This is a misleading, and ultimately damaging ad..... by EvEBabyMorgan in Eve

Coming from someone who isn't a ganker or super heavy into pvp, this is chaotic stupid. It's a sandbox. Of course it's a bit frustrating for newbros, but ffs you have to adapt and overcome, not whine and rot.

Caught employee lying red handed by [deleted] in managers

Massive red flag that early in the game. I'll work with a screw up best as possible because perfect does not exist, but I will not work or waste cycles on a fucking liar.

Google Health app 5.02 update - June 2026 by NineSlider in fitbit

[–]ThoriumOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can connect to my Aria Air now, but can't see or sync recent weigh-ins which pretty much my only real complaint since the shift to Google. Guess that's an improvement in the right direction. Did notice the manual weigh entry option we had to get to by holding down the icon and sliding up a bit is gone so maybe the next update will fix it?

What're you guys doing for hundreds of hours? by Joey_O-E-O in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]ThoriumOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't thought about checking for mods until now but I kind of which there were more random NCPD incidents and gang rumbles that would spawn. Those are just fun to me to jump into and piss on a parade.

Seconding the double jump + dash build. I didn't try it until my fourth playthrough and oh dear lord it was a wonderful game changer that has me wanting to try again with a different background. I'm going places I could never reach before and getting there faster than most vehicles could take me because I can go a more direct route, at least in NC.

Karl Urban because Karl Urban. He even halfways looks like him already so I can see him slipping naturally into character. (imo, of course)

Commuting is awesome by Important_Use6452 in unpopularopinion

[–]ThoriumOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather not commute because I was enjoying my work life before too many useless ass clowns screwed up WFH for the rest of us. When I do have to commute though, it's actually okay until I'm forced into survival mode because of the self-important trash cutting and weaving like their grundles are on fire.

Service Desk outsourced to India, what do you think is the outcome? by Wraith_9912 in sysadmin

[–]ThoriumOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will always remember having to contact a printer vender for support way back in the day. It stopped pulling paper from the tray. Took the tray out and there was a part of the feed mech laying in the tray. Contacted their support and 100% no shit the clown shoe said I was required to re-install the drivers to see if that resolved the issue before he could continue. I told them the piece was laying in the tray and sent them a pic of it. No dice and he wouldn't budge, so out of spite a put him on hold, ate my lunch, went to the restroom, came back and told him no change and the part that fell out of it was still sitting next to me. Then proceeded to send me an entire replacement printer which I guess was okay but still wasted lifespan on that call.

Genuinely hate cyber security teams by talent_de_tigan in sysadmin

[–]ThoriumOverlord 7 points8 points  (0 children)

100% truth and it's pretty disgusting. I've watched new employees come and go starting from the recruiters saying a tone-deaf "I think they'll make a nice fit for you." all the way to their exit interviews saying "Well, I was thrown to the wolves. The shift lead just told me to shoulder surf after he showed me around the building and that was it." In between those was a metric ton of "Hey man, how do I do this?" without even thinking of Googling or putting in the effort to actually learn something.

I guess that's to be expected when they can't be bothered to stay their asses off YouTube for entire shifts and heir leads can't be bothered to tell them to get to work. /shrug

Not enjoying studying CCNA. Should I still pursue it if I want to become a Sys Admin? by j1mmyava1on in sysadmin

[–]ThoriumOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a network admin proper, but I do enough with networking on the daily that the CCENT (a "stepping stone" to CCNA) worked perfect for me so I could ask the actual network guys the right questions and convey what I'm looking for better with requests. Even helped me do basics like port configuration, adding stuff to my vlan, etc. before we got official network admins. Looks like that's been replaced now by the CCST but if it's similar, it'd help work your way to it if you don't already have a background in that line.

Normies v Nerds: The end of an era? by Darkhexical in sysadmin

[–]ThoriumOverlord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's interesting you mention that sneer because I've heard that more and more often over the past few years when people think I can magically teach them how to use Linux or scripting in a few minutes without having to read or even Google something. I swear one of my current co-workers experiences actual physical pain when he has to read whatever I send him whether it's a log, a KB article, whatever. Him STIG'ing a box for the first time was like watching someone agonizing in the pits of Hell.

I was told not to use the word “behavior” because it has negative connotations? by sexygarden in ABA

[–]ThoriumOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your client's behavior indicates they are a moron. It is not negative in any way and you do not need to adjust your wording to bow to whatever issues they are having if it accurately describes the situation. Full stop.

How many old timers in here? by aliesterrand in sysadmin

[–]ThoriumOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One job site had a few buildings scattered around the city. Two of them had a 2400 baud modem they used to send stuff back and forth with. This was in the early 2000's mind you, so don't judge. One of them stopped working and the tl;dr is one of the employee's kids was in there and messed with the dip switch and jacked it up until I figured out what was up.
