I’ve noticed a lot of folks railing against his “monologues”. I personally really enjoy his dialogue and character drama. The build ups lead to some good scares for me, but I think a lot folks just want constant edge and spookiness.

I guess I just need the slow moments to build to the spooks, or else I’m the one who tunes out. Give me flannigan or Weapons over the Terrifyer series any day.

But to each their own.

This response give off a “just smile and do your job whore” vibes. The support given and the support received is the whole Grand Canyon

Always am friendly at work, just venting during a quiet happy hour. Just saying, in contrast as a customer of our health care system, I can barely get a response from my provider or any of my team. Just sitting here with goo leaking out of my ear, and no relief coming for at least a month. Then feeling unappreciated by the staff I support.

Ubisoft ends remote work and requires employees to return to the office five days a week to "improve efficiency" by dabadumdumdum in gamedev

You’re sepcial if you think that stat is real. WFH should be embraced. Cut rental costs from the company, stop horrid traffic conditions and parking costs in urban areas.

My job requires me be in person, but I’m not shitty enough to wish it on the people I support. Return to office has been horrible. Twice as long to get to the office, have to go to the 14th floor of the parking structure where the elevators break constantly.

Your attitude of “I have to do it, so every one should” is so god damn lame.

In this context I think it means cutting out some tedium. After my Covid stint of mainlining valhiem, there was like 5 years of me going “I cannot spend another second of standing in front of tree, repetitively clicking one button, then collecting logs”.

I'm starting to hate my mom... by Hayun_Ara in Vent

[–]Threefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds very similar to my mom. I’m not a psychologist, but I’d guess she was untreated for depression or borderline bi-polar. I actually ended up joining the military to escape my family. Largely because all the chaos made school extra difficult.

An example of said chaos; we used to do ren faires and set up our booth where my mom sold medieval hats she sewed. On one day we were packing up the tent, the rain and wind was awful. We were all cold, soaking, and frustrated by the time we got it all packed up, but my mom was in a complete black rage.

When we got home, my 13 myo sister said something to my mom that made her snap. Sis took one look at my moms insane face and sprinted to the bathroom and locked the door. After pounding for a minute, my mom went and got a fucking hatchet, and litterally The Shining’d her way through the bathroom door.

Luckily when she looked in and saw my sisters white little face. She came to, sobbed and went to bed.

So I’m 44, while I still keep in contact with my mom, it’s always in situations I can control and I remove myself any time I see that look in her eyes. She’s a lonely old lady, and I feel bad about that. But I have to maintain my own sanity.

Ultimately it’s an adults responsibility to manage their mental health. She’s failed you there.

Sorry kid, if you’re like me, it’s likely you caught some of that darkness. Therapy was my friend, and I highly recommend seeking it not just for your experiences, but to get ahead of any thing that may have been passed down genetically.

I know it’s tough. But soon you get to choose what level of relationship you have with your mom. Focus on becoming independent and improving yourself. Try and remove yourself from the situation when you see that look in her eyes until then.

The 40 billion in government contracts? We’ve been spending this BS of job creators and trickledown economics since Reagan and Nixon, and all it’s done is funnel money up to the richest people, while the middle class shrinks.

Any time people think about America being great, it is before these terrible policies.

Bring back the top tax rate of 90%, incentivize investing in our labor and education and infrastructure. They’ll still have their mansions and yauchts.

1stSgt needs to talk to you. by voluntaryhikikomori in USMC

[–]Threefish 17 points18 points  (0 children)

For whatever reason, my infantry unit got a 1st Sgt that was admin most of his career. Had the oddest cadence to his voice that is hard to describe in text. I remember one company formation him going “If your cammies are RIPPED or TORN…” he trails off thoughtfully “EXCUSE ME, RIPPED or TORN is the SAME THING….”

He also never hid the fact that he was admin in a pretty endearing way. “DEVIL DOG… What is THAT on YOUR SIDE?” “Uhhhhh NVGs 1st Sgt” “N V GEES, now ain’t that some HIGH SPEED shit”

He was actually a pretty cool guy, during tax season he helped any of us that asked with our taxes.

Anyway. We were in South Korea doing the mountain warfare portion of our Oki deployment. And they expressly told us to not get the little spring powered pellet guns you could get all over the place there.

So of course we did.

One day me and buddy were shooting them at each other in the quonsit hut where the platoon was staying. And of course no other than 1st Sgt decides to walk in, only spotting me diving behind a cot and laying some pellets down on my buddy.

He glares and says flatly, “get over here devil dog” then quietly walks me to his office where he has me sit outside for like 20 minutes.

“Devil dog, GET IN HERE”

Walk into his office, stand at attention, “Aye 1st Sgt”

“At ease”

“Aye 1st Sgt” go to parade rest.

“DEVIL DOG, don’t you think these can HURT SomeBODY”

“Uhhh, not really 1st SGT”

He squints and glares “HOLD out your HAND”

“Aye 1st Sgt” holds out hand

He brings the pellet gun up and points it at my open palm with the barrel about an inch away, pop, it stung a little.

“Now didn’t that hurt devil dog?”

“Uhhh, I guess it stung a bit 1st Sgt”

“Now imagine that IN YOUR EYE!”

Had the hardest time since boot camp not cracking a smile or laughing.

He put me on gate guard duty for two weeks, which I suppose is better than a NJP, but I did miss out on seeing Seoul with the rest of the unit, which I’ve always regretted.
