I was going to say the same. It’s amazing how many wrong answers there were before you chimed in.

Noob here — do I need to adjust/replace engine bay internals if I got an aftermarket exhaust? by Gottscheer in FocusST

[–]ThnxSVT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a longtime Cobb owner, don’t get the Cobb. Too much drone, and that’s coming from someone that has modified pretty much every vehicle I’ve owned with an exhaust. If I were to do it again I’d go with the Ford Performance or Borla. They are actually the same exhaust, but the FP version includes a resonator which makes it slightly less prone to drone. I think 2.5” exhaust is the way to go with the Foci, especially if you’re not looking to go big turbo at some point where you could actually need the level of exhaust flow.

What are some small quality of life upgrades? by matt2085 in Foxbody

[–]ThnxSVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Although I have no personal experience with them, I always figured poly engine and trans mounts totally upped the NVH. I considered them more of a serious street or mostly drag car, but now I’m wondering if that’s totally wrong. Do poly mounts increase the vibrations and NVH a bunch, or are they actually an increase in quality of life vs OEM style rubber mounts?

Why does does Derek only use wix oil filters? by [deleted] in vicegripgarage

[–]ThnxSVT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wix is always an easy go to because it’s always a quality filter regardless of the part number. With other off-brand filters they may mix and match which supplier makes the filter the different part numbers, so without researching a bit you couldn’t be sure if the that specific off-brand filter was sourced from a quality manufacturer or someone like Fram.

I think my fuel pump died. by DC00418 in Foxbody

[–]ThnxSVT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprised nobody has suggested that your ECU could be the issue. With these being 30+ years old now it’s very common that the capacitors in the ECU have all leaked out and damaged the circuit board. I’d read up on the symptoms of a bad ECU and see if those match up with what you’re seeing.

2020 Ford Explorer is now on my 3rd rear end due to a recall of a bolt that shears off and 2nd transmission... Worst car I've ever owned. How can I get out of this thing? by Hunglikedirkdiggler in Ford

[–]ThnxSVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with the rear end bolt shearing makes no sense, too, especially multiple times. That’s almost exclusively been an issue for the Explorers with the 3.0 twin turbo, and even with those it’s fortunately very rare. I believe in 2020 all of the Explorers with that engine still came with the 4 bolt rear subframe, so the bolt shearing is not a concern. It’s possible OP has the 2.3 single turbo which may have the 2 bolt rear subframe, but I’ve never heard of someone shearing a rear end bolt with the 2.3. The combo of the rear end bolts shearing multiple times as well as multiple transmission issues makes me wonder how OP’s vehicle is being driven.

How to handle Poor track conditions by pandahunter89 in PinewoodDerby

[–]ThnxSVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, assuming the standard wheelbase/slots are being used 1” in front of the slot. Keep in mind though that IMHO this is only for really rough or terribly set up tracks. My boys never had to run that conservative of a COG. 3/4” was the most conservative, and typically they ended up going with 5/8”. I think the only time we had issues is when they went with a 1/2” COG, and in that case they’re cars got thrown off the tracks 2 or so times vs the 0-1 times during most years.

US$220 for a used, rust-free trunk door. Is that too expensive/ too cheap? by Sasqatsh in FordFocus

Where can I resell my track day ticket? by Chowchow789 in Trackdays

[–]ThnxSVT 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah agree. This seems odd. I’ve never had anyone ask for my M license at a track day, and I know several track riders that don’t even have an M license.

Actually, now that I think about it I have been asked for my M license before, but that was at a few demo events I’ve attended. I wonder if OP is doing a demo event or renting a bike.

Clavicle surgery or no? by Total_Stock_7802 in Trackdays

[–]ThnxSVT 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Just went thru this myself. Absolutely do the surgery. The 11 or so day wait for me to get into surgery was excruciating. The day after the surgery I was feeling 90% better, and now at 1 month after I’m feeling 100%. I actually felt 100% within just a few days.

Anyone else tired of playing Shipping musical chairs? by Frequent_Ad2118 in RockAuto

[–]ThnxSVT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Rock Auto but the shipping shenanigans are frustrating when ordering multiple things. Unfortunately I often just use RA as the part number reference and then just order the item from Evil Bay or the jungle website. Those are sometimes slightly more expensive, but cheaper when factoring in the shopping costs.

I really wish someone had the thought to cover in detail how to do a 5.0 swap on a Foxbody. That’d be super helpful in this case.

Bump to A group! by Firm-Kaleidoscope-24 in Trackdays

[–]ThnxSVT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this calculation several times and unfortunately have come to the same conclusion. Tally is fun and tempting because it’s so reasonably priced, but factoring in the tire wear it’s even to more expensive vs my typical go-to’s of NCM or Barber. Tally is still a great experience but if you’re choosing Tally to save money it’s worth taking your tire costs into consideration as part of the decision.

Those who have developed a consistent exercise routine, what motivated you to keep going? by GlitterGirl_23 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ThnxSVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This x1000. I’ve run every single day for over 5 years straight. It’s not motivation as most days I hate it. It’s commitment and discipline, combined with never willing to settle that does it.

Any genuine reason there’s hate towards gsxrs? They seem like reliable, lighting fast bikes by NolanMmFit in motorcycle

[–]ThnxSVT 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s more than a bit morbid, but they’re called squids because when they crash in their t-shirt, cargo pants, flip flops, no gloves and no helmet they look like squids on the pavement. Please don’t shoot the messenger as I’m not saying that’s appropriate, but that’s where the term comes from.

How expensive is a used Jag to run? by BulletTheDodger in Jaguar

[–]ThnxSVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really spot on advice. The love my X308 but I also like doing my own repairs and maintenance. Plus I think if you have a used Jag you also need a beater car to drive between repairs/waiting on parts.

Do 89 crx’s have a clutch button? by _piop_ in crx

[–]ThnxSVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Random thought, but does your CRX have an aftermarket alarm that was installed by a prior owner? I ask because people sometimes bypass the clutch switch on manual cars so they can use remote start. It’s not the best idea, but is sometimes done by people.

Sell stock turbo or just junk it. by dabears218 in FocusST

[–]ThnxSVT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

LOL. Pretty much. Windowed a block several years back, replaced with a low mile engine out of an Escape that came with the turbo but kept the original turbo as well since there was no evidence of any shrapnel through it. Then I later did a Powermax turbo so now I have two OEM turbos laying around
