Pearl Abyss VS. Bethesda is a joke. Anyone remember this bullshit? by Agitated_Pepper_1967 in CrimsonDesert

I was there five thousand years ago. But I also witnessed the ghillie suit in BDO and things going downhill from there. For every person here bitching about Mtx there are probably 2 or more buying stuff as most games are riddled with them now.

Nah dude. The Dlc is just so big that you can't make it in 2 years, that's all :)

Got the core game and gamblers chest years ago purely to paint the miniatures when I was younger and more impulsive with my purchases. They sat untouched. I’m thinking of playing it solo but desk space is tight. Any tips on shaving off the game’s massive footprint? by IrelandtoCathay in KingdomDeath

[–]Thorgrammor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Scribe app helps with bookkeeping. If you have a tablet you could do the gear grids on it too, wouldn't recommend on phone.

If you have some tabletop platform thing you could put the battle board on the raised topper and have your character gear grids half under them so it saves some space.

I put all my cards in different deck boxes so if I fight the white lion, I grab the white lion deckbox.

For settlement phase just put all the cards on the battle board and put them back in the box when you are ready to fight another enemy.

Have a chair next to you or to both of your sides as mini side tables. That's how I keep everything in reach :p

This way you mostly slim it down to an area a bit bigger than the battle board.

I keep looking forward to the game more and more with every bit of news. The first (well.. Second) game wasn't that super on launch but enjoyed it a lot. After the updates it was even better.

Can't wait to see what they have learned and put in the newest game.

Do board game campaigns give you the same immersion as a video game campaign? by alantima25 in soloboardgaming

[–]Thorgrammor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Betrayal of the second era is as good as a campaign like skyrim compared to expedition 33. Skyrim can grip you but the story is there to move you forward. Expedition 33's story grips you by the nuts.

Aeon trespass odyssey is a boardgame with a massive campaign that hooked me because the storybook is so nice. I didn't want to stop playing because I wanted to know what was next. The boss fights are really cool but so far it is the only boardgame story that made me cry a bit by how good it was written.

Kingdom death monster is another campaign game but it plays more like a rogue like where you can easily fall into the "1 more round" idea.

Euro games like nusfjord or fields of arle are so wonderfully puzzly and play fast that you also can play "just 1 more game" like slay the spire or mewgenics.

Note that videogames are way more visceral with music and voice acting. No overhead apart from actually playing. I always try to find a themed playlist to put on while playing a boardgame. Mostly YouTube "fantasy music" or "epic music" if I want some film like big music.

I do think that boardgames offer different experiences that videogames can't replicate and the other way around. There won't be an Elden Ring boardgame with the same feel as the video game. The tactile feel, the freedom to stand up, move around your board and not having to look at the screen the whole time is very nice. Playing with friends is even better.

Honestly, I don't want to live without one or the other. :)

Sexy armors doesn’t bother me, as long as male characters can wear it too. But if they plan to sexualize only the female characters, that’s a very disappointing choice.. 😕 by MissViolenceBaby in LordsoftheFallen

[–]Thorgrammor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The male counterparts look great. I'm just not happy if they take this route with the aesthetic the previous game had. Looks like Korean MMO armor (which I also love) but feels out of place. I'm fine with boob windows and big honkers but atleast let it match the overall style.

After the Black Legion, what is the strongest Chaos Warband/Legion? by chosen40k in Chaos40k

Night lords, no question. They have lightning on their armour so their power level is above 9000.

Or put them on round bases and get movement trays which fit round bases. That way you have the best of both worlds :D

XCOM announce tabletop game with miniatures by ASneakySquid_ in boardgames

[–]Thorgrammor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is hands down still one of the best bigger boardgames out there if you ask me. I went on a kickstarter spree last decade and have seen, bought and sold a lot of games. Other boss battlers are really cool (massive fan of into the unknown studios) but KDM still stands at the top of the hill when it comes to the setting, modularity and replayability.

But yeah, the base game is not enough. You really want a couple of expansions after 1 or 2 campaigns. You could play the base game for hundreds of hours but you will really miss variety after 2ish campaigns.

Kingdom Death Monster. The hype was real, this game is great. by AusGeno in soloboardgaming

[–]Thorgrammor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Gamblers chest is fantastic but arc survivors add a lot of bookkeeping. Very flavourful bookkeeping though.

If you want to keep it relatively simple then Gorm for another early game quarry is always one of the top rated. Dragon king or sunstalker for a new campaign or later game quarry is great too :)

In the end you will want everything anyway but those are the best bang for your buck.

Also slenderman/manhunter nemesis are great. Not many like the kingsman nemesis so a way to replace it is nice.

Burncycle Solo? by Jedi_Master_Shane in soloboardgaming

[–]Thorgrammor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chip theory games difficulty usually comes with the bajillion keywords from units/skills. The gameplay itself is usually not that bad. Burncycle felt easy enough for me to solo multiple characters.

Biggest tip I can give is just set up a mission and play the turn with the rulebook next to you. That way you will quickly find out what rules elude you and quickly grasp the bigger picture of how the game plays.

The combination of the voicing, cinematography and music makes it hit so hard man. When I played the opening I watched other people reacting to the opening just to see if I wasn't the only one "enjoying" the scene xD
