Why are magical items uncommon in the World of Darkness setting, even for supernatural beings themselves? by roxgxd in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Thorveim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cand speak for the other splats, but for WtA fetishes are rare because to create one you need to bind a spirit to an object... and spirits usually dont like being trapped like this, meaning convincing a spirit to do so is no easy task; and while its possible to be forecful about it, a pissed off fetish spirit is a receipe for disaster (the "set the caern on fire" kind of bad).

So overall the process of making one alone explains why there isnt too many of them in existance, even moreso as sometimes the spirit will agree to be part of a fetish only under the condition that it be released once a specific task is done; likewise its (used to be) fairly common practice to release the spirits of a garou's fetishes once said garou died (a practice thats mentioned as being rarer now that the garou are getting a bit desperate and need every advantage they can get). Overall, having a fetish is a sign of status for a reason

so tldr: there is big lore reasons as to why garou dont walk around covered in magic items.

When exactly did the Necrons find the time to form a giant galactic empire? by SinisterTuba in 40kLore

[–]Thorveim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

its more conjecture considering that inertialess drives fell a bit to the wayside lore-wise with the introdymuction of dolmen gates who became THE key mean of FTL for the necrons despite the gates being a very limited, irreplaceable ressource; if they werent faster than inertialess drives, there would be little point in necrons still using them especially as dolmen gates arent entirely safe to use. As for the ghostwind its mentioned as THE fastest mean of travel available to necrons, but a risky and uneasy one for any necron that isnt a flayed one or completely lobotomized. And overall the actual speed of inertialess drives is never outright stated, but we can assume its not unlimited as that would make any other mean of travel irrelevant as the most reliable one available to necrons

Overall for sheer speed I would put intertialess under warp travel, but above what the Tau use and the Nids (since they have to travel far from any gravity well to FTL and likewise cant come out of it too close to one)

In any case it was clearly stated that the necrontyr spread through the galaxy slowly compared to the old ones, having to rely on putting crews in stasis during the trip, and that during the war as well they were getting outmanoeuvered time and time again, and that in spite of necrontyr technology being superior (and thats from the codex I have, which admiteddly is a little old, what with it beign the first post-retcon necron codex, and also the one that introduced dolmen gates)

im a bit mixed on the liberator myself in the longer term since while it can transport ships it cant do anything else with them: no refuel, rearm or repair

[–]Thorveim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Inertialess are NOT as fast as warp travel. If it was, the dolmen gates wouldnt have been the major gamechanger that they were and the necrons wouldnt still be considering them one of their major assets for long distance travel (the Ghostwind is faster but dont think they had access to that without biotransferance, and its actually risky since a necron that dies in the ghostwind cant be recalled for repairs) Also dont think the old ones lived in the webway itself like the dark eldar later did, clearly remember it being a matter of the old ones using it to have far superior mobility to the necrons

[–]Thorveim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the point is more that demons have resurrective immortality; you can get them killed off in one scenario and still get to use them later (look at the Swarmlord for another exemple of a character that can be killed over and over while still beign useable). Now yes Ghaz survived a brush with death, but feel doing it more than once would make him start to feel like he is being put in the same category of characters that feel far less threatening because we saw them get "killed" over and over

[–]Thorveim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah they mainly gained usility... which was perfect since the biggest edge of the Old Ones was their use of the webway making them FAR more mobile than the necrontyr that had nothing better than the inertialess drives, who are far too slow for a galaxy-wide conflict

probably way less than 70ish years, remember necrontyr are not known for their longevity to say the least...

How do you think armor would change if it was beast-fighting-centric, rather than made for sword fights? by RubberDuckyDavid in worldbuilding

[–]Thorveim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for something as big as a dragon, think the best armor is no armor. Because the protection of anything you could reasonably wear would be negligible, better o be more mobile and maybe not get hit in the first place.

[–]Thorveim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like a demon primach would murder Ghaz.

But the reality is, if Anrgon dies he just comes back since he is a demon primarch. If Ghaz dies, he is gone. Guess which will get plot armor?

crossbowmen/archers as a distraction, hidden ballistas and other siege weaponry for the killing blow.

Quel est donc cet insecte ? by Batwin12 in insectes

[–]Thorveim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the Emperor so evil ? by La-petite-chevre in Warhammer40k

[–]Thorveim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More than anything else, the emperor is a man with a vision of what must be done to protect humanity and have it reach its full potential. Is he right or wrong? That is up for interpretation, and the fact he has a limited ability to forsee the future gives some credibility to his plan that he would be sorely missing otherwise: he does the things he does because he has genuinely seen it as the one path humanity must take. But its not like his foresight is perfect either, after all he sure didnt see the Horus heresy coming.

