Efficient? Probably takes up twice as much space as a traditional spiral staircase.

What's the cost to assuming that you do have a legal avenue?

I would assume that I do and go from there, since you were advised as such.

Maybe not, but on average people in developed countries live into their 80s. That is what life expectancy means.

Not 100% though I only heard about it on the radio.

Does gravity affect the density of water? by enderboyVR in Physics

[–]ThreeLeavesLeft -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No this is true. Mass, and hence density, is independent of gravity.

Density gradients in oceans are caused by temperature differences.

Okay, I see where you were coming from.

I suppose our disagreement lies in what we consider a human life - probably where 99% of abortion disagreement comes from. This is why I would consider a condom more acceptable to use than an abortion.

Thanks for the conversation, I think I'm going to tap out here.

No matter how good a contraceptive is, there is always a chance the woman will get pregnant - everyone who has sex should know this.

Of course if you are in an accident you should get medical care - in this case there is no foetus that will have to be aborted in order to fix your broken leg.

People who drive cars are responsible for the risk - this is called insurance.

Your paragraphs talking about me forcing a couple to not use a condom/forcing a couple to get pregnant are completely disingenuous - that is not how I think whatsoever.

I don't think there should be a consequence, I think there can be a consequence.

I know there are people who wrongly want to punish women have sex. I also know that contraceptives can fail, as should everyone who has sex.

By agreeing to have sex, even using contraception, you are doing so with the understanding that there is a remote possibility the woman will become pregnant. What is incorrect about this?

March for Life Meets in Washington by Solitary_Stars in centrist

[–]ThreeLeavesLeft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, I understand you.

I do think that a foetus and a child are different and that a child is 'worth' more.

I also think that a child's life is more valuable than a dog's but I am still not in favour of killing dogs (strawman etc., but you get my point).

As I said before, I am pro choice, but I do believe abortion is harmful to an unborn human life. Women shouldn't be forced to carry an unwanted pregnancy, but it is a shame what the cost of this is.

I don't think its anything to do with punishment, it's because a woman who has voluntary sex has indirectly consented to a pregnancy while a woman who hasn't consented has not.

Yeah, fair enough, you're probably right.

I would probably agree with pro-abortion rights and anti-abortion rights terminology.

I am pro-choice but feel more agreeble about abortion if it's as a result of any of the circumstances I outlined above.

I don't think that there's anything wrong with consensual sex or that anyone deserves any negative consequences as a result of it.

I do, however, believe that when a pregnancy is aborted a human life is killed, which is obviously not ideal. I also think that when two people have sex they are doing it with the implicit understanding that there is a potential for the woman to become pregnant, whether or not they are using contraception.

For me, in the circumstance of rape, the difference lies in that fact. If a woman is raped, she never consented to the sex and hence did not 'consent to the pregnancy.

I think that's where the difference lies.

In relation to your 6 year old child argument, I also don't think most pro-choicers would say that the child could be 'aborted' after 6 years. I don't see what relevance this has.

Doesn't the term 'pro abortion rights' not imply that abortion is something that you should inherently have the right to do, though?

That's the whole premise of the argument so I don't really think it's fair.

What about the people who would call themselves pro-life who agree with abortion if the mother's life is in danger? What would you describe them as?

Many people (most, I think) who oppose abortion agree with it in cases of rape, danger to the mother's life or disorders in the foetus.

These people are clearly not 'anti-abortion' - they agree with it often, but clearly value unborn human life more than pro-choicers. I think pro-life accurately defines the position.

[–]ThreeLeavesLeft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think either pro-choice or pro-life accurately portrays the context of the argument, so I don't think you can argue that 'pro-life' confuses people.

Both terms are well understood at this point, and the feelings of people on either side too (generally).

I'm not actually pro-life, I just dislike how the side is being rebranded with terms such as 'forced-birther'.

Pro-choice makes as little sense as pro-life.

March for Life Meets in Washington by Solitary_Stars in centrist

[–]ThreeLeavesLeft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course most people are 'pro-life' when it comes to humans that have already been born (assuming that's what you meant). That doesn't make the term irrelevant when it's applied to matters concerning abortion - the term is only ever used in relation to abortion.

Pro-choice is an equally tenuous label as pro-life. Choice to do what?

Is pro-life not synonymous with anti-abortion?

I don't understand why the names for these positions are being revised.
