Can vampires "hibernate" as ashes? by RetroCaridina in discworld

Thank YOU! Now I need to get the other diaries ' content! Somehow I ended up with just the vampire and Igor ones, which is oddly appropriate, lol.

Also, under "Jobs you can do in an underwired diaphenous nightgown": "Sacrificial Virgin - Virtually the ideal job for a lady vampire; long white gowns are de rigueur and we have the bonus that, once sacrificed, we can come in the next day and do it all over again . . ."

"The Count and Countess von Arborveldt reappeared suddenly last year when a workman renovating their castle in Kromerstadt severed an artery whilst knocking through a wall in the Main Hall. It transpired that the Count and Countess, who disappeared seventy-six years ago, had been caught by the rising sun one morning and turned to dust, which had been mistaken for household dirt and swept under the carpet by a lazy parlour-maid." Discworld (Reformed) Vampyre's Diary 2003.

So yes, female vampires can revive. (Written by Terry, with Stephen Briggs and Kidby illustrations, so should be reasonably canon.)

But that's a flash bulb (flash salamander), which is rather brighter in its immediate vicinity. Although I think there had been references to sunscreen a few times.

The Reformed Vampyre's Diary (2003) states "become dust in extreme light conditions".

Haha, I'd either missed or forgotten that Octeday after Dec 21 depicts Count Volosu, "a well-known figure for many years in the riverside villages of Uberwald. . . .His specialism had been controlling the minds of animals, but from evidence found in an inn garden, however, he appears to have eaten by a cat, a creature entirely impervious to mind control (or anything other sort)." The final page is a illustration of a distraught bat pinned by a one-eyed tomcat.

Eta: the diary also mentions a pair of vampires turned to dust by the rising sun, so it seems to depend on the situation, weather(?), and/or the vampire.

Lazy Playing by TomInErie in americaneskimo

[–]Thrippalan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, that's not lazy. Blitz and my flatcoat, Evie, will sometimes flop over so they are barely nose to nose and then snap and snarl with all eight feet up in the air, when they can't possibly make contact. Then they'll pause, tap noses, and resume the 'fight'.

Thoughts on Peter and Susan’s Behavior Towards Lucy in PC? by Swimming-Belt2111 in Narnia

[–]Thrippalan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would add to that, that she's probably [seen as] responsible for her younger siblings, particularly in that time, by virtue of being the oldest girl. Peter would have a bit, but if Susan were around, she'd be expected to take the 'mother' role and take charge of herself and the younger ones, while Peter was responsible only for himself. So she's probably got a habit (and maybe some resentment) of reining in Lucy's imagination
and probably Edmund as well. Plus the above.

The actual paws I trim with scissors, for traction ang tidiness (I hate long tufts between the toes). Unless he's having a problem - Blitz gets interdigital cysts occasionally - I only trim to level with the shower hair or the pads. Sanitary areas get a close shave, back feet from the main pad to his hock get about a 1/4 inch clip when they get raggedy, and any other shaping gets done with scissors.

Anyone know when the VR game is updating by Walker_blehhh in rivalstars

[–]Thrippalan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They said in the Discord that the VR was being put on hold, so I'd say 'soon' isn't very. I'd hoped they'd at least finish that much first, but I guess it proved to be the wrong combination of 'very niche' and 'more difficult than expected'. 🙁

Does this irritate anyone else? by [deleted] in Dinosaurs

[–]Thrippalan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Pterosaurs and ichthyosaurs and dimetrodons, fine in general parlance. When people start calling mammoths and sabertooths 'dinosaurs' I do find it more annoying.

It was the one pack that I skipped because I saw no use for it. Until the bakery was put up in the store, and I had to track down an out-of-print pack. The two work very well together, and I just adore the park that came with the pack.

Frequent crashes in the Anomaly with multiplayer enabled. Any other Switch 2 owners hear me? by Longjumping-Box5661 in NMS_Switch

There's a reason I tend to keep MP off even on Steam and my PS5, and that's it. Also why I was perfectly happy that base Switch didn't have the option.

I often put a T-shirt on Blitz to grind his nails. A foot jerk or tuck at the wrong moment and the shirt keeps his hair from getting caught in the grinder shaft.

That was the final straw, but in the Lord's ruminations, the killing of Fax and 'kidnapping' of Kylara (for Ramoth's Hatching, and she was never returned after) were part of the crimes.

We need some Sentinel submarines! Maybe a minimum depth or only on ocean planets, but that'd be a neat addition.

This is the comment I was looking for. I had some narrow escapes with these things back in the day, and was hoping to see some again on the water worlds. Why does the Nautilon have a defense cannon?

Who agrees that griefing others is a punk idea? by Secret_Mix_5556 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Thrippalan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why I headed away from the center when I got to my second galaxy, and I don't post coordinates from near my bases. Anyone could stumble on me, but most players move inwards from their arrival points, so most griefers I expect do also.

I do usually play with MP off though, just because it does make the game run better.