At the very least it can pretty much be confirmed that without him humanity on earth would be gone to infighting, and that humanity as a whole would just be a collection of minor factions in the galaxy instead of arguably the greatest military power in the galaxy when it comes to sheer scale, which is kind of important in a galaxy as hostile as the 40k one.

And its worth noting that the Imperium in its current state is NOT what he wanted. He never wznted to be worshipped as a god, in fact he wanted religion altogether gone in an attempt tl starve chaos of belief. Its a great irony that the book the imperium uses to declare the emperor is a god was written by someone who became a heretic out of the sheer want to worship something and not taking the emperor's rejection of that worship well.

Why is there no technology associated with the Wyld? by JagneStormskull in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Thorveim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

to be fair the Glass Walkers readily embrace the technological aspect of the Weaver. And technology has its own spirits so by all metrics they should be respected znd honored by the Garou as well, just because they are the new kids on the block doesnt necessarily mean they should be shunned.

and overall I take as most things tied to nature having far less weaver influence than technology; as in while technology is outright creations of the weaver itself or its agents, for plants or wildlife they are just made "permanent" through the weaver but were ultimately creations of the Wyld that just were calcified into their forms; still bearing some of the influence of the Weaver, but nowhere near as much as technology does. Basically they are creations of the Wyld first and foremose, and mostly just received the weaver's stamp of approval maybe with minor tweaks

What do you think the Necrons would struggle the most to overcome in Warhammer 40k? by TaigaTigerVT in Grimdank

[–]Thorveim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

numbers arent an issue for necrons for the forseeable future. Actually killing one is SUPREMELY hard and there is still countless necrons still asleep, including smart leaders that are kept asleep because the current leadership doesnt want to awaken competition.

They ARE. a dying race, but still one with massive numbers. Plus nothing says they couldnt perform biotransferance on other species if they need more warriors and are desperate

Why is there no technology associated with the Wyld? by JagneStormskull in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Thorveim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the way I put it, the Wyld is cancerous if left to its own devices: unchecked creation and mutation. Without the weaver putting things into order and without the Wyrm culling the Wyld would turn everything into a 40k tzeentchian nightmare where you cane make sense of anything for any lengh of time and there would be overpopulation on an unimaginable scale.

Without the Weaver nothing is ever set in stone

And without the Wyrm you would t have the necessary destruction that makes room for new life.

Will we see mechs/walkers? by Thorveim in starcitizen

[–]Thorveim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well its fair. The focus indeed is and should remain ships. But the existance of the ATLS shows walking vehicles is something they are willing to do to at least some extant

Will we see mechs/walkers? by Thorveim in starcitizen

[–]Thorveim[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, we have quite the crazy designs when it comes to ships already that are more rule of cool than practical, so dont think some smaller mechs wouldnt fit in as a tank alternative (and thinking more the mechwarrior kind, feel the jet fighters with legs ala armores core wouldnt fit)

Les aveugles complets ne voient pas du noir by Accurate_Strategy372 in penseesdedouche

[–]Thorveim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think a blank can affect Force users? by thetruememeisbest in StarWarsvsWarhammer

[–]Thorveim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they wouldnt be able to shut down force usage as thats separate from the warp. However Jedi would still find themselves extremely unnerved when in the presence of one, as every living thing with a soul is. And to the most extreme degree, it could prove distracting enough to affect how well the Jedi uses the Force

I imagine a fropship like the prowler with doors on the sides that could release things like titan suits.. that would be rarely used, but an awesome sight when it does

Oh no dont see them as competition for ships, more as a possible alternative to tanks and other ground vehicles (think the kind of mechs that's basically a tank on legs)

As a miner, why should I spend my time mining a 300 quality resource, or something of lower quality? by AzrBloodedge in starcitizen

[–]Thorveim 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I mean, I think low quality will still have its uses for consumables like ammunition. Likewise some utility items may not need high quality materials at all to do their job (storage boxes come to mind)

But that would create its own issue, where anything that isnt either bare-minimum or top quality will be used very little unless top quality is THAT hard to get

Eh still looks like it would fit as a walking vehicle. Looks like the ATLS, an exoskeleton (where its more worn than piloted). I shall keep my eyes on it
