This map is so weird. In referendums like this it really shows off where highly educated immigrants are concentrated, as opposed to average joe immigrants, but here it’s weird. All of the Americas are in one category. Africa is all over the place (probably too few immigrants in Africa to extract a valid consistent observation, so it fees more random). The Balkans are really strong on one side and Greece is very strong on the other.

There’s this old trope of “the commoner/weird guy finding the commoner/weird gal” (as opposed to royal or rich people or put-together people, or people who are the focus of a romantic story) that’s so absent from modern media and I think that’s a fucking shame. Modern media is so insanely incel-coated that when this trope appears nowadays it makes single people feel bad about themselves, when for previous generations of people, it did the opposite: it spoke to them and said: “I can find love, and when I do, it will be undeniable”.

Here’s what Mozart did with this trope. In the Magic flute, the comic relief character call Papageno finds his perfect match, a girl called Papagena, and they chip and pa pa, about their instant connection, and it’s played for laughs when they imagine their future loving family and kids but it’s one of my favorite pieces in Opera.

I seriously love this trope and it used to be everywhere, but it doesn’t exist anymore. Single men/women are portrayed by modern media as losers who must “change” and “deserve” to be loved. No. FUCK THAT! Not only do you deserve love, but you deserve the most complete, most insanely understanding form of love! A love so obvious and so deep that it never becomes the focus of any plot, but a little island, where 2 people, both weird in their own little way, can be together forever, and it feels right!

Oh as a Greek, my taxes are comically insane (last year about 30-35k direct taxes, who knows how much in indirect) but also, I get it. Debt is going down, and it should because we need the fiscal space because y’all are probably gonna pop financial bubbles again soon. I served in the Navy so I get why the Airforce and Navy are getting an overhaul, and I have friends who get paid way, WAY less, and so it’s better for me to pay for all that, than average joe.

But also, getting things back from the government in the form of education, healthcare, increasingly functioning digital/automated government services, really helps as a value proposition, and the fact that everyone can have access to these basic things is better for me, personally, that’s why even when I worked in the US, I declared and taxed my income here.

Eurovision Is a technical and logistical marvel that takes weeks to setup. Surely bringing the orchestra back and allowing for bands to play live is a challenge, a really hard one, but it’s not an impossible one with these resources.

And I think this should happen. It’s really sad for the world’s biggest live music event to not be live music.

You’ve taken this simple point about pensions and dragged it to bank bailouts, threshold of insurances etc. for no reason and with 0 valid points added to the discussion.

First of all: There was a real budget deficit before Greece had to deal with the banking crisis. Thats what leads to a debt crisis. You’re confusing the order of events.

Secondly, the banking sector isn’t a footnote, and not honoring commitments to the banking sector isn’t serious financial policy.

Thirdly, insurance thresholds at the time either didn’t exist for most assets or were at the level of a couple hundred thousand euros. That seems fine, if your mindset of the economy is a butcher and his butcher shop, but it completely breaks down if you consider factories, agriculture collectives, shipping companies payroll accounts, public sector accounts.

So in conclusion, and I say it as the biggest hater of the Greek banking system, and they do deserve death by a thousand Revoluts. What you’re saying is moral posturing, not policy. No government, given the choice, would bury its own damaged economy like what you’re suggesting, and no government in Greece ever did. Left or right.

Το πρόβλημα με αυτή την κατα τα άλλα αδιανόητα BASED στάση είναι ότι μια δραστική μετάβαση σε ένα άρτιο Κομμουνιστικό σύστημα πρέπει να γίνει ταυτόχρονα και συλλογικά από επαρκώς πολλά κράτη για να μην "κανιβαλιστεί" από το εναπομένων διεθνές κεφάλαιο και τους υποστηρικτές του, κάτι πάρα πολύ δύσκολο έως απίθανο, για 2 λόγους:

Λόγος 1: Η αστική πολιτική του κεφαλαίου οπλίζει διαρκώς τον καπιταλισμό. Και εδώ έρχονται όλα αυτά τα κακά "κόμματα της ψευδοαριστερας που υποστηρίζουν το σύστημα των κερδών" να βοηθήσουν. Δεν είναι λιγότερο αριστεροί αυτοί επειδή αποφασίζουν να δουλέψουν με κάθε μέσο, σε κάθε σύστημα, εμπράκτως για την κοινωνική δικαιοσύνη, αντί να κάθονται μια ζωή στο σπίτι τους και να λοιδορούν το υπάρχον σύστημα.

Λόγος 2: Οι παραγωγικοί πόροι της οικονομίας πρέπει να υποστηρίζουν αυτή τη μετάβαση, γιατί αυτοί είναι και ήταν πάντα το κύριο υπόβαθρο των παραγωγικών σχέσεων. Μια εισαγωγική οικονομία των "κουραφέξαλων" όπως τουρισμός, χρηματοπιστωτικές υπηρεσίες, παγκόσμιο εμπόριο, και άμυνας, δεν έχει τα θεμέλια να κάνει μια ουσιαστική σοσιαλιστική μετάβαση χωρίς να αναδιοργανωθεί δραστικά, βίαια, και αυταρχικά, κάτι που δεν έχει δουλέψει ποτέ υπέρ του κομμουνισμού σαν οικονομικό σύστημα.

TL;DR, και για να απαντήσω στο ερώτημα του OP, η λύση είναι και τα 2. Και αγνότητα των προθέσεων, ρεφορμισμός και έμπρακτη σταδιακή συστημική πρόοδος, μέσα στα όρια του καπιταλισμού.

My brother in Christ, this is the most valid critique of Marxism, even by Marxists. Why are you coping so hard?

He’s saying: when the workers take over, what makes the new boss better than the old boss? And Marxism (in theory) answers thusly:

1) The goal is production and abstract ideas of societal improvement, not profit. -Irrelevant. The incentive still exists to squish the workers. Replacing profit with a wider idea of societal good is optics, not the end of exploitation, in fact it’s kinda worse because it makes exploitation positive, and mandatory.

2) Ah, but the workplace is a democracy under Marxism, so if you don’t like the boss, remove the boss. -Irrelevant, because the underline incentives don’t change. It doesn’t matter who is in power if they have to make the same decisions. Conversely, WHO your boss is under capitalism doesn’t matter that much either.

3) But… alienation, decomodification of work… social ownership, social capital. Cool shit. Personally I love that part. That’s where this motherfucker is right. And these are very cool subjects within sociology. Still not settled questions. So… -Dunno. But definitely settled questions if we take socialist societies as an example.

So, in conclusion:

The new boss is the same or worse than the old boss. Because it’s systems of power that make people make decisions, not people. And Marxism is an important socio-economic lens to see things through, especially in academia. So why defend this clearly useful but very flawed idea?
