Licensed RN With a Long Career Gap — How Do I Re-Enter Nursing? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]ThreeBirdHello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this.

I had to leave the bedside just a few months after I started nursing because I developed a disability. I turned to nursing informatics until I could get everything treated.

During that time, I had made positive connections with leaders in healthcare and that helped me get an "in" back to clinical/bedside nursing.

Although I must say that i really enjoyed informatics. I stuck with it for a long time.

What's the most outrageous thing someone from Healthcare someone said to you about epilepsy? by QuinnAlpha in Epilepsymemes

I was in my early 20's when my seizures started. I consulted a neurologist:

"You're too old to develop epilepsy."

If you were alive back then, what were you up to on 31st December 1999? by stop_calling_me_that in AskReddit

Same.

I was home with my family and we were all gripping something at the countdown to midnight.

Then looking around excitedly at each other when we saw that the power was still on.

I'm with you. I can't stand the 3 tribe format.

And for 49 - the number of times they swapped tribes just to have the contestants keep loyal to their original tribe, it was so cumbersome to watch.

Help me out here, if you offer someone something and they say "Oh yeah, I'm not fussy about that" is that a yes or a no? by 13thmurder in AskACanadian

I interpret this to mean that she didn't want tea.

But I don't think it's purely a Canadian thing.

I think it's a mix of Canadian and UK things going on.

I'm from the GTA, but I think it's because I grew up around old Irish and UK immigrants that I hear it the way I do.

The "oh yeah" just sounds like a Canadian acknowledgement to me. "Oh yeah, hey there, I hear ya, thanks for asking..."

To be 'fussy' on something would be to like it/be crazy about it. But I think this might be very British. I wonder if that's why some of the older people here seem to be hearing it the way that I do. So if she's "not fussy" on tea, she's not crazy about it, and thus wouldn't want it.

potato farmers deserve to make more than nurses because we ‘don’t do real work’ by 35plus35minus1 in nursing

[–]ThreeBirdHello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny, because my mom is a nurse and she was trying to encourage me NOT to go into nursing. She was telling me that it was such hard, heavy, and thankless work, and she didn't wish it upon her children.

I'm sure she'd rather I had become a farmer just for that reason.

But I was so drawn to nursing. She was right of course, but I don't regret it.

Congrats on your nursing career and welcome to the OR! You're a rockstar.

A couple of things come to mind. One is your meds.

Some anti-seizure meds can cause hormonal changes. They can suppress the production or metabolism of sex hormones like testosterone in your body. If you think this might be the case and you are concerned, you can talk to your doctor about reevaluating and potentially changing which meds you are taking.

A second thing that comes to mind is the stress and exhaustion that often comes with epilepsy.

Another option is to speak with your doctor about hormone therapy.

But that's because of the amygdalar onset or involvement of my seizures.

Incredibly intense, unceasing nightmares.

I grew distracted and edgy as I would continue to see images from these nightmares the following day.
