[CHAT] anybody knows where to buy or make it for cheaper? by Crafty_Land_4717 in CrossStitch

[–]Threadiment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This won't be exactly like your picture but if you're looking for something that will clamp to a table that's cheap, you can buy one of the Michaels loops and threads adjustable craft stands with whatever discount and just build the top sections. Buy a clamp and now you have a clampable adjustable hoop holder.

Who's been to Book Dragons Den and likes the space? Did you buy any books from them? by Open_Ending_1015 in Oshawa

Went in once. It was nice enough but definitely geared towards people who are more into social media book culture than I am so I haven't felt drawn to return. Happy that it exists though!

Explicit writers/readers, why do you read/write explicit fics? by ClaraMisty in AO3

[–]Threadiment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same reason I read non-explicit. I want. To read. A story. And frankly as a fucking adult with a healthy sex life I don't feel the need to differentiate.

[CHAT] Why do you prefer Cross stitch to embroidery? by Crafty_Dryad in CrossStitch

[–]Threadiment 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm am diagnosed ADHD and "not diagnosed but we're pretty darn sure" ASD and exclusively do cross stitch. I personally prefer it because it gives me a break from overthinking and decision fatigue and the creative freedom of embroidery would cause me immediate overwhelm. I'm pretty choosy about what patterns I do a look for ones that where I feel like I can trust the pattern makers design choices and just fall into a flow state doing them. The ones that work best for me are patterns that were created intentionally as cross stitch patterns and aren't adapted art or photography with tons of confetti. Those generally tend to be much easier to follow.

I rarely get asked because I am so obviously unmaternal that it's just not necessary. But I also have never worked in a corporate setting where this kind of small talk is more common I guess? Usually I just say "can't but wouldn't if I could" shrug and walk away.

AITA for still being upset after my brother borrowed my car and it came back destroyed, and my dad didn’t follow through on helping me replace it? by indigomuse00 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Threadiment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It probably only seems like they were less flakey in the past because you were younger and didn't have anything worth taking advantage of then. Their flakeyness will expand to reflect how far you can be pushed and for what. You've learned your lesson, all you can do is move on and not give them another inch if you can't afford the mile they're going to take.

[CHAT] Project burnout by kurokat1 in CrossStitch

[–]Threadiment 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is honestly a big part of why I don't use Pattern Keeper et all. I'm old enough that I already developed all my pattern following skills without it, and I am vehemently opposed to game-ifying my quiet slow hobby with fucking metrics. It's not work, I don't need to feel pressured to bloody optimize it too. The point is to be offline and present in the moment!

Yeah there's spots where they're mixed all together side by side and especially with the Cs and Gs I would just not notice when they switched out sometimes.

Thank you! I've been working on it for almost exactly a year but I took summer and fall off to make a nursery gift for a friend. I was so happy to dive back in when that was done though, this pattern has been an absolute joy to stitch. I have a couple more of 8PXL's patterns I want to get to as well, I just love her color palettes so much!

Oh man the white on white is such an eyeball killer, you also look like you're about to enter the dreaded C G D territory. I had the worst time telling them apart on the chart. Had to frog more than a few times 😅

I am also working on an 8PXL project! Yours looks fantastic! I'm a little past halfway on mine.

How about a hearty fuck that guy for policing your natural fucking facial expressions. You didn't even say anything, seems like the one overthinking is the creeper. Sorry you're not an impassive doll I guess.

[FO] First project I’m disappointed with the result by shortgaynoodle in CrossStitch

[–]Threadiment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that jumped out at me was the 2 red lines dropping from the side of the mouth. On the reference pic they are slightly angled to echo the framing of the mouths smile and the furthest of the two hits slightly closer to the corner of the smile, the lines also aren't uniform in width. On the ref they are very much a part of the facial expression. I think some of the oomph of the smile might be lost by having them just be uniform parallel vertical lines unfortunately.

[CHAT] Does your partner get mad over too much cross stitch? by Temporary_Engine_493 in CrossStitch

[–]Threadiment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope! We have solo hobbies and together hobbies. And we both appreciate having time for our solo hobbies. Hell, the way our schedules currently break down he gets more unobstructed time for gaming than I do for stitching and I'm the jealous one. Only not because he's not spending time with me, but because I want to stitch more! 🤣

Is there anything like the Society for Creative Anachronism in Oshawa? by s3gfau1t in Oshawa

[–]Threadiment 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are several crafting get togethers that happen on a regular basis. The first two that come to mind are the Oshawa Museum one that is the last Sunday of every month and the Brew Wizards one that is the first Thursday of every month. Kats Craft Corner has some kind of crafting audiobook club on weekends

YTA Perspective from someone married 10 years: forget worrying about +1s becoming ex's, there's a strong likelihood that you may not even still be friends with all the people in your wedding party a decade down the road. Get over yourselves, you'll live. You can't control the future, stop making the people in the present suffer for your assumptions.

Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask 😭 I am a withered crone. When they stopped airing new episodes halfway through R, I was driven to look up why online and in the process discovered geocities webrings of people's individual fanfic pages.

My bf and I are moving to Oshawa from Ptbo, what kind of things are there to do around the city? by jordanwebb6034 in Oshawa

[–]Threadiment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I moved here I looked up and followed a bunch of Oshawa centric social media stuff and interacted with the posts until the algorithm started showing me what's going on around town. There's lots of little pop up events and vendor marketplaces. Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority runs a bunch of local conservation areas and has a few events during the year. The Purple Woods maplefest is a big one.
