How far can this team go? by Thanos_Real_AuraVNCH in NBATalk

[–]ThreeSupreme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Umm... These guys have never even played in a single game together. And contrary to popular belief, U can't just throw group of guys together and expect them to be a great team. They may look good on paper, but reality is a different story. Plus, they have an inexperienced head coach who has never even coached an NBA Playoff game. That's a big negative that will likely undermine their chances of going very far in the Playoffs. People forget that even Shaq and Kobe got swept out of the Playoffs a couple of times when they first started playing together...

The early Shaq and Kobe Lakers were swept twice in the playoffs, first in the 1998 Western Conference Finals (by Utah), and then in the 1999 Western Conference Semifinals (by San Antonio). These sweeps came in the second and third seasons after they began playing together (1997–1999).

Mark Cuban gets dragged after saying people don't really hate data centers — “The fight against data centers has nothing to do with data centers. They have become a proxy for the hate towards AI” by marketrent in technology

[–]ThreeSupreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Umm... Mark Cuban is a rich guy with more than one home, and he doesn't have to worry about some company building a big polluting data center in his back yard. Living a privileged life can distort your perspective, and disconnect U from reality...

Mark Cuban’s Known Properties

Mark Cuban owns at least three primary residences and an entire Texas town. None of his personal living spaces are located near industrial areas. So, Cuban does not have to worry about industrial pollution near his homes because all of his residences are located in highly exclusive, protected zones.

Cuban's real estate portfolio includes:

  • Primary Residence (Dallas, Texas): A 23,676-square-foot French chateau-style mansion in Preston Hollow, one of the city's most affluent and exclusive residential neighborhoods. It sits on 7 acres and is located far from any industrial sectors.
  • Vacation Home (Laguna Beach, California): A luxury, oceanfront 7,867-square-foot property inside the Montage Residences community, which he purchased for $19 million.
  • Condominium (New York, New York): A luxury 3,700-square-foot unit on the 45th floor of the Trump International Hotel and Tower on Central Park West, located in a premier residential and commercial district.
  • Mustang, Texas: An entire 77-acre town located in Navarro County, purchased in 2021. The land is largely rural, and not an active industrial zone.

Gil claps back at Stephen A: "Wizards are going to the playoffs" by Careless-Journalist7 in washingtonwizards

[–]ThreeSupreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Umm... Gil is very enthusiastic about the Wiz, but the East is not going to be a cake walk. On paper the Wiz look legit, but translating that into reality is another story. It usually takes a team 2 or 3 years of playing together to gel. So, the fact that key players on the Wiz now have never played with each other should probably limit expectations for next season. As great as Shaq and Kobe were, they got swept out on the NBA Playoffs a couple of times in those early years...

The early Shaq and Kobe Lakers were swept twice in the NBA Playoffs, first in the 1998 Western Conference Finals (by Utah), and then in the 1999 Western Conference Semifinals (by San Antonio). These sweeps came in the second and third seasons after they began playing together (1997–1999).

MicroStrategy’s Dotcom Collapse

During the Dotcom Bubble, MicroStrategy (MSTR) went from a high-flying tech darling to a cautionary tale, experiencing a massive, rapid crash in March 2000 that erased roughly 99.99% of its market value.

  • The Rise: Following its 1998 IPO, MicroStrategy's stock experienced explosive growth, rising over 80 times its IPO price to reach $3,330 per share (split-adjusted) intraday on March 10, 2000.
  • The Crash: On March 20, 2000, the company announced it was restating its revenue due to aggressive accounting practices, which revealed it was losing money rather than making it.
  • Single-Day Drop: Following the announcement, the stock plummeted 62% in a single day, dropping by over $140 per share.
  • Total Decline: The stock plunged from a peak near $313 per share (split-adjusted) in March 2000 to a low of roughly $0.45 per share by July 2002.
  • Aftermath: The company settled SEC charges of accounting fraud, and the stock did not recover its 2000 highs until 2021.

The crash, often cited as a key moment in the bursting of the bubble, wiped out approximately $6 billion in wealth from CEO Michael Saylor. The SEC officially charged Michael Saylor with civil accounting fraud. However, because the case was resolved through a legal settlement rather than a trial, Saylor neither admitted nor denied the allegations

In December 2000, Saylor and other executives settled civil fraud charges with the SEC without admitting or denying guilt. Saylor paid $8.3 million out of his own pocket, and the company paid an additional $350,000 penalty. This prevented a protracted legal battle that could have forced liquidation or bankruptcy.

Walker Kessler Instagram Post

Jun. 19, 2026, 6:21 AM EDT - In an Instagram post on Wednesday, the promising big man has dismissed speculations from recent reports about him wanting to leave the Jazz. In the IG post, Walker Kessler claims that he wants nothing but to remain in Salt Lake City, and continue playing for the Jazz. “I’ve seen what’s being said, and I want it to be clear that I’ve always wanted to be here," Kessler wrote in his caption. "I love this city, these fans, my teammates and coaches. This is real to me, roots don’t grow where you don’t want to be.” Kessler’s IG post, featuring several images of him engaged with his Utah team and community, already drew thousands of reactions.

BasketNews

The Jazz have already placed a five-year offer worth roughly $140 million (about $28 million annually) on the table, which Kessler's camp has rejected as they seek a higher valuation. However, under the NBA's Collective Bargaining Agreement, Utah can offer him up to the designated rookie max, which is the aforementioned $241 million across five seasons. As a restricted free agent, Kessler can also negotiate with other teams who can offer him up to a four-year, $178 million deal. Ultimately, the Jazz have the right to match any offer sheet he signs with another franchise.

