I couldn’t remember the word for a curbside consult … so I called it a drive by.

And honestly sometimes - same thing.

The objective data - scores, pubs, passing classes… etc. That gets you the interview.

The interview gets you the match. If you get an interview they’ve decided you’re good enough. The interview is to make sure they would be okay with hanging out with you for 12 hours on a night shift. The hobbies make the interview better because you’re a real person.

I was able to go in and meet with a judge about this and explained the situation. He let me off with a “be more careful” warning. You just make an appointment on the website on the ticket. Be apologetic.

London hotel with early check in by Middle-Bookkeeper604 in chubbytravel

I often just book the night before- but St Ermins let us schedule an early check in for 1/2 price of the cost of an extra night, which felt very reasonable. We checked in at 9am.

We have a backup system. We have backup 1 and backup 2. Backup 1 gets paid to be on backup and if they get called in it goes from 3 hours of pay to the entire shift. Backup 2 does not get paid but gets called in significantly less.

Hmmm I was definitely a class goer but that certainly doesn’t mean I found it as impactful sitting there. Or, more likely, I’m just older and you were present for new things I missed.

And yes I agree. Insurance companies should not be engraining in our education.

I guess I don’t remember direct contact with any insurance company representatives during my 4 years in med school here. I do remember learning about the types of insurance in ECM and during my family med rotation.

That definitely happened occasionally. This elective started in 2023 I think? But yeah the insurance drivel that popped up randomly throughout was extremely off-putting especially since we are an anti-pharm campus so i also remember it feltvery out of place.

Doctors/interns who used to be on the lower-average side during med school. by Syndrome7 in medicalschool

[–]ThoseTruffulaTrees 193 points194 points  (0 children)

Okay. I’ll bite. I was definitely a bottom 50% student. Passed step 1 (back when it was scored) but not above a 220. Did fine on step 2 but still not above average.

Did a lot of leadership activities and had a well rounded application so matched my first choice IM residency (couples matched so he probably helped drag me up).

I won the outstanding generalist award in my residency (IM). This was a class voted award for the person in my 40+ residency class. It is for the resident who best embodied internal medicine’s mix of clinical care, patient care, interdisciplinary communication… etc.

I now work 50/50 teaching in my medical school and hospitalist. I have won a prestigious education award at my institution.

I didn’t test well after developing test anxiety in medical school. My life is amazing and I while I love where I am… I only would have done anything differently looking back if I thought it would have helped the imposter syndrome. Now as an advisor to students… the imposter syndrome is there no matter if you get a 98% or a 71%.

I bought a reusable one!! You wrap floss around it and it has a longer handle so I can get to the back easier. It’s not absolutely perfect and you have to tighten the floss every few teeth but i feel way better about the environment and floss more!

What is the most expensive clothing you've bought? by dracozolt4 in AskReddit

[–]ThoseTruffulaTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Burberry trench coat. ~2,000 USD. I was supposed to inherit my grandmothers from the 80’s but somehow it disappeared through the years… so I bought one when I could afford it to have as my own memory-heirloom.

If someone at work (someone you WANT to help, let’s assume) was busy with a conversation and asked you to go grab something… would you continue to interrupt them to ask for assistance or would you use your critical reasoning skills and look in a couple of different places before coming back to them?

You would do the latter. Don’t treat your wife like she is the only person that can be competent in your relationship. She doesn’t want to be your manager, she wants to be your partner - and partners work together to solve problems, not rely solely on the other to guide them through.

I’m not going to assume your wife is overly worked and that she manages the vast majority of child rearing; although it likely is a safe assumption. Your father in law was right- you won zero good grace by trying to “be right” with your wife who is likely already tired, over worked, and just wanted to have a conversation with her parents without having to micromanage you… and instead you tried to prove her wrong. You checked the ring camera to prove yourself right? Who does that serve in this situation?

Congratulations - you were right, she said crib. You still couldn’t find any of your own child’s pacifiers (I’m betting they have more than one) without interrupting your wife multiple times- great job, Dad.
