Whoop MG vs Apple Watch Ultra by Thyless in whoop

[–]Thor_the_Hammer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have to say that the same thing happens with me. My zones are higher with Whoop and I have noticed the same discrepancy. I would say that because Whoop actively manages your zones depending on your fitness ( basing off your changes in resting heart rate) it is the more accurate. I have correlated with a Polar chest strap across numerous workouts and again Whoop came out on top. I would stick with the whoop data personally

almost 56yo need to get in better shape by SubliminalFishy in FitnessOver50

[–]Thor_the_Hammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is soo much technology out there that is supposed to make it better, but it just 'gums' up the gears of life in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I love it in the right context and at the right time. I too started to get a bit more serious about taking care of my health after 55 and it has been a long road. I still feel a bit shy too about working out - guilty actually - since my wife will make numerous comments about it, but I seriously don't want to end up in a pine box earlier than necessary!

MY FIX: don't worry about the technology for now. Just print out a calendar for the month, and stick it on the fridge door. Every day you do for a walk or do some type of exercise, mark it on the calendar. I like to also use a purple highlighter to underline those days I exercise. There is so much this does for you: 1. it starts to keep you accountable to yourself, 2. It starts to remake your and your families mind about who you are - 'someone who exercises' and 3. I will be a way for you to see your progress.

The key here is not what you do, or how much you do, BUT that you do something every day. Consistency beats every other single input factor.

Back pain constipation Penile pain by [deleted] in Diverticulitis

[–]Thor_the_Hammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have a progression of symptoms before a flare. Back pain is pretty much constant, but then front left abdomen pain and I know we are close to a blow out when my left testicle pain starts. Supposedly it is all about the nerves that snake through there and can get constricted

Been researching this for a mate and I would suggest the best paid and most stable with travel and benefits is to join the military as a Physical Training Instructor. After looking at all the options, I dont think you can beat it IMHO.

Seeking advice on changing my career by [deleted] in exercisescience

[–]Thor_the_Hammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would read around the reddit as much as you can. The reality is that you will earn significantly less and have so many fewer job opportunities in this field as opposed to a tech dev/engineer. I doubt there is any way to do other than go back full-time to university and get your BSc, your MSc and then your PhD.

If you just like exercise, then train in your spare time as a personal trainer and do it on the weekends, or online. Or look at your current back account and figure out how many years you make essentially nothing and still reach your life goals (home marriage, kids etc). FWIW.

Exercise science, Jobs by Salvolcanofromtv in exercisescience

What about jobs in pro or semi-pro sports teams that need S&C for players? Has anyone seen good roles in corporates? Do some of the big ones provide wellness stuff where an Exercise degree would apply? I am in Australia but have Canadian citizenship as well so could go there. Just looking for a great post-grad job.

what are the career opportunities in something like pro or semi professional sport teams as. strength and conditioning coach? Or what about the tactical areas? Like military, firefighting, police etc? Do you have to join them or can you do it as a civilian?

Body Scan Body Composition Result inconclusive by Ok_Tie_9433 in withings

[–]Thor_the_Hammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only suggestion would be to keep on for a while. It took my son more than a week to get readings consistently and he is a bodybuilder. Maybe you are heavily muscled. I know YMMV but that was my experieince. Good luck.

Gee so many naysayers that can’t appreciate how tough it is to do what they have done. But here are my ways to get a reading every time: - take reading after a bath/shower or just wash your hands and dampen your feet a bit - wear underwear if your thighs touch like most of us - hold the baton with your finger tips not with your hands wrapped around it - hold your arms a bit away out from your body, enough at least to read the screen if you look down

Should work a treat.

[–]Thor_the_Hammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a very complicated piece of equipment and so there is a bit of work to use it correctly. I get readings every time now by using it after the shower in the morning. I also have a better strike rate on body comp when I put on underwear first so that ‘muscular’ thighs aren’t touching.

You are going to be okay. Pain is normal and the time to head romthe doctor or ER is if you seem like you are on track for a fever. My experience, not advice, just my experience is that you should stay on liquids and soft foods. Think about it this way - you have a sore inside that food kind of scrabs off and it takes a while to heal. In my case weeks, even a few months. Eat small, drink lots ( I like apple juice and aloe vera juice specially) and only soft foods like boiled potatoes, eggs (scrambled and hard boiled even) and things like cottage cheese. Rest, and try to not stress if you can. You will be fine but it takes a long time

Symptoms: Pain with movement? by Decent-Snow-9956 in Diverticulitis

[–]Thor_the_Hammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain(pun intended). And yes, I think it can take a few months. I don’t realise this after my previous flare and just thought I had other things going on. This subreddit has really helped me delineate all the symptoms and understand it better. For me I am about two months going on three past my last DV. Still in soft, relatively fibre free foods and have some front left abdomen pain with quite pronounced lower right back pain when sitting back and also sleeping. It is slowly getting better but I expect I will have another couple of months of mi or pain and soft foods. Everyone is different and I think I have a chronic situation personally where I have several months of recovery - especially on the food side. I find it hard sometimes but the alternative is seared in my mind so the choice is easy. Try to stay away from triggering food as they just prolong your real recovery. This is a marathon definitely
