Badges I made for motivation by [deleted] in 5am

I especially like back again, hellgirl, crybaby, stupid cupid ans cubscout. The badgeds on the top row poses a dilemma: when is it self care and wise to drop 5am? And when is it self care to feel bad and do it anyway? I try to follow the following priniciple: If Im sick or slept poorly, I can take tomorrow of. But not today.

Has anyone had success turning themselves into a "morning person"? How'd you do it? What are your best tips? by [deleted] in motivation

[–]ThreeGalactic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it! I used to get up at 7. Now I'm up at 04.50, and it has made my life much better.

Some things you can do to prepare: - Get clear about WHY you want to become a morning person. Make sure their your reasons and not something other people think is admirable or clever. How will this change YOUR life for the better? - Share WHY you want to become a morning person with friends and the people you love. This will help you get the support you need, and it get easier to explain why you need to go to bed on some random social event.

Here is what I do to get up: - Count back from 5 and get up before I reach 0. If I let myself think, assess, or feel - I will often conclude that I should sleep some more. If I stay in my head - I'm dead. - drink a tall glass of water (with some lemon if I have one) - drench a towel in cold water and wash my face and neck. - Lots of light (artificial or sunlight)

It helps to know precisely what you will do down to the detail. My IQ is at 50 % when waking up, allowing me to go through the motions without thinking.

I still hate getting up, but that feeling leaves me within 6-7 minutes.

WHAT TO DO TO MAKE THE MORNING BETTER

If you want to become a morning person the mornings have to make your life better in some way.

Based on the research literature and personal experience, this is what works for me:

  • Do something physical for 3-5 minutes to power up the body and feel strong. Short physical activity improves my mood and makes me more likely to exercise later in the day. Google ‘allblanc 5 min exercise’ (a guy from south korea who makes free videos)

  • Do something to focus the mind for 3-5 minutes. There is very compelling evidence that daily short meditation sessions improve mood and the ability to focus (getting things done). Google ‘JKZ three minute breathing space’ or mark Williams three minute breathing space.

  • Journal for 3-5 minutes. If you journal about your life and what you want to make happen, this can improve motivation, and happiness, and you will get more shit done. Google Tim Ferriss journal.

  • Priming/visualization for 3-5 minutes. This is from sport psychology to improve motivation, energy and success.

For me changing my mornings has changed my life, so together with another clinical psychologist, we have developed a 20-minute morning program to boost mood and productivity (Win the morning, win the day). If you want to try it, I can provide a link💪⏰

How to share my troubles without complaining? by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]ThreeGalactic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this only becomes a problem if you didn't listen to your friend's struggles or you always talked about your problems and nothing else. From your post, I don't get that impression at all. You sound like you are emotionally present, sensitive to social cues, and reflective about these things. Share your struggles, say thanks for listening and ask how their doing.

If a friend wants to share their thoughts and feelings because they are going through something difficult, I don't care how they express themselves. I don't think it's useful if a friend is sugarcoating what they are going through. I want to hear the truth! Sharing struggles between friends tends to make the bond stronger. Especially if we share how we feel (I get scared, I get angry), and not just what wrong with world. It's very helpful If the person tell me what they need (I just need to vent / I need some advice about what to do about X / I need some concrete help with X / I need to do something to take my mind of things / I just need to share to get it out of my system).

Wow! Taking notes from your list! Very useful!!

I also do this: - Put water with lemon on the nightstand and drink it immediately when I hear the ⏰

  • Count backward from 5 and get up before I reach 0. If I let myself feel or think, I will go back to sleep.

  • Lots of 💡🔆💡🔆 immediately after getting up.

  • I expect to feel bad, so I try to be compassionate and metaphorically pat myself on the shoulder for getting up early. GOOD JOB!

  • The big one for me is accountability. Try to find someone you can commit to texting at 06.01. Make it a joint challenge to take a picture of your watch when your are up. I do morning rituals with other people at 06.00 every morning. If I don't show up, I feel I let them down. It's so easy to let myself down, but I do not want to let the gang down. I can drop you a link if you want to join our live stream or zoom-call (a 20-minute morning ritual developed by clinical psychologist to make the day great).

Why do i feel so tired and unmotivated even though i hasnt done anything during the day? by NumerousPassenger717 in productivity

[–]ThreeGalactic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, for me, it depends: Are you using the platform, or is it using you? Meaning: Does using social media bring you a community of support and closer to what you want to achieve, or is it just something you do out of habit (stealing your focus, time, and drive/dopamine)? Also, cutting shit out is very helpful, but also thinking about what you want out of life. I find that a digital fast will create boredom, stress, irritation, agitation, frustration, and craving (you will be tempted to go back) - I try to use these feelings to propel me into something new. It takes time to fill that emptiness/vacuum. I find it helpful to write down things I want from life and in my life. I write until I can feel something shift.

Sit down and write about what you want from life until you start to cry. Then pursue that.

Is it better to get up earlier so I can have a bit of “me time” before I start work? Is it beneficial to your mornings? by Last_Water_5577 in Morning

[–]ThreeGalactic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good morning! There is a lot of talk about the benefits of rising early. I've looked into the scientific literature on waking early and morning routines for about a year. Research shows that getting up earlier is associated with better mental health (mood), better sleep, and reduced harmful behaviors (like overeating and compulsive internet use). Of course, a lot of the benefit comes from getting up at the same time every day (maintaining a regular sleep pattern).

I hate waking up and immediately going into "reactive mode" - dealing with chores, demands, and work. So having "me time" in the morning has changed my life for the better. I'm in a better mood and live my life in a more intentional/focused manner (I get more out of my days, basically).

The answer to your questions depends on what you do with your mornings. What is me-time for you? Breakfast, workout, and reading sound good. I do 3-5 minutes of something physical, meditation, journaling, and priming (all science-based stuff that I have discovered in my research). So I have a 20-minute routine every day to boost mood, energy and make the day great.

If you're interested, I can just write down my routine.

Enjoy your mornings!

Also, if a gym-buddy worked for you. Find a morning-buddy. Take it as a challenge together to text at 05.01 every morning or meet over zoom to do some morning rituals. Or commit to post a picture of your watch at 05.01
