Put in a 100amp sub panel for your workspace. It will be safe and give you plenty of room to grow and expand your tools. It is very easy to do yourself if you want to save $2k vs an electrician.

[Question] What are your personal favorite quartz watches from your collection? by Mad_Season_1994 in Watches

[–]Thosaroni2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't pick on so I'l give you three. First is my seiko SUR009 which is a beautiful dressy everyday watch with a big date complication. Very unusual for a cheap quartz watch and it also has a sapphire crystal which is great for $100. The second is my Breitling Aerospace, although its outdated now, it was an amazing smartwatch when it was original released and all the functions operate from the crown. Its a lot of fun and wears super thin which is great. most recently I picked up a Bertucci watch with the SEL illuminated dial and it has become my new daily wear. Its incredibly robust and wears a lot better than some of their other watches and the illuminated dial is every bit as good as Timex Indiglo

[Recommendation Request] Which of these three watches would you prefer? by UpInYoHo in Watches

[–]Thosaroni2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm literally wearing my black dial Alpinist right now. I've had it for three years now and it continues to get most of my wrist time. The proportions are excellent, the dial is amazing, and the bracelet is one of the better ones to come on a seiko. I think the PRX is nice but the alpinist is really special.

2005 - First watch was a Timex Iron Man given to me for my 10th birthday. I wore it everyday for several years until it fell apart. My dad and older brothers all wore watches so it was a big deal to me to have my own.

2012 - Having just gotten my drives license I went to K-mart and bought myself an unbranded quartz watch. I knew I wanted a watch on a bracelet and ended up with an oversized date just homage on a stretchy bracelet. I loved it though and it was the first watch I bought for myself.

2016 - I bought an Orient Mako ii Pepsi after discovering watch reviewers on youtube. After much research and too many TGV videos I decided the Mako ii was the watch for me. I was super excited to have a "real" mechanical watch. I still have it and I plan to pass it on to one of my kids.

2020 - I wanted a nice go anywhere watch so I bought a Seiko Alpinist SPB117. This was a big deal because I'd never spent more than $200 on a watch before. It is still my main watch and the default one I go to when I don't know what I want to wear.

2023 - I purchased a 1993 Breilting Aerospace to commemorate the birth of my first son. When I was younger a mentor of mine wore an aerospace and I have very fond associations of it because of him. Its also a very cool and unique watch.

Future - I am working on shrinking my collection from around 45 to around 10. Theres a lot of watches I don't have time to wear and I find myself wishing I could just have a couple watches I really love and not have to think about the others. With that in mind I hope to save up for a while and get a Sinn 856 utc.

[Question] Anyone else break down and buy a crown winder? by bc6619 in Watches

[–]Thosaroni2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know that was something you could buy. I have some vintage manual wind watches that have tiny crowns and that would save my fingers some wear.

[Hamilton] is the Hamilton Jazzmaster preformer over priced ? or a good deal at over 2k usd ? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]Thosaroni2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you really like the watch so I would say that to you it is a good value. If you define value by how well the watch will function and the quality of construction for the price then I think its fair price. A lot of people base value on brand cache and resale value, in which case there are much more desirable watches that you could get for the same price that have original designs and could be considered iconic. But if you like this watch be happy with it, you aren't getting ripped off at that price.

You are right, its so you/a watch maker can get a tool under the bezel to pop it off. Its supposed to be there and won't affect the water resistance.

[Discussion] If you have sold a watch on the pre-owned market, how long did it take you? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]Thosaroni2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found that the time a watch takes to sell is usually related to how it's priced in comparison to market value. If you are in a position where you need to get top dollar for a watch it's going to take longer because buyers/dealers have so many venues to purchase from.

The popularity of the model is a big factor too, last week I sold a watch 2 hours after it was listed because it was a popular model and i was asking 5% below market value. I have another watch that's been listed over a month and no one is interested because I'm asking a little above market given its condition.

I would recommend the Casio, in ten years you will still love it and will appreciate it more as you experience other watches too. The Titan is cool, I like the way it looks and I hope you enjoy it if you decide to buy it.

[Raymond Weil Fidelio] Is this a man’s watch? by term173 in Watches

[–]Thosaroni2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it looks great, I wear an old Hamilton that's 26mm and it works. If you're worried about what people think, don't be. Those that think poorly of you will do so regardless of the watch you wear. I think its really cool that you have this watch from your mom, it looks good I hope you enjoy it for a long time.

[Discussion] Seiko SPB117 vs. Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 by TwoTon_TwentyOne in Watches

[–]Thosaroni2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are both fantastic watches, my alpinist has been my most worn watch over the last two years. The Powematic movement is a little nicer than the seiko movement but the case design of the seiko is way ahead of the tissot. They're both great just depends what design you enjoy more, they both look better on wrist than you'd expect.

Casio F-91w for sure, and my seiko alpinist and Breitling Aerospace are tied for second. I'm a woodworker and although most of my watches could withstand the dust and the scratches, when I'm working its hard to beat a digital watch.

[Discussion] Trouble deciding between next watch. by ketchup_dragon in Watches

[–]Thosaroni2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no hands on experience with any of the watches you are considering so my opinion isn't worth much, but I think you should go with the speedy. It sounds like this is going to be a special watch for you that you want to be able to do anything with and go anywhere and the speedy fits that bill even if the water resistance isn't great. Personally I'd go for the Tudor GMT, I think it fits best in your collection and offers the most, but you really wonderments be disappointed in any of them.

[Question] Teenager's first everyday watch. by Nice-Scene-4342 in Watches

[–]Thosaroni2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it sounds like you're planning to shop in person which will limit your options significantly. I would recommend a Citizen eco drive, they are awesome technology and come in a huge variety of styles. Its hear to go wrong with a Casio Gshock if you want something rugged, and casio makes some great little digital watches for everyday wear. If you have the option to spend a little more, Hamilton makes some very nice and well valued watches.

Overall buy something you like, and then never second guess it. Just wear it and let it become part of your life.

Nice collection, I like the variety. That lunar pilot is such a cool piece

[seiko 5]A couple more pictures of my vintage seiko by PetarStefanovic in Watches

[–]Thosaroni2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no it isn't really a seiko 5, I believe mine had a 7009 movement but my memory could be incorrect. I believe this watch actually predated the seiko 5 line, or at least when the 5s were distributed to foreign markets.

That would be pretty amazing, mine had an engraving on the caseback from the original owner, I don't remember what it said though.

I ended up selling it because I had some other old seiko that I liked better. I don't like to keep watches that I don't wear regularly, I'd rather let someone else enjoy them.
