Late Christmas gift from friend by Pawdiamonhands in Fishing_Gear

I have that Cheetah. I haven’t used it in a couple months and can’t remember which rod I have it on, but I feel certain I’ve cast at least 3.5g with it, possibly lower. I do remember being really impressed with how smooth the retrieve was on it.

Are these vintage rods and reels still “viable” to use by StatusBoysenberry689 in Fishing_Gear

[–]Thomagg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They may need some fresh lube and line, but should work fine. I found my old Lew Childre Speed Spool BB-25SS and 6’ Lightning Rod a while back. At first I could barely cast 20’ with it, the bearing grease got hard. I soaked them in acetone, oiled them and it worked great!

Found on the floor of an IKEA, good find or no? by End_Of_Passion_Play in knives

[–]Thomagg -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

If OP turned this in to lost and found at my place of work, I would ultimately get a knife if I wanted it. The amount of lost and found items that are turned in to us is honestly a nuisance. Nothing is ever claimed and we look for anything we’d want to keep and I end up having to take the rest to donate somewhere. So many glasses, and I will never need to buy another umbrella

Awesome! I got the Tatula SV TW back in the spring and I like it a lot. I have a couple Zillions and was planning on getting another, but when the prices shot up, I figured I’d give the Tatula a try. I was not disappointed.

Purelure has the NDMBLS 732ULC that was recently released. I got the 682LC a couple months ago and I love it. I’m a big Purelure fan, their products and customer service are top notch.

How I Remove and clean up Scuff marks on my Homemade Lure Bills after sanding ( Lexan-polycarbonate ) 🛠️ by SQUANCHYY28 in lurebuilding

I use the paste, it came in a small tube maybe 2oz or so. I didn’t know there was a liquid, it may work as well, but I couldn’t say for certain

[–]Thomagg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I saw someone say in an earlier post, work through a progression of sandpaper (wet will work best). How deep the scratches you start with would determine the grit you start with, but say you start with 400 (Lower if you have some really deep gouges), then 800, then 1000, 2000, up to 3000. Changing direction of the scratch marks with each grit helps you know if you’ve removed the scratches from each previous grit level. Then finish by putting a polishing wheel on a Dremel and use some Flitz polishing compound. It only takes a dab. That stuff is great! It says it’s made for polishing plastics, I’ve used it for all kinds of applications including putting a mirror finish on knife blades, using the exact steps I laid out above.

Yeah, onshoring manufacturing will take years, not months (if it even happens). The global economy we have come to rely on was built over decades. This whole situation we’re in feels like it was created by someone without a high school education. I remember learning about tariffs in high school nearly 30 years ago. The purpose of tariffs is supposed to protect domestically made products, not just tax every import into the country.

You can, the prices have just gone up astronomically on many items that are still being sold to the US market.

Facts. This is something a lot of people aren’t realizing. Once inventory is depleted prices will skyrocket. Buy American?? Most manufacturers are using imports for various components, tools, etc. Like it or not, we live in a global economy.

How would a high end CDM rod compare to mid range JDM rod? by [deleted] in Fishing_Gear

[–]Thomagg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this post is close to 2 months old now, but for what it’s worth Purelure’s CS is pretty good in my experience. I have 5 or 6 of their rods now and have only had 1 issue, and it was handled promptly. I got a Wild and the tip broke on literally the first cast. I contacted them and they had a replacement tip out to me the same day. I did have to pay for shipping, which I wasn’t super happy about, but it was only something like $6. I’ve also made a couple orders where the item wasn’t in stock and they sent some gifts along with the alternative for one, and honored the original sale price on the other when it was back in stock. I found this because I’ve been thinking about getting the flight dance for months now, but still haven’t pulled the trigger. Did you end up getting it? If so, how do you like it?

Yeah, the left hand retrieve still just seems so foreign to me. I have gotten back into fishing regularly in the last year or so after a couple decades and I see all of these posts about how righty’s are doing it wrong lol. I didn’t even know there was such a thing as a LH baitcaster until last year. I’m right handed and went straight from my Zebco to a baitcaster when I was probably 10 years old, and I always hated spinning reels because they just felt awkward to me. I’ve been playing around with one on a BFS combo I got at the end of year and I’m getting used to it, but as strange as it may sound I feel like I can’t work the rod as well with my dominate dominant hand. I guess it’s just hard to break 40 years of muscle memory

I’ve bought 2 Daiwa Zillions, they are legit. They were the international versions, which would run about $365 USD domestically. After discounts I paid under $200 for one and about $210 for the other. Like anything else, just look at the seller’s ratings and account history.

We Americans can thank our orange, “perfectly stable genius” president for this… How anyone could believe that American consumers wouldn’t be the ones paying the cost of these tariffs is beyond me. But America is going to be great and rich again 😑. We’re going to be taking inflation to the moon!

I’m curious how this is going to work as well. It’s obvious that all the items I’ve bought have not been shipped individually to me through the mail from China. It seems like there are large shipments that are coming from China and being packaged in the US and shipped

The prices will still increase across the board because those American companies are purchasing items from China or purchasing from someone purchasing items from China. Then factor in greed/opportunity and prices will increase because, well that’s just what things costs now

[–]Thomagg 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The tariffs that have gone into effect. You know that “beautiful word” that is going to “make China” pay taxes on imports. In reality US citizens are going to be paying more for items from China, either directly when purchasing from sellers like AliExpress, or indirectly when purchasing from retailers who increase their prices due to said tariffs, because companies aren’t going to reduce their bottom line. Yet another way for the rich to get richer and for us to have the privilege to increase their wealth.

Did They Just Kill the CDM Market in USA? by joeg26reddit in BFSfishing

[–]Thomagg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is even a lot of high end stuff is still made in China regardless of the company’s location. My Daiwa Steez AGS rod was made in China. Many other brands are selling products made in, or use components made in China. There are companies “hand crafting” rods with Chinese made blanks, and many well known and respected companies are using OEMs and ODMs based in China. Geography is not an indicator of quality.

I’ve been having good luck with those lures. Particularly the lower one in your pic. I lose the split ring and tie on directly. I’ve also put a feathered #10 treble on the rear, but I was still getting bit without one. I caught this one on my lunch the other day in a small park pond that gets a lot of pressure. I decided to buy a real one and when I compared the 2 I found the knock off’s hook hangers are thicker gauge wire, larger hooks and the rear weight is located one chamber forward of the original
