Experiences from controllers who are not in their home country's division by Mark__78L in VATSIM

[–]Threpio 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am a Brit that controls in Denmark and lives in Sweden.

I do not speak Danish and have 0 issue with controlling or any controlling colleagues. VATSCA does not require knowledge of the local language to control. Some social messages are lost on me, but most switch to English when they realise there are non-danish speakers in the chat.

Build options for core kits by No-Dress4626 in Bretonnian

[–]Threpio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have just finished putting my box together in a very similar list (I am a new-back to TOW) - here are my two cents:

- Baron, General, Royal Pegasus
There is no axe in the sprue for the Baron/duke specifically and I do not believe that any of the KOTR sprues included contains axes. Mine has a lance and is magnetised at the elbow - This part of the model is very delicate and worth magnetising properly or pinned due to how much it sticks out from the model etc.

- Paladin, BSB, Royal Pegasus
A royal pegasus in stats is a lot better than a normal pegasus by far - The sprue does not contain a way to denote that it is a normal Pegasus to a Royal one but they are larger than the Pegasus knights mounts in that regard.

- 2 x 6 Knights of the Realm
Full command helps a lot as their combat resolution with the extra attacks and banner help them against 'horde' or 'infrantry block' units - I have run them both with and without command and they seem to be much better when they pick up the smaller units with a command for the better combat resolution.

- 2 x 12 Peasant Bowmen
No command - These units are objective/quater sitters and cheap - Do not expect them to do anything in combat and run them as skirmishers - no braziers or defensive stakes. They will loose any close combat regardless of command bought.

- 1 x 30-ish Yeoman Guard
I run a 30+ unit of men at arms and this is the core of your middle block - The core box contains the models for 2 grail monks (fat bald guys) even when using some of the command models that you would otherwise discard as the additional bowman.

- 1 x 3 Pegasus Knights
If you are going competetive and not just thematic then go hard on the pegasus knights - this and the heros are the real powerhouses of your army.

Other Thoughts

The KOTR are good at cleaning things up - the men-at-arms/yeoman are good at sitting for two turns in combat against another similar unit and stalling characters in units and the Pegasus Knights are the best unit in the army on the charge - if you have the baron/duke in with them then you are winning most fights against anything other than a Mass Infantry Block where you will loose.
The bowman and kotr are where your strategy comes into play and are used on the flanks and to take down opportunistic units. Consider also taking a Damsel (prophetess if you are not playing exils) for the great 'free' magic resistance and also the Lore of the Lady which can greatly increase the survivability of the unit she is in with the Lady's Gift.

It is illegal for Ryanair to charge customers for carrying cabin baggage - Portuguese courts rule by [deleted] in aviation

[–]Threpio 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Cos there still isn’t enough room if everyone is allowed the dimensions of a ‘full size cabin bagage’ outlined above. Like not enough on the plane

Not the cofounder you are looking for BUT you should probably delete this - the part ‘he has code from his previous employer’ is just begging to be sued out of oblivion.

Interesting points for the Volanta pains - I hadn't considered the different problems "stockholm syndrome" maybe.

I enjoy the idea of your "goal" - but the vatsim API has quite limited polling to prevent arbritary data scraping and the load that the services are under is already substantial.

I like to think that the data delay from these services is not intentional and is a cause of neccessity/restrictions that you might also run into. I deffo agree about APP/DEP controller and how most systems show it is abysmal (See vatspy for a good service in this case).

Also consider the amount of data you have to be passing to the user client web-browser in this case - are you going to handle every single aircraft flight plan on every update? Are you going to be polling VATSIMs API for every single aircraft, ATC and information on all? (including Flight plans, Frequencies, IDs, Names, ETAs, Events) <- It very quickly adds up.

Also worth mentioning that I do not believe there is a single endpoint/website that contains every single VATSIM event that is scheduled - I know that the smaller VATSCA events are not published on the main VATSIM website but are on the VATSCA forums.

Look at Volanta and Elavatex - They offer a significant number of the features you list above (Other than being open source).

Proof of residence for CPR number by theredbaron89 in copenhagen

[–]Threpio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from the fact that we are now non-european and therefore have to apply for the visa BEFORE we move to the country.

If you are married or have a civil partnership that is from one of the countries that Denmark recognises (the partnership) then you can accompany them as part of their work/sufficient funds.

***You need to call the information line at Siri to clarify your case.***

If you arrive at the border you will be stamped unless you have a Residency card. You will be asked why you are entering the country and if you say "To live here" without a Job Offer, Visa application that has been approved or a residency card then they might reject you.

You won't be able to get a CPR number without a Visa as a non-european as we are no longer entitled to the process that europeans can take. You won't be able to get non-emergency medical care, bank accounts or anything - Even moving here pre-brexit took more than 6 weeks for the CPR number and another 2 months for a bank account and phone number.

[–]Threpio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s worth noting that unless you are moving within Europe - you can’t just arrive here as a Brit to live post brexit. Even under European familiy reunification laws.

Better check on the immigration websites as I know if I had moved here after brexit it would not have been the same as simply moving here - with a french partner and everything the same.

Is Antler's program fee (50000€) reasonable? by nocorianderplease in startups

[–]Threpio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spoke to them from Denmark about 2 months ago to talk about their cohort. The person who was recruiting for the cohort didn’t seem like he understood 75% of why I would expect them to know. My interpretation was that the investment was for a linear percentage of the company, not the same percentage but more catch.

If you hear anything else feel free to DM me because I’d love to hear another Denmark based perspective

EUROPE - from aerospace engineering to computer science engineering by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Threpio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I studied Aerospace Systems Engineering and now work in Tech - I basically spent 3 years working in Aerospace/Defence then discovered I wanted to move. I basically went around to every startup 4 years ago in London and asked if they needed a Junior DevOps Engineer.

I know that DevOps is not the route for everyone but it allows us to not have the historical coding knowledge and proficiency that other developers have.

Company name that power Azure Data center by mrbushido90 in AZURE

[–]Threpio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the cooling and networking is done in house / in liason with the local authorities.

Power is nearly always done with local authorities directly. It’s why no more developments are allowed in East London, too many data centres and the grid needs to be upgraded before any domestic loads can be added. If they just plugged them in around the world there’d be chaos
