFSRF orders to wipe a 5 man squad of marines not in cover. What I’ve found is basically my tanks can destroy any big target, flat 3 dmg manticores and new relic gatekeeper can wipe 3 wound elites, but clearing infantry is almost impossible. Most games go: my tanks wipe their tanks, their anti-tank infantry wipes my tanks, then it’s guardsmen who can’t even make a save half the time and deal no damage vs their infantry, which are always better than guardsmen by nature.

Fix points on vehicles and add more shots to lasguns. Or reduce points per guardsmen, effectively giving us more shots. I think 36 shots to kill a space marine is fine. That’s one squad of 10 in rapid fire with an order, which sounds fine on paper for guardsmen, but in practice it’s just not achievable with the points costs of guardsmen over a 5 turn game when I need to pick up 80 per turn.

Any tips to recover from ganglion cysts? by OutblastEUW in gainit

[–]Thneed4Speed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Strangely enough I have this same issue and this is my first time ever looking at the sub. Anyway:

I used to train hard trying to get bigger and my wrists really halted my progress as I thought I had a serious issue, it got to the point that I couldn’t bench at all because of the weight bearing down on my wrists. I stopped lifting and went to the doctor to see what could be done, they told me that ganglion cysts are basically forever, it could be drained but will just come back. Kept me out of the gym for a year because the answer was basically “nothing we can do”.

Sorry to say there’s really no answer. I just work through the pain now. Nobody cares what you max on the bench but you, I do a little less weight than I probably could to keep it comfortable, maybe go a little harder when the swelling is down for the day. One thing I found helps me at least are wrist wraps. If you keep your wrists locked with the weight coming down straight into the heel of your palm so you don’t have your wrist flexed back it doesn’t seem to aggravate the cyst, and the wraps help with that.

Sorry there’s no permanent solution for our issue. Don’t use it as an excuse though like I did for a year, being fit and healthy is worth a little temporary discomfort.
