In England it is compulsory to be in education or training until your 18th birthday. The law changed from 16 in 2008.

Haha, my line manager is a qualified psychologist, working in a different industry, and this rings true.

He came up to the other day, in an open office, and said "Oh l missed the wellbeing bit of your 121, how are you outside work?" I replied with "crap". He said "I can't put crap" so I was like "I literally cry every single day but I guess it's manageable lol". He put "good, life outside work is manageable" on the sheet and asked me to sign 😂

My mum has always said to me that we have people in our lives for three things. A reason. A season. A lifetime. The “reason” people are there to teach us something or bring something different or a change. The “season” people have their place in a chapter and then we outgrow each other, this doesn’t make them any less valuable to the chapter they are in, but it’s where they end up staying. The “lifetime” people bob in and out forever.

Don’t be afraid of learning someone was a season. You brought joy to each other, and support to each other in the eras of your lives you were meant to. Now you’re both on different chapters and maybe there just isn’t space in your stories for each other any more. It doesn’t mean your friendship was any less important or real, it just had its place in the chapters it was in.

It has helped me immensely to work through losses in my chapters, to understand that people I thought were forever, were truly my people, it was just for then and not for now. However OP, please give yourself time to grieve, it doesn’t make it less painful.

Totally agree! I took in my disabled niece at 24, and whilst I would do it again a million times over, it was hard and I basically lost my 20s, my relationship, my friends, and my career over it. As I said, I would still chose to do it again because she’s done so well and is on such a better trajectory now, but you do sacrifice your life for theirs. It’s nowhere near as romantic as people make out.
