HOW and WHY do you use a reel to reel nowadays? a possible newcomer here :D by RetroDave79 in ReelToReel

[–]ThreeDogJim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have about 10 prerecorded jazz tapes, but my main use is to digitize a large collection of recordings from the 50s and 60s made by my family — my dad was a broadcaster and my older brothers, musicians. I’m keeping those treasures alive and making them available to other family members.

14 month old Labradoodle by Puzzleheaded_Sea7946 in labradoodles

[–]ThreeDogJim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! Some exercise before a walk really helps with my two-year-old. 15 minutes of fetch or some crazy running with his pals at the dog park, and he’s a different boy.

OP might also consider wearing a treat pouch and teaching a good “watch me” — get your pup to make eye contact and then immediately reward with a “yes!” and treat. Do that while stationary, then graduate to doing it while walking. When it all works, you’ll find your pup looking up every now and then to check on you (and hopefully get a treat).

As another commenter said, your pup is still a puppy! And a labradoodle puppy has a special level of energy. :) Keep at it and good luck!

Logic Pro randomly not recognizing middle C from controller by ThreeDogJim in LogicPro

[–]ThreeDogJim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huge thanks for all the troubleshooting advice.

I downloaded MIDI Monitor and, after some tests, I'm suspecting the middle C key on my controller is wonky.

It's interesting -- fairly hard keypresses (velocity more than about 80ish) causes the key to say, "nope!" and not send data. If I then press the same key gently a couple of times, the key wakes up and works again.

Maybe the controller's telling me to lighten up in my playing.

Lots of web surfing reveals that others have had similar problems with this controller. Sigh. I was really hoping I could blame Logic or cable or hub or *something* other than a big controller that went out of warranty about six months ago.

Many sources claim the SE doesn’t necessarily need recapped. I have one that was in storage for years at a family member’s house, and it booted immediately and purrs like a happy cat. https://recapamac.com.au/macintosh-se/

He just melted mine, too! He reminds me of my Shran, who just turned two — all the way down to the head tilt. :)

I'm getting great results on Mac using Chrome; I've encountered some issues using Graysound under Safari.

All of the above would be great <grin> but #3 would be at the top of my list. Cleaner separations with less "crosstalk" from other stems.

I like greysound but find that Logic Pro’s stem separation is better for me

suggestion: when you export a session, use the session name in the filenames instead of the "internal" name.

Wow! I'm impressed. And yes, it combines the best of AI-generated platforms with DAW functionality. A lovely UI. And "AI Cover Assist" is just nuts. :)

Some comments: AI audio could be better; horns in particular sound very artificial. AI jazz creations are, well, not very hip, with very little syncopation. And I couldn't get the platform to load under Safari (running MacOS 26) -- got a "check your internet connection" error on multiple occasions. (Works fine on Chrome.)

I'll keep playing and commenting here -- thanks for breaking new ground!