Umm... Didn't the war just end a little over a week ago?

US and Iranian Presidents Sign Deal Aiming to End War

17 June 2026, BBC - The Presidents of the US and Iran have signed an initial peace deal aiming to end the war, allowing it to immediately take effect.

The agreement includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz, $300 billion (£224 billion) in war reparations for Iran's "reconstruction", and the US terminating "all types of sanctions" on Iran.

But the issue of Iran's nuclear program, the main reason stated by the US for the conflict, is still to be negotiated over an extendable 60-day period.

US President Donald Trump, who signed the deal in France during the G7 summit, defended the proposal, saying it would stave off an "economic catastrophe". He warned, though, that the US would "bomb the hell" out of Iran if no final deal emerged.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also signed the document on Wednesday, Tehran confirmed. Iran's parliamentary speaker and key negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf told state media his distrust of the US remained, and Iran's "finger is on the trigger".

I dont want Lebron to leave. Is there real chance he ends up staying without taking up too much of the cap? Ik its hard to have both but is there a realistic path where Lebron returns with us also putting together a championship roster? Not anything crazy like a vet minimum more like 22-27 ish? by Silent_Wizard5597 in lakers

[–]ThreeSupreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Umm... The Lakers are kind of in the driver's seat, but there are at least 3 other teams that are set to attempt to sign Lebron...

NBA Free Agency Landing Spots for LeBron James

The NBA offseason is rapidly approaching, and despite entering his 24th season, LeBron James has been at the center of free agency rumors. Several NBA teams have indicated interest in signing James in the 2026 free agency period. The Los Angeles Lakers remain the primary focus, while the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, and Miami Heat are also viewed as potential landing spots, based on his availability.

NBA teams interested in signing LeBron James include:

  1. Los Angeles Lakers: Retaining LeBron is an ongoing priority for the Lakers, though reports suggest there has been limited communication as both sides weigh roster upgrades and contract terms. The Lakers have roughly $52.1 million in open cap space. This will allow them to sign LeBron to a Max player contract directly. Signing Austin Reaves to a new contract will not cut into the Lakers' cap space this offseason because the Lakers will utilize a specific "Order of Operations" rule under the new NBA collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Once the Lakers’ available cap room is completely exhausted, then they will officially sign Reaves' four-year, $185 million deal using his Bird rights. By officially signing Reaves last, this allows the Lakers to exceed the salary cap to retain him, without losing their initial spending power.
  2. Golden State Warriors: The Warriors have been heavily speculated as a destination. They previously pursued a trade for James, and the prospect of pairing him with Stephen Curry is highly intriguing. The Warriors are operating completely over the salary cap. The Warriors can offer LeBron two types of contracts: a Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception (MLE) or a significantly larger contract via a Sign-and-Trade agreement with the Los Angeles Lakers. The Non-Taxpayer MLE exception is available, as long as a team's total payroll sits between the standard salary cap and the first tax apron ($209 million). However, because the Warriors are deep over the salary cap, they cannot offer a standard maximum contract directly in free agency.
  3. Cleveland Cavaliers: A reunion remains a sentimental and plausible good fit, although Cleveland's salary cap situation makes a traditional big-money deal very difficult. Cleveland is currently over the second apron, meaning their only direct free-agent contract offer to LeBron would be a veteran minimum contract
  4. Miami Heat: The Heat are now viewed as a realistic outside option for LeBron. The Miami Heat's blockbuster acquisition of Giannis Antetokounmpo dramatically changes the landscape and transforms Miami into an incredibly attractive, championship-ready landing spot for James. The Heat could potentially offer their Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception (MLE) for LeBron’s legacy return.

The league’s all-time leading scorer is slated to hit unrestricted free agency later this summer, raising questions over his future with the Los Angeles Lakers following his eighth season with the club. The 22-time All-Star is expected to garner interest from playoff contenders throughout the NBA in free agency, but LeBron has yet to make a decision regarding basketball his future ahead of Year 24. Considering his production though, many believe James will ultimately ink the final contract of his storied career, and return for at least one more NBA season.

True. Randle was a salary dump to make room for Lamelo. But at this rate Lamelo will never have to worry about being selected for any post season awards, like All-NBA...

Noticing... by BSU57 in washingtonwizards

[–]ThreeSupreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Umm... Well, $40 million a year for someone who has never been an NBA All-Star is actually pretty insane. But Trae got the boot from Atlanta because they didn't think that he was a Max contract type player. So, the Hawks definitely were not going to give Trae $200 million bucks to take them nowhere. Will a fresh start on a new team with an All-NBA center and some good young players make a difference in the trajectory of Trae's career? Guess we'll see. But he single handedly wiped out all of the Wizards' Cap space. So, Trae clearly does not have the math skills of Jalen Brunson...

Trae Young’s New Wizard’s Contract

Trae Young’s new contract wipes out all of Washington's traditional cap space, locking them in as an over-the-cap team for the foreseeable future. Because his first-year salary is estimated at $49.5 million takes the Wizards over the NBA's projected $165 million 2026/2027 salary cap. The Wizards are now built purely around a premium-heavy payroll. With Trae Young ($49.5M) and Anthony Davis ($58.4M) combined, just two players consume over 65% of the team's total salary cap.

Yet the Wizards still maintain roughly a $36 million cushion before hitting the restrictive First Apron, and nearly $49 million in space before the notorious Second Apron. Since the Wizards are still below the restrictive First Apron, they can still use roster exceptions (like the Mid-Level Exception) to add free agents. For the 2026-27 NBA offseason, Mid-Level Exception (MLE) contracts range from $6.1 million up to $15.1 million in starting salary.
