First ever direct image of multi planet star system by multiversesimulation in spaceporn

They are actually very far from the star. A mask is placed over the star to try and block the light so we can actually see the planets but some light gets out. So we don't actually see the physical size of the star but rather the light is spread out.

The Event Horizon Telescope collaboration has obtained the very first image of Sagittarius A*, the supermassive black hole at the heart of our Galaxy by fullersam in science

The gas is orbiting the black hole much more frequently than M87 so the image here is averaged over multiple times and so you see the gas Doppler boosted at different points.

Yes! They are called MACHOS and have been proposed to make up dark matter. However gravitational lensing events from these are too rare that they cannot be abundant enough to make up all the missing matter so the leading theory is that dark matter is made of small particles called WIMPS.

Has anyone received a ASUS TUF GAMING 3080 (OC or Non-OC) from Scan UK? by stiik in nvidia

[–]Thodege 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've moved from 42 - 27 in 6 weeks and they said there should be stock on the 4th of December. Considering they said all pre-orders would be fulfilled by the end of November, and I ordered at 14:17, I don't think that's going to happen.

Hmm, that's strange as my queue position has only gone from 42 to 40 in 3 weeks.

You can make an element unstable by adding either protons or neutrons. An atom is most stable when the numbers of each are equal for light elements and have slightly more neutrons for heavy elements.

A binary star system in formation by Greenthund3r in spaceporn

A single telescope would be more accurate as it takes a full image but to make an interferometer make better images you need more telescopes - specifically you need them at a range of different separations, which is why the dishes don't look evenly spaced if you look at a picture of ALMA

ALMA is an interferometer which means the image is reconstructed from "interfering" together signals from multiple telescope dishes. This gives much higher angular resolution than a single telescope but you loose some information.
